I love my Gen one 12.9 but was also interested in to 10.5 (probably because I love new tech and it's a form factor I haven't tried yet). I placed my order for the 10.5 and ASK. The ASK arrived today. For me it's to small. I put in on my wife's 9.7 pro and it's just not that much bigger. I know the screen size will be bigger but it's just not what i was hoping. I canceled my 10.5 and will be returning the ASK today.

12.9 just fits my needs. I guess I'll be getting the new 12.9 instead. That should save me a little on accessories.
Nice. I had my doubts about whether or not the 10.5 would be the sweet spot. I want to see one side-by-side with a 12.9 for comparison. The keyboard on the 12.9 is so spacious it feels like first-class on a plane... not that I would know what that's like.

I like the idea of the 12.9" model, but it's just too big for what I usually use my iPad for and too heavy for my comfort. This news is disappointing, but expected. I'll stick to my 10.5" pre-order. For me it's the perfect size. If I was using it for heavy work, I would definitely get the 12.9. But that's just too close in size to my MacBook.

The 12.9 probably will still look significantly bigger than the 10.5.

Serenity Caldwell posted some images to show the difference in physical size:

Obviously the screen to bezel ratio is higher on the 10.5 though. But still large difference I'd say.

I wonder how many people really will use the split with high frequency today. I use it very occasionally since I focus on one task at a time.

Seriously?! That doesn't look right, but if it is taken from the actual dimensions then must be. Which makes me think about 11.7 (+ or -) being the sweet spot size-wise. My 11" MBA is extremely portable and having an iPad Pro similar in size could be it.

Yup. Kind of crazy - but the dimensions do show the 10.5 is only a few mm wider and taller than the 9.7. Not bad considering the screen has 20% more surface area.

Would be really cool to see ~12" like you mentioned with a much tighter bezel/body as well.

No more slide in from the side.

You can pull apps from the dock, from the home screen, and from spot light from what I've found so far.

I've been looking for an explanation of how to pull apps from home screen for multitasking but all the videos and articles I found don't seem to mention it specifically. Any way you could explain or link me to something that explains? I'd appreciate it.

Tap and drag while double pressing the home button. Drag it to the app you want it next to and release when it opens up and shows the app off in the speparte window.

I have Microsoft Excel and Word installed on my iPhone...
Same. And have created full blown documents in Office for iOS on both my iPhone 7 Plus and iPad Pro. Microsoft is actually quite good at developing for iOS. The features aren't 100% all there yet, but it's coming slowly but surely. OneNote + Apple Pencil is a thing of beauty.

Thanks. I'm not a developer so I don't have the beta. I was just wondering. But seems like they could have thought of something better. I would have preferred sliding the first open app to the side revealing the home screen, tapping the second app's icon which would open it next to the first app. Or something like that.

I'm also wondering do all the multitouch gestures work the same? Four fingers slide up still goes to app switcher? That's 3 different ways to get to app switcher. I guess doesn't hurt.

Yup, all the gestures still work. It's an early beta so I've found it wonky at times.

The ability to drag icons and apps feels quite powerful. I'm still amazed at all the possibilities. Really makes multitasking much easier to jump in and out of once you get used to it.

I wonder if the 10.5" shows Bookmarks Bar like the 12.9" or doesn't have it like the 9.7" on Safari? I use the Bar a lot! Too bad Chrome never has it.

Okay, attached is a screenshot from 9-to-5 Mac's hands on that shows that it is indeed the 9.7" split, but with some more room.

How do I feel? We'll the 12.9" was just not for me though I appreciate it so my only option was the 9.7". This is a solid upgrade from the 9.7". Whether it's an upgrade to the 12.9" is up to the user. I'm really excited for it.

I am personally very relived they didn't just use the iPad Pro 12.9" res at 10.5" I know that I'm probably in the minority, but in the brief 1.5 weeks I used a Mini I just couldn't get used to it. Text was too small unless I held it close to my face (which was passable with the mini's size, but ridiculous with this) and targets were annoyingly small. I am a 23 year old withe 20/20 vision with glasses. I wanted the current iPad, but with more room and that's exactly what this is.

I would have liked the full side-by-side iPad experience, but this is a compromise I happily make for the size.

I think my upgrades this year will be a 12.9 iPad Pro for home and then considering the 9.7 iPad Pro for mobility. Or, I might end up looking at a 10.5 for mobility. But I really do like the 9.7 iPad Pro and it's kind of unfortunate they discontinued it already just over a year.

Have to say, I agree with you. I was kind of expecting the 12.9's resolution on the 10.5 but had a hard time seeing how it would work. Imagine in split screen all the apps looking like iPad mini size touch targets, and then single app in full screen growing to ~9.7" touch targets and UI. I think this was the right move.

I'm kind of happy I have my 9.7, I might keep it to compliment a new 12.9. But if I was in the market for a 9.7, I think the 10.5 is a no brainer. Few mm bigger on each side, still the crazy 6.1mm thinness, yet 20% larger screen. And of course the new specs.

The 120 HZ refresh rate with Promotion, six core CPU/ 12 Core GPU, 4 GB Ram, wider color gamut, Tru-Tone, A10X, 600 Nits of brightness, 40% reduction in bezels, all with ten hours of battery life. This iPad sells itself.

I’m trying to decide between a potential fist gen 12.9 (~$300 savings) and second gen 12.9. Listing all the specs like that is not helping, lol.

Depends upon the model (and assuming it is new). 32GB 1st gen? meh. 128GB, *I* would be all over it. That's a great savings on an iPad that is still a beast.

Lol I get it. It really isn't an easy decision. I'm very curious to see them both in store, and see how the 10.5 feels (I'm sure it'll feel amazing for a very portable iPad). Right now I'm absolutely loving the iOS 11 changes (using the 9.7) and feel like complimenting it with a 12.9 would be ideal.

How is the beta working for you so far on the 9.7? Think it would be okay to use on my 10.5 next week?

I'm going to assume the 12.9" won't have it as it has a much larger on screen keyboard with a number row. Tried out the key flicking on my 9.7, works nicely.

Thank god. I despise the location of the emoji button on the 12.9 keyboard!

if you can still get one app as iPad in the 80/20 I think I can live with it.
You get similar on the mini. It just sucks :)
