Sadly no. Many people who’ve replaced various iPad Pros have had touch issues pop up again on the replacement. Sometimes immediately, sometimes months down the line.

So yeah it’s nice you got a replacement that’s working, I’ve tried multiple times and keep getting iPPs that have or develop this issue.

I will not buy another iPad Pro until Apple fixes this design flaw. Nor I will not jump through hoops again trying to get another one exchanged only to be refused again. One $1k wash is too much.

I'm on my 3rd iPad and they have all had the touchscreen glitch. I'll be on my 4th iPad. How can apple make money when they have to supply 4 iPads for 1 iPad sale, assuming I won't need a 5th.

Liked because you make the point that touch glitches keep happening with replacements.

Unfortunate that you and everyone else who has had issues keep going through this though.

I think the new iPads are very fragile, and any light impact, or even a short 1-2ft fall on some fresh fluffy carpet can mess one up, and cause these touch issues. They are very thin, and I can’t say for sure if that’s the problem. I really do think it has something to do with it.

If apple is going to make a device this thin, I wish they would use a steel frame in the future. It is so much stronger. Yes steel is heavier. But, really who cares?

I’m pretty certain a lot of the touch issues happen because of how thin and flimsy the iPads are. And, if your device isn’t true or doesn’t stay true to its shape then touch problems are going to occur.

My current iPad is ok, the touch response is great, and it is about as straight as it can get. But, I feel like I’ve gotta really handle it with this utmost ultra care lol to not harm or lose that perfect touch responsiveness. I honestly feel like 1 trip in a backpack could really ruin one lol.

It sucks ^ and no one should have to do this. But, it is what it is.

Are you getting retail units? Or are they warranty refurbished models?

My first (2) were refurbished 64gb cellular models, both had the touch issues without a screen protector ever installed.

I decided I wanted to try a brand new retail unit, so I bought a 1TB unlocked cellular model on eBay that was sealed. It is absolutely perfect, I’m 8 days in so far with a average of 7-8 hours of use everyday. I’m using a thick glass screen protector too, and NO touch issues at all. Thank you Jesus! Lol.

Fortunately I didn’t lose any money during this endeavor on selling my last iPad, and I only added some to upgrade to the larger storage model.

I wish everyone could experience a iPad Pro 2018, the way it should be experienced. And I hope everyone out there finds a good one eventually. And when you do, don’t bump or drop it.

Some of us were speculating the thin design is murder on the touch components when the CPU overheats, the thing is though both of my 10.5’s had touch issues (brand new) right out of the box.

And the 2018s “seem” very fragile. Both times I was drawing on demo models I thought for sure I was going to break the iPad Pro display by pressing too hard with those awesome gen 2 pencils.

I am glad you got a good one and that others have too.

I wish Apple would actually give an orchard and stop with the cheap innards and builds already. I would love to use an iPad Pro again, but I’ll wait. I wouldn’t mind a thicker iPad Pro if it meant I could use it for at least 2 years.

Main thing for me, not to lock out which of my cameras video files MY iPad pro will allow to be imported.
Can't use it for my 4k 60fps video files for some unknown reason only apple themselves know.

We can only speculate that in 2020 sometime when the new iPad Pro comes out, it will probably be a perfect iPad for everyone. Apple can only learn from there own designs. Too thin actually does exist lol!

It would be so cool if they used a steel frame and maintained the same slim design though.

I’m going to keep this one for a while. Probably going to be at least another year from right now before we see a new iPad Pro. Until then I happy, I just wish everyone else was too.

I'll be on my 4th iPad with all of them having the touch issue. This time they didn't have a new one in stock so they are ordering a new one. I don't think it could be a refurbish, they aren't even selling refurbs yet.

