I have a 10.5 iPad Pro which I bought in July 2017 so it’s over 2.5 years old now and it’s still working as well as the day I bought it. I’ve not had any of the white spot issues.

I do have a slight bend near the smart connector but it doesn’t effect the function of the device at all. It’s been that way for about 2 years. I have it connected to the Smart Keyboard all the time so most of the time I forget it’s even there. I had Apple care plus and could have had it replaced but I didn’t bother because as I said it doesn’t effect usage and the way I use it I can’t even see it. I didn’t think it was worth the hassle of going through the process of getting a replacement when I could’ve ended up with a worse unit, I.e one with the white spot Problem.

I think even if I was buying a new iPad today and I was deciding between the iPad Pro 2017 and the iPad Air 3 I’d still get the iPad Pro 2017. I have an iPad mini 5th gen with the same chip as the iPad Air 3 and my iPad Pro 10.5 is just as fast, smooth and responsive as my iPad mini.

I've had my 10.5" since December of 2017 and no white spots at all. Device still looks brand new and functions just as fast and as well as it did from day 1. Every product will have a fault in there somehow. It happens when things are manufactured. No company has ever had a flawless launch of products. Samsung has been through their share of faulty products just like Apple and LG and plenty more. Just because there are reports of a few faults doesnt mean that the entire population of product that has been distributed will have that problem. It is unfortunate that some have had the issue, but like I said, it doesnt mean that EVERYONE will have that issue. Theres no need to make it seem like its something as drastic as the battery incident that Samsung has to deal with for the Note7

Like, really? 30% of iPad owners in this thread is just a few? Have you seen how many people reported problems with the iPads overall? It's not just a few faults, it's a lot of recent problems! Just have a look at a few:

Not surprising for a forum like this - where people post issues they are having. See the same thing with other devices and other forums. We have multiple iPads in my broader family and none of them are having these issues; from that I take that no iPads are having problems. You can't extrapolate to the general from these samplings in this environment.

And all my friends and me have various problems with the iPad. So let's start from that we can't extrapolate your personal family experience to the whole world.

I will leave it at that - done - as there is no way I will come to your view on this nor will you come to mine.

Neither can we extrapolate you and your friends' experience to the whole world.

Simply put, we really have no way of knowing how prevalent these issues are with the small sample sizes we have knowledge of or access to.

I believe Apple sells around 30-50 million iPads each year. Even if 10,000 people had an issue, that's a drop in the bucket compared to the entire installed base.

Haha, where does the number 10,000 come from? I would say it's more like 10 million.

I think people should stop making statistics in either direction. The white spot issue could concert millions of ipads or not. Nobody can tell here. And those who say it's a small minority have no more data than the others... There maybe be many more white spot ipads than galaxy note 7 exploding, but this is not an issue that requires a recall of the product so Apple can get away with it... Personally I have the issue and it's annoying. Dark mode helps but until google stops treating ipads like second class citizens to give Android an advantage and implements dark mode in all its apps there are still too many apps that make me hate this screen...

Note, my point with the 10,000 mentioned is that it's still a small sample size compared to the entire user base. Obviously, I have no idea how many are actually affected although my Pro 10.5 seems fine.

I actually think this is pretty likely - more iPads affected by bright spot issue and unresponsiveness than Note 7s with exploding batteries. The difference is it's not a life and death thing.

I don't think Apple's gonna do anything to address these issues short of a class action lawsuit or major news article like the iPhone performance slowdown related to low battery health.

What? I don't understand, who says it's 10,000? I still think it's more like 10 million.
My iPad doesn't feel fine at all. And it's a warranty replacement by the way.

I (still) hope they will. And yeah, I think we need a journalist who has a problem with the iPad to make a strong lawsuit (like it happened with the butterfly keyboard).

Unfortunately I don't think it will ever happen. Keyboard issues can make a mac unusable. The white spot just makes the ipad ugly, not unsable.

More people will complain than praise. That's my take on it. Doesnt make a difference to me. There will always be something people are not happy with and that's fine. Dont buy the product and move on

Myself and two family members each have - and love - the 10.5 inch iPad Pro.

It's a great piece of kit that does not feel dated at all in the hand or in use.

I have two issues: (i) when charging with a non-apple charger the screen becomes unresponsive and (ii) when using a tempered glass screen protector the touch screen becomes gradually less responsive until replaced.

The former issue seems to be a problem with the iPad (the chargers work fine on other iOS devices) and the latter seems to be because the thickness of tempered glass means it's at the margins of what the touch screen can handle.

Would I get it again? Absolutely.

I'm not talking just about white spot, I'm talking about screen unresponsiveness, light bleeding and bending. This is crazy how many issues modern iPads have.

That's how unresponsiveness starts, unfortunately you face a well-known disease of all modern iPads. Just have a look:
https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...-complain-of-screen-stuttering-issues.2176245

I had the same problem, started with the charger (Apple genuine), then iPad started to become unresponsive every so often during games, office documents, etc. Even when not connected to charger. Then I replaced it with the warranty. And then the replacement started to do the same all the time!

Would I get it again? Unless Apple fixes this global issue - never. Why pay money to greedy salesmen that pay for their ignorance from your pocket?

I’m on-line (Hold) with Apple as Im [trying] to type this... 2 months out of warranty, white spot and difficult to use touch responsiveness. If I went ahead with the repair, they want to charge me ¥53,680! That’s $500usd! Half the cost of it new after a bit more than a year, and I’m still making payments too. Not sure if the problems will worsen, and make this basically unusable. Apple rep. Came back on, checking with the higher ups. Will find out more later.

They are going to make me visit the city Apple Store in person to try and see if Maybe the price can be lowered. Just what I need to hear, with coronavirus.

Just to pitch in, I've had mine for a year now. I did my research before buying the iPad and between the 10,5 inch, 11 inch and iPad Air 3 I went for the 10,5 inch as it seemed to be exactly like the OP said - the sweet spot of features, capability and price. I have not had any regrets. The ony "issue" is that it came with 95% battery out of the box, but other than that it's great. I think with iPadOS 14 it will be an even better device. I use it without a screen protector, it's in a case all of the time (cheap one bough off eBay, I need it as I use the iPad for work mostly so I need something to keep it sitting upright while I type) and I use the bluetooth Magic Keyboard with it. It's a great combination for me and the iPad has not had any problems whatsoever. I use it quite a bit, too. It's not like the iPad sits on the table untouched. Also, I take it with me to work often, so it spent a lot of time in my backpack. No issues with anything so far.

ProMotion is great, but I feel like memory management could be better so here's hoping for iPadOS 14.

If you’re still making payments on it, why didn’t you get AC+ with it or coverage via your carrier (Docomo/Softbank/AU) if that’s how you bought it.
Hope you can get it replaced.

Original topic: I had touch issues with my 2nd gen. 12.9 iPP (same gen. as 10.5”). Even after getting it replaced by Apple it would eventually happen again. I think they replaced mine 2 or 3 times (under AC+). I eventually sold it after getting it replaced the last time and picked up the 3rd gen. 12.9 (2018) iPP. I haven’t had any touch issues with it so far.
