Why? It's only the size of an A4 paper
It just is. Thumb typing in portrait on the 12.9 is awful. Screen is too top heavy in portrait mode. Multitasking on the iPad Pro is really only realistic in landscape mode. To me the 12.9 is a landscape tablet, and if it's in landscape I want the keyboard on it. Of all the times I used a 12.9" iPad Pro, not once did I ever want to use it off of the keyboard unless I was signing something with the pencil.

Again, YMMV. I know some don't agree or have different use cases. But there's a reason Apple went with the proportions it did for the first iPad. Those have mostly stayed constant.

You are never going to sit the tablet down on a desk or in your lap and you are never going to web surf or write an e-mail? Feels very dogmatic and missing the point of the iPad, but of course if you don't plan on using a keyboard, you don't. What can I say?

Anyway, the iPad Pro 12.9 is an awkward tablet for many people, which pushes it towards landscape/keyboard usage on a lap/desk. Again, YMMV.

Of course I'll write some emails and sure I'll surf the web, but I think having a keyboard doesn't make sense in my case and I honestly don't want it. Maybe in the future I'll get a mechanical one and a desk stand for more serious editing tasks, we'll see.

I got it to use it for what it is, a tablet. Maybe I'll change my mind, it may be.

I had the 10.5 with the smart keyboard from Apple, it was nice but I have the pro now and I dont miss the keyboard. I didnt use it as much as I thought I would when I bought it so when I upgraded I decided to just go with the pencil. I have a Logitech stand alone keyboard I can use if needed but mostly I use it as a tablet and have a Macbook when I need a laptop.

I’m a touch typist on Keyboard. If you force yourself and type a lot, you can really function quite well on the display keyboard you just have to unlearn resting your fingers on the display. I wouldn’t want to type for hours like that, but answering an email here and there, typing notes and using the type ahead word suggestions you can really get by.

Of course it depends on ones purpose of usage for the device. I have a blue tooth keyboard for when I have typing tasks that take most of the day. And, I can use that keyboard for my Mac Mini, or any other blue tooth device in the house.

A single use keyboard, however, for 1/3 of the price of the iPad, doesn’t make much since for me.

same here, I have a keyboard that’s sync to my iPad, iPhone and has one more slot. All I have to do is turn the wheel to the one I want.
