I'm off to New York on the 17th of July till the 22nd :D
What do you think the chance of the iPad stock levels being abit better by then?
Think I'll be able to pick up either of the 16gb models?
Thanks
Jack

you will most likely be able to buy a 16GB model in new york. more chance of the Wifi only model, but perhaps the 3G too

they have been meeting demand more efficiently recently

I hope so, and it is another month away yet :D
Bought some $ at a reasonable ( well compared to the rate now anyway) and means I save nearly £90 on a 3g one :D

fyi

if you really want to be sure they have it, just call the store and reserve it ten business days before you are coming. they will send you an email when it arrives.

I live in NYC. Stock is pretty bone dry at the Apple Stores. The in store reserve list takes around 1 week. I waited on the reserve list then ended up calling all of the local Best Buy stores to find a 64GB 3G iPad. I bought it Friday. :)

Oh ok :D
That'll cost me alot to call from the uk though :(

Yeah I'm hoping that bestbuy will have some as well ;) I would have thought by July though stock might be abit better :)

Thanks guys!

I'm going the (june) 22nd till the 27th. However don't really know when I should reserve one, since they only hold them for 24 hours :s. So if it's availble too soon, i'm f-ed :p. Or maybe have a friend reserve one as well, so we double chances?

The apple store on the Upper West Side (67th st. & Broadway) has the best stock levels, because it is always the least crowded from what I've noticed. I think best bets is to get one there, because 5th ave. and soho are probably out of the question

Hmm okay thanks for the info :)
I guess I will know nearer the time :D
Anyone bought one from any ny stores recently?
Jack

I really think Best Buy is the way to go. There are a large number of stores in the NYC area. Several in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx. All of the Manhattan stores were sold out of the 64GB 3G Friday so I called a store in the Bronx and ended up traveling up to the Bronx. The train station is right on the same block so it was easy to get to. Made my purchase and jumped back on the train back downtown.

Sign onto the Best Buy website and look up the model you want. Click on "check for in-store availability." Then put in zip codes for Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens or the Bronx. You can quickly see what stores have stock. The web site seems very accurate. I called the stores that showed stock and they had them.

and when should I reserve one then? Too bad you can't just say: reserve one and pick it up at that date. At least you know when to go then:(

None in stock atm :(

I'd reserve one about 3/4 days before you go and just state that you wont be in usa till the following dates if it does come in early. Let me know how you get on :D

Will do:). Will probably reserve one with my friend's acccount as well, with 1 or 2 days in between. But that damn new iphone launch is also the 24th:p. What if they send a mail saying that I can pick it upt the 24th in the morning. NOOOOO:D

Haha so what ? Nothing wrong with abiut of queing :D
I think you have to ring up? So not sure how you would reserve with an account?
Cheers
Jack ;)

they have somewhere a page online where you can reserve your iPad and pick the store.
Just sent an email to fifth ave asking if it's possible to pick a date +-. Will probably be a no, but whatever:D . If they reply in the first place

Oh *****. They must've changed it :s . Damn this is a bummer, how the F am I supposed to get one now.
Fifthavenue@apple.com

Apparently you can ring up ;)
I'm guessing there will be someone on the phone all the time, but my best guess would be to ring when it's night time there.. As I'm pretty sure apple 5th ave is open 24h?
Cheers
Jack

Yeah always open. But again: when to call? I'd prefer a specific date when I can pick it up. I have 1 free Skype call, so I could call them. Once :p. It's very frustrating :(

When are you going again?
22nd?
I'd ring this sunday, or even monday. ( or maybe saturday, sorry that doesnt really help lol!)
If your there till the 27th that gives you 5 days to hunt for one as well as do other things ;)
Probably ring sunday or saturday to be honest, that way if they've got them in you'll be fine and if not you will probably have enough time for one to come in ;)
Explain your situation, say your coming through NY and if it comes in before the 22nd could they keep it till then, as you'll definatley pick it up then

sadly the apple store will only reserve an ipad for 1 day.

Shame :(
I know when I go in July, I'm going to ring up on the day before I go .. as hopefully stock levels will be better then, what do you guys think?
Jack

They actually replied to my email I sent yesterday;)
Got an email with reservation for 32gb wifi. Also a reply from them:

We will put your name on our priority list though the reservation is not for a specific date. You will receive an email on when the iPad will be available. Please let us know when you receive the notification email and we will do our best to hold it for you. Thank you.

No guarantees but I am happy they actually replied:p
