What's more likely with the 12.9 inch iPad Pro?

joe I recommend buying now. If you need the screen real estate, get the 12.9. Who knows when there will be a significant update to this form factor. Also, tbh, nobody uses so large atablet to take pictues... too awkward. Enjoy it if you have the funds now to pay for it.

I just thought the word "abandoned" is a little too harsh, if it was truly as such, shops won't display them for a start

"Display" is a strong word. Good luck finding the 256GB version. Shops are showcasing the (stupid) 32GB version and nobody bites. Same with the new (non pro) iPad. Various (desperate?) but always small discounts for the models nobody wants but the same premium price for the top models, even after months/years after their launch. Typical Apple.

Nevertheless, people should never trust companies on improving something. Not just Apple but others too. Nobody knows what they will bring and how they perceive as improvement differs from many customers' view. They might only bring a smaller iPad, they might remove the bezel making it difficult to hold, they might remove the home button, they might remove the headphone jack, etc.

Let's not even talk about the 256GB version, there are similar shortages even for the 128GB and 32GB versions! I spoke to many shops, all reported similar shortages that happened months ago, with no news on any new shipment from Apple.

As for the 2nd hand market, 32GB versions are plenty while the others require a bit more luck or outright more cash. Interested sellers should use this chance before it is too late

And yes, you will never know what "brave" moves they can pull; that's the bad thing about upgrades ;)

I just noticed today that the Apple store is showing availability of the 12.9 pro as 2-3 weeks. I've tried various configurations (wifi only, cellular, gold, silver etc) and availability doesn't change. So I've hedged my vote on a new 12.9 Pro before WWDC.
I agree the date stopped moving up, its now sitting at May 23rd, that means a May event is possible

In my North Texas area, all these weeks you guys have been saying the 12.9" was not available in your area for weeks out, my Fort Worth Apple Store said available for pickup today. Until I checked (just to keep current) today and Yep, availability for in store pickup for the 12.9" is May 23. No matter the color or options, all say May 23. Now the 9.7" ipad pro is available for pickup in store or ship to me today.

Apple Singapore's website still showing 2 to 3 weeks for ship option, no exact dates (we don't have pickup options as we don't have Apple Stores, we have Apple Authorised Resellers setting up their shops instead. And I spoke to them already, no one can confirm the next shipment either)

Apple Japan showing 2 to 3 weeks for ship option, tomorrow for most stores for pickup option

Long-time reader, first-time poster.

With the lack of hard facts, I'm throwing my two cents in.

My feelings are sooner not later. Apple is lacking in a compelling up to date product for the high school graduation and rapidly approaching back to school/college season. Many people buy in spring or early summer to get the new equipment up and running. I found the last Mac Book Pro update uninspiring and didn’t bite. What else do they have for this market?

A delay until fall means giving Microsoft a large foot into one of their major markets. Even June is a bit late, and they will loose many of this year's crop of future Apple users.

So if the 12.9 iPad Pro is ready, they won’t delay even a week longer than they have to.

Or am I putting too much importance on the education market for Apple?

The shipping delays seem to suggest an update soon.

I could see 12.9inch updated to feature parity with 9.7inch (gaining True Tone display and better cameras on the front and back) without an event, like the new iPad updates.

Then the new premium bezel-less iPad later (October?) so as not to spoil the bezel-free form factor reveal for next iPhone. That one will probably be 10.5inch or so on the diagonal, with a higher resolution.

Either way I'm holding off for now as while I do want to invest in one, I'm not made of money and I'd be annoyed if I got one now and it was updated at any point this year. I'm also really stuck about the sizes still! :D

Total agree that it does not need a major event. The smaller model is good for the Holiday seaseon.

If they only release a 12.9" device and not a updated 10.5" (or 9.7") device, I'll be looking at other manufacturers... Personally I don't want a 12"+ device as I already have a variety of laptops. A 10.5" device would be perfect.

Not to spill your beans here, but the shipping delays have been going on for two months now. Being in the market for an iPP2 myself ... I spilled your beans. Sorry :/

What other relevant tablet manufacturers would you be looking at? Asking for a friend.

I'm really struggling to decide which iPad Pro to get. The fragmentation of Apple's line up and feature sets along with current whisperings is making it very difficult.

I'm leaning towards 12.9inch with a smart cover + Magic Keyboard (not sure about the Keyboard Cover really) + Pencil for handwritten notes/scribbles. Pros would be full Safari site views in Split View and generally more screen space for productivity, cons would be slight lack of portability but no different to taking my 15 inch MBP around!

HOWEVER:
- No True Tone display like 9.7 inch model
- Cameras vastly inferior to 9.7 inch model

I can't quite understand why the 12.9 inch model was not updated when the 9.7 inch model was released. The lack of feature parity is very annoying. I am worried if I purchase and invest in the 12.9 inch model now (and all its accessories), I will regret it when they add True Tone and improve the cameras.

I also worry they will release a 2nd gen Pencil. I know this is always the way with Apple products but it seems particularly acute with the iPads right now with all the talk of a new design, etc.

Does anyone have any advice? Is it possible the iPad 12.9 will be updated before WWDC, or more likely not updated until later in the year?
Why can't you understand why they wouldn't release a second generation $800 iPad 6 months after releasing the first generation? I understand the frustration with feature parity.
As for a second gen pencil, it needs a second iteration ( is not perfect as it stands today).

Wait really how? Is ther news articles pointing to it? I wasn't aware of anything being confirmed, but I'm confused we are getting all these iPhone 8 leaks but nothing on the new iPads

Sorry i was just joking... :) If you look at the post i was replying too it makes sense

the latest ipad is good for middle school or low budget audience.

They will be coming up with a new pro aiming at college and buyers with higher requirements. This will come up by June to allow students to buy/get accustomed to by September.

The new ipad will be a true PC replacement because it will also come with iOS11 which would offer a real boost in productivity as ios9 did.

In regards to hardware we expect:
- 10.5 in bezelless screen (the smallest screen to allow a comfortable reading experience of pdfs without the need for zoom or panning)
- true tone
- 4 gb of ram
- screen ppi similar to ipad mini 4 and resolution similar to ipad pro 12.9
- waterproof (possibly)
- dual camera (almost certain) with longer distance between cameras to maximize depth perception
- new smaller pencil with extra functions (rotate left or right to get left or right click mouse functions)

Dammit I was hopeful...for the billionth time. Apple gonna screw us all and just wait till fall.

We are all hopeful...which is why we want to believe in literally anything anyone says regardless of fact...

i love new ipad toys! thats why longer time between updates sucks, not only with not having new tech, but new rumors and leaks and all that good stuff that comes with new devices

I just stopped by the Valley Fair store in Santa Clara, California. They had all models in stock. I was almost tempted to buy a 12.9.

EDIT my store has it in stock after checking wonderful now to just somehow avoid the temptation.

*wonders if I should tell people my current experiences with my iPad Pro in my thread*

*whistles uncomfortably*

Oh, come on, keep these posts going! If Apple wont release any factual announcements about an event or info on an updated ipad pro, we can at least read WAGs that are stated as facts, to keep our excitement going!
