Hey man! Good luck with your next attempts, hope you get one thats decent enough for your needs.

I use an i1display colorimeter with a software called displaycal. you just get the ipad with a flat white background, put the colorimeter on top of it and it will measure the exact brightness of that particular area. You do that for the whole screen and you end up with a map showing beyond doubt which areas are darker. Its pretty good. Helped me confirm how near perfect my old 10.5 was.

Cheers for the sentiment, dude

I went for that third shot at an 11”, and it’s the best display by far of my three attempts. It’s not perfect, but not far off it - i.e. a keeper! It passed the test whereby my heart didn’t sink the minute I booted it up!

I use my iPad principally for reading lots and lots of fiction, so it’s real important that my eye doesn’t get distracted as I scan the page. It kinda means I have a higher standard, as I need as pure, as even, a white as possible. I sink about six novels a month!

Now here’s hoping no dodgy bending happens!

I checked out your colorimeter online: what a neat, neat device - and a great investment! The results it produces are fascinating!

Thanks again!

Just a heads up for everyone who is affected by the uneven brightness and dark parts in the ipad pros screen:

Week 04 2019 batches are pretty damn good.

Ive tested 2 of each week starting from week 1 and Id like to believe its not a coincidence that both week 4 were good while others still showed the same issues.

Hopefully they fixed the entire production line for good, but you never know if theyll keep it up for next batches. If anyone is one the fence now might be a good time.

Continuing with my method to test the brightness using a colorimeter, up until week 3 2019 I was getting around 15% difference between left and right. With week 4 I got 5% difference which is pretty acceptable and should be the standard. The screen finally feels uniform to my eyes.

I opened around 12 ipads in total. I would go to the store buy 2 every 1-2 weeks, test, check the production date and return. It paid off finally.

This is for the 12.9 space grey 64gb wifi if anyone is wondering.

Hope it helps.

Thanks for your helpful survey. It tells me never to pursue Apple's first release =_=.

For those who are perturbed due to iPad Pro (2018) uneven back-light,
I have recently found a way to alleviate screen shadow on the corner. The method is simple: use your thumb to press the corner (actually there is an offset to the corner). Yes, it's ridiculous! Before you try, read the following three notices!

Under what circumstances should this method work: rotate your iPad and view the shadow from different angles, if the brightness of the shadow varies obviously compared to the other three corners, this method, in my opinion, should work.
Where to press: for me, my screen shadow is on the top right of the corner, so I pressed the area which is slightly down left to the corner.
How much force to press: with the force exactly to cause the LCD of your iPad Pro begins to change color, or there are ripples appear on your display. Don't press the corner so hard in case your display gets broken. Remember your display is fragile!

I know it sounds ridiculous. The first time I pressed the corner and saw the shadow faded out a bit, I thought it's due to my psychological effect. However, after few days, I tried it again, and found that the brightness of the shadow didn't change obviously when I viewed it from different angles, I confirmed this method really worked.
So how could this ridiculous method work? Because in my case, the screen shadow is caused by the unevenness of LCD's light guide plate. Light guide plate is like a translucent paper lies behind liquid crystal layer. It scatters light of the LED lights hidden in the edge of the display to make the screen brightness even. If light guide plate doesn't lie flat, the bumpness of it would affect the screen brightness. Thus, the purpose to press the corner is to make the translucent paper lie flat.

However, there are more reasons causing screen shadow. If you have tried this method several times but it doesn't work. Please stop. Remember your screen is fragile!
PS: I really hope this method works for you.

I don’t think I have a uneven backlight issue on my iPad Pro 11”

I’ve owned 3 so far. And my current iPad is perfect to my eyes. I wish other IPS panels were this perfect. You can go buy a $900 dollar G-Sync gaming IPS display with horrible IPS glow, and light bleed issues. But it is normal for IPS to have these issues lol, And there all like that too. And here the Apple iPads have a IPS panel with none of these issues.

I think that considering these iPads use a IPS panel, they are pretty all darn perfect for the average person.

Hi
Same issue here.
And i am from germany as well
Received my pro 11 inch 3 Hours ago.

Everything fine so far, exzept...
The screen is very uniform, when you look at a static picture like the Apple menues or Web Pages.
But if you scroll through forums like this one, you See a very slight dse Effekt (Dirty Screen effect)
It Looks as if the Display is a very slight bit dirty or resp. there is a horizontal Part being a tiny Bit brighter.
Unseeable without fast scrolling and also Never To be captured in a Photo.

