That is such a fanboy reaction it isn't even funny. Thats basicly giving them a freepass for making covers/cases $100. But its ok cause ITS APPLE!
And saying that no one is forcing you so you can´t complain is also so flawed. What if your country decided to charge double the taxes for all people owning an Apple device? You DONT have to live there, you can move. So it is ok right?

The fact I have to pay $22 more for a smart cover that is essentially the same is just nonsense.

Actually it makes perfect sense for their profit and for consumer options. No one is forcing you to use either one. Owning apple products isn't cheap. You want cheap crap, get Microsoft products or android phones. Apples a premium brand. And it costs money. Or wait for third party options.

Nonsense again. Obviously it makes sense for Apple's profit. But for consumer options? I would think that consumers would prefer the choice to have the previous option that's NOT $40 more. Or have the current option without again, paying $40 more. No one said Apple products were cheap, and I never asked for your purchase advice. I'm a very successful man, and can afford what I want, but that doesn't mean that I cannot point out, or discuss my frustrations with my favorite company. My point was that Apple took a choice away, and replaced that option with another option that is both $40 more, and silicone instead of the original leather.

To get back to the original topic, here's my last complaint hehe (I promise). Yesterday while watching some videos in bed, I found that (like the OP) the volume buttons are pretty hard to access, when the case is folded on the iPad's back. I tried to take a few pics to show the issue, but when you rest your fingers on the button it's not optimal. I know all these posts are picky and on the edge of OCD, but I must say I've never had an Apple accessory got me writing in a topic and post pics before. Since I need a cover to keep the iPP protected, I'm keeping it, however it's far from feeling Apple certified.

To be fair to Apple on this particular point, it is kind of the same with the Air / Air 2 Smartcover. I can't confirm whether it is worse with the Pro as I don't have it yet (and reading this thread I'm not sure I'll get a Smart Cover for it), but if I look at the Smart Cover on my Air when it is folded on the back, it looks very much like your picture (whereas it doesn't have the issue shown by the pictures posted here of the Pro Smartcase being too wide when it is on top of the screen).

Yeah, I just read this in another post. Very disappointing. I will buy a non original one, I am not going to give my money to them for what sounds to me like a scam.

Do you know where you can buy a non-Apple Smart Cover? I've never seen one but I'm definitely interested.

There seems to be much discrepancy between the item title, pictures, and description. Title says leather, description says synthetic leather as shows the picture. Title says "Cover Case" like every other listing that has a cover and a case, but the picture only shows a cover.

Would love to find a proper listening for a 9.7 iPP magnetic cover ~only~. Non leather. Haven't found one yet :-(

image.jpeg image.jpeg To everyone, I find a way to solve this!!
Just need to keep pushing the cover to left while it fold back, then I can push the damn volume buttons.

To my mind, the debacle of this ill-fitting cover from Apple only shows that the iPad Pro is designed to be used with an external keyboard. If you don't use one, then don't buy this iPad; get the Air 2 instead.

However, I think the iPad Pro is a mistake. Anyone who gets it should be buying a laptop instead, save those few who draw. The iPad should not be used with an external keyboard. In making it a focus, Apple is detracting from the purity of the iPad and degrading it in the process.

What Apple should be doing is turning the iPad into a powerful computer by designing an operating system that takes advantage of the screen space and giving it a proper file system. At the moment, it is so much worse than it ought to be, which is ridiculous, because it has more than enough power to become a true complement to a desktop or laptop.

Just because Apple made a keyboard for it, doesn't mean everyone has to get one. I'm happily using my 12.9 iPad Pro without the Smart Keyboard. The 9.7 iPP can be a good regular upgrade for people with iPad 4 or earlier.

It's interesting how you think an optional keyboard detracts from the "purity of iPad," but you want it to have a proper file system. Some might argue that a file system detracts from the purity. It all depends on what one thinks is the core of the iPad.

I really like them, i love you can make very nice colors combo between ipad color with cover and case

Will the pro fit in the original air smartcase? I may go that route until something better comes out.

I'd say it might fit but not very tightly as the pro is not as thick as the original Air. Also a number of cutouts will be at the wrong place or missing (speakers have been added, the lock switch has been removed, etc). And lastly Apple has said the magnets polarisation has changed and therefore the case will not automatically unlock your Pro when you open it.

Probably OK as a very short term work-around, but it will quickly become annoying.

True and there is also the color display sensors too that will be covered. I'll just hold off and keep the air until decent 3rd party cases come out.

Oh

I actually like it a lot better than I anticipated I would. My only quibble is the weight of it, but I really like the feel of the keys, and the tactile feedback of it. I actually love that the keys are close together because I have small hands. For whatever reason, it suits the way I type very well. I actually make less errors on this than on a normal size keyboard - go figure!

I decided to order one and try it, and I expected to not like it, but I am keeping it definitely.

At least the smart cover function works, unlike all the current non Apple brand options.

I am curious of one thing actually...

Who here wrote Apple (http://www.apple.com/feedback/ ) about this rather than hoping that they read here and do something about it ?

Or am I the only one who wrote them about the low quality of the case and the imperfect fit.

This topic served as a mean to compare and validate with others if the issue was the same for everyone. I do intend to write to Apple, thank you for sharing this link.

I came here to create this thread and saw that others had the same issue. It's not that it's just a bit bigger, the 'hinge' part is also a bit flappier which means the smart cover slides around more easily.

If I gave this to someone, they'd think it was a knock-off because of how it looks too big and the fact that it's flimsy.

- Leather option replaced with Plastic
- Increased Prices with lesser materials
- Single case split into two separate purchases
- Changed magnet position to make identical Air cover incompatible
- intentional design flaw remedied by an unnecessary back shell
- iPad Accessories no longer covered by iPad AppleCare+

This is what happens when the Accountants have more power than the Designers and Engineers.

Seems this is all due to the inclusion of a keyboard option. Apple wouldn't dare have an $80 smart case look and feel nicer than their $150 keyboard. So plastic it is. The two piece design again is due to the keyboard option.

Accessory coverage? They really have no excuse.

Improvement for me is choice. If you are looking for the cheapest options, android has far better choice for you.

To be fair, there is no longer a stand alone Smart Cover. That is less choice for those who prefer that setup.

Yikes! From reading this thread it seems like I would be better off using my apple silicone back cover with a glass screen protector then to add the Smart Cover. I suppose that's going to be the plan unless Apple fixes this design. What a shame because I really liked the mint/green cases mixed.

???? If you have the back case, then the smart cover works perfectly with it.
