So with the new iPad Pro's (2018) being complete beast when it comes to power, what new software features would you like to see in IOS 13? Do you think IOS 13 will make the iPad Pro more capable?

With WWDC around 3 months away i thought it was fun to speculate about what features the iPad Pro might get. Mark Gurman from Bloomberg did say that Apple are working on an updated Files app, tabs in apps (like in MacOS), same app side by side, some new Apple Pencil stuff and the one that stands out the most for me is the home screen redesign which is said to be iPad focused. Aside from these features would you like to see anything else?

Here is my personal list:

More Pro apps like Final Cut Pro X for iPad Pro
Home screen redesign that makes the iPad Pro look less like iPhone
gestures for the Apple Pencil
Dark Mode
Updated look to IOS

The iPad Pro is a great device but in order to make use of its power the software needs to get better, lets hope that happens in IOS 13 :)

I don't know if it would be more down to the app developers, but split screening the same app would be highly useful in apps like Excel for me, and it will never happen, but mouse support would be great, even if they only integrated into an app and not the whole OS.

I'm also not a big fan of the swiping up gesture to close an app and bring up the multitasking.

The swiping up drives me nuts! I can never seem to get it just right to where it brings up the apps for me to close them. I’ve actually thought about asking what the heck I’m doing wrong!

I think that’s what is rumoured to be happening in iOS 13, it’s rumoured that the iPad is getting a big update. It will be interesting to see just how big this update is going to be.

Don't get me wrong I love my iPad, but i'd love nothing more than it to get something that makes it more than just a larger screened iPhone.

I wonder what they will do with the rumoured home screen redesign, that will be interesting to see.

More Pro apps like Final Cut Pro X for iPad Pro. Microsoft office to make IOS version on same par as Mac OS X.
Home screen redesign that allows more apps in the dock.
Opening up same app in multiple workspaces
Making Safari more powerful e.g. download files.
Allowing external hard drives to be connected to iPad and Files system.
Multiple tabs within apps, though already happens in PDF expert for example.

1. Let me setup / restore my iphone with my iPad pro like we do using iTunes on Mac. We have iCloud baclup. But sometimes when things go wrong, I know I know I can do it using my iPad.

2. External drive support seems to be one of the fan favourites.. Would love to have it.

3. Fully equipped desktop LIKE iOS apps. ( Office, pdf, photo and video editor)

4. More flexible file management.

In this order:

- a real file system
- an option in safari to use 'desktop' mode by default (so i can use my iPad in a pro manner lol)
- opening multiple files of the same app i.e. 3-4 excel documents at the same time
- trackpad integration - whether app specific OR entirely
- external drive support

I agree with your comment. My iPad has pretty much replaced my MacBook. One huge difference for me is unlimited LTE. With my MacBook I always have to plan my work around locations with WiFi. With my iPad Pro I never have to think about that.

This is something I’ve never managed to get my head around. Why don’t manufacturers put a sim tray In laptops?! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Lack of LTE in anything but my iPhone is a non-issue for me. My iPhone can provide WiFi to my iPad or MacBook if and when it’s needed, which isn’t often.

Well, that’s what one has to do when it’s not available on the said device. Having said that I concur with you in terms of me needing WiFi on other devices when it’s not available.

Integrated File system, and a feature where we can hold our finger on the screen and a cursor pops up! More advanced features in general would be great. Maybe a high performance mode? Developer options?

won't happen. Final Cut Pro needs way more power than an iPad Pro has.

but I will agree that they need to do some work on iMovie. It's not even close to on par with the desktop version and there are many things that would work just find on a tablet. like frame cropping etc

Pretty sure the iPad Pro has plenty of power to run Final Cut Pro. It’s CPU is well above the minimum spec for Final Cut Pro. We meet the minimum requirements for RAM, and video memory. The 1TB model is even above that.

The iPad Pro 2018 is more than capable of running Final Cut Pro X, the benchmarks for the new iPad Pro rival the 2018 Macbook Pro.

It is a terrible implementation of the swipe-up feature for the app switcher. From my perspective it's just poor design that the OS allows you to perform these two very similar gestures for two very different purposes.

I would like a feature to let Disabled people, use an external pointing device. Disabled people who can’t use a touch screen. Essentially mouse support.
We need dedicated A12X 8 Core Optimizations. I load several sites on my old 6s Plus vs my iPad Pro 11 and they are a tie. The 8 Core CPU should be a easy win.

That’s actually a good one, however I don’t see apple adding mouse support. I think IOS 13 will get more advanced and give more features but I don’t think it will have any kind of mouse support or Mac software on it.

People ask for MacOS hybrid type of software on the iPad Pro, Apple have however said no a number of times. The Mac and IOS devices are separate.