I am insecure what to do. As i am a hypersensitive person when it comes to my technic devices, i think wohnt ever geht a Perfect one...

Any thoughts from your side?

What's your production week? You can check here: https://sndeep.info/en

I am from germany, too. And I received a new 11inch Pro yesterday from Amazon. Today, I send it back!
Very bad "shadowing" at the right side of the screen, very notivable when browsing or even in the Settings App (white backgrounds). It was production week 9/2019. So are the screen actually getting worse...?

Mine is far from very Bad.
Mine is from week 7.
Still considering if i will Test another one.
once there is a Fingerprint on the screen, it is much more Visible.

Stop
There is one corner with a darker Spot as well. Hate it.... it is always the same...

Are the 12.9's any better than the 11's for this?

I've gone through 2 11's both with a slightly darker right hand side (in portrait) and darker corners, my wife's has it (doesn't bother her), and every display unit I've looked at has it. Can't find a 12.9 on display anywhere though.

Unfortunately that’s the way it is with LCD screens. You’ll never find a perfect uniform one....

Read somewhere that it Might be caused by the folio Cover. Has anyone testend the effect of the folio?

Thank you. This is right though. You’ve gotta strike that perfect balance. These are ips panels, so I feel fortunate there’s no noticeable light bleed in the corners. And my corners look pretty uniform to me. I don’t see any serious issues to look for another unit. I’d say my panel is more than acceptable.
[doublepost=1555203625][/doublepost]Im just not seeing a problem with the displays. The corners look very uniform to me on mine. Are some units really that bad?

I suggest another, alternative solution:

Just use the iPad and enjoy it. It’s a good deal more fun than micro-analysis of LCD panels.

You are right. Thanks for your advice.
The sensitivity of mine brings me more trouble than others, however more inspiration as well. I'm trying to get used to it.

Believe me, I do understand how you feel. I’m no different in being overly conscious of any perceived damage to anything I own, most especially an expensive device like an iPad. Heck, I’ve been like this all my life. As a kid I didn’t even want my brothers touching my Transformers because of the risk they would damage them LOL!

As much as I always want things to stay as perfect as possible, I also ask myself if I’ll allow this OCD interfere with my use and enjoyment of that device. Everything we use will show signs of use, especially phones and tablets, which very often are literal extensions of ourselves and everything we do, therefore they’ll be exposed to everyday wear and accidents. As expensive and exquisite as they look, a new iPad is meant to be used everywhere. I don’t even use screen protectors. Why? Because I want to fully enjoy that nice Retina display. And I also don’t like how the Apple Pencil feels with a screen protector on. Despite that, my iPad screens have never scratched.

You spent a lot of money on the iPad, so you deserve to enjoy it to its maximum. It will probably be replaced in several years anyway, so don’t torture yourself and have fun with what is an extremely capable and durable device. :)

Exactly right!

Some people can even keep devices looking just like a brand new one with use too. But, I think people are overthinking this whole uneven light, and shadows thing.

I simply enjoy my iPad, nothing about it bother me or triggers a random OCD lol. “NEVER”

I just use it, and I do not worry about it. And it still looks brand new and fresh!

Hello. My 5 cents. Years ago, I bought an Air 2. Forts one had a screen so bad the middle part was ultra bright and the edges dark as night. Returned it. The second one: the opposite plus the colors were off the chart. Returned it. The third one seemed OK but to some of my friends, it was as defective as the other two. Anyway I kept it. But now I understand one thong: after watching two very defective screens when I saw the third one, my brain told me it was fine. But actually it has always had the same defect but less pronounced. I understand LCD screens are not perfect but I also understand that Apple has so much worked us to believe that the quality of their products was much much higher than those of the competition that any customer is expecting this degree of perfection. So I blame Apple but in the meantime, I could not have another brand.

I have JUST unboxed my ipad pro 11 inch and it seems that I have a dark shadow in the middle left side of the screen. Now since I live in Iran and there is no apple store or apple care, I cant return it or ask for a refund
Now my question is: is it going to get worse or not?

People really need to understand that this has been an issue in almost every generation of iPads ever since the retina screens were included. You have to lower your expectations. It’ll be extremely unlikely to find one that doesn’t have this issue.