I got mine last week, while I love it & multitasking is a LOT better... some sort of tabbed App Approach would be even better for switching :)

For iOS:
- more preferable to cursor support for me would be a tablet-optimized text input/editing method that's comparable to the practicality of a keyboard. Even if it takes awhile to learn, if it means being as productive on a tablet as on a laptop without trying to turn the tablet INTO a laptop, it would be worth it to me. Until then, I’d like swipe gestures added to the stock onscreen keyboard. Edit- and possibly system-wide handwriting recognition with the pencil.
- support for external touch screen displays, including using other ipads as external touch screen displays. Edit- preferably also with pencil support.
- I’d like all apps to keep their portable files in Files.app by default.
- automatic selective sync of apps and Files.app folders when my ipad is near or on the same wifi network as my mac or my other ios devices.
- automatic wireless incremental backups to my Time Machine drive when on the same wifi network.
- files.app- be able to create my own folder hierarchy, and external drive support.
- be able to stream or send media files from any of the stock Apple media apps (tv, music, podcasts, books) to any other nearby apple device that is using the same apple id.
- remote desktop my other iOS devices (eg. my iphone) on my ipad.

For apps:
- same functionality as their desktop counterparts.
- all apps need to be able to edit files in the Files.app in place without import and export.
- all apps need to support split screen.
- apps need to support tabbed documents and split screen documents if appropriate.

Opening up same app in multiple workspaces
Interesting. I havent thought about that use case (only split screen), but I could definitely see it being useful.

Love to see the following things although I doubt they will happen:

Launchpad (like we have in macOS)
Full desktop version of Safari
Forcing more developers to make iPad Pro apps offer split screen and picture in picture
Floating apps
Spilt screen with same stock apple apps (we already have safari split screen tabs, maybe they can add notes, mail, etc).

I doubt we will ever get a real file system or any kind of mouse support.

I would love to be able to access Microsoft office Documents from my Windows 10 PC shared document folder with my iPad over Wi-Fi. If the iPad is to replace a laptop, it needs this functionality as I like to access the document, edit it and save it back to the shared folder on my PC.

1) Add widgets to any launcher / homescreen page
2) Arrange apps. any way one wants on the launcher / homescreen pages
3) System-wide dark mode
4) Multiple instances of an app.
5) Desktop mode web browser

So just today I was reminded yet again why I prefer PC over iPad.

Here is my use case from today:

1. I was writing a private message in Safari using hardware keyboard
2. In the meantime I was chatting with two friends in skype and Facebook messenger

The language I used for the PM was English. The language for the chat was Bulgarian. I had to switch between apps and languages numerous times.

Here are the issues I found:

1. Most keyboard accessories for iPads do not handle that well languages different than English. There are certain letters that I cannot find on said keyboard. As a result I had to use both the hardware keyboard and the on screen one for the letters that are not supported by the hardware keyboard.
2. iOS does not offer multi languages cross apps. In other words I cannot use English for Safari and Bulgarian for Skype/Facebook messenger. Every time I switched to an app, I had to also switch the language. Add to this that I had to go through Emojis every time and it was slowing me down even further. When I using hardware keyboards I need easy way to go to the language I use, not to go through all of the options until I find the language I need.
3. There is a bug in Safari. After switching 1-2 times the cursor vanishes. Same happens if you write a long post. You can't see where you are typing or editing. You have to refresh the screen (in other words refresh somehow). That's not always possible as you might lose what you have started typing.

Now that use case above is not something you need when it comes to iPhones. When it comes to computers? That's my every day usage. See it's not about being power user. It'S about simple stuff like this one. iOS just does not handle those regular cases.

IMO if they want to improve iPad usage they need to support cases like this. I do understand that this is not the usage on the American market, but it is in all other countries (aside UK).

Ability to increase native resolution of apps for those with good eye sight. There is no need to restrict the full multitasking options to the 12.9. The 11 inch can do it as well but apple should give the option to the user rather than decide for us.

So with the new iPad Pro's (2018) being complete beast when it comes to power, what new software features would you like to see in IOS 13? Do you think IOS 13 will make the iPad Pro more capable?

With WWDC around 3 months away i thought it was fun to speculate about what features the iPad Pro might get. Mark Gurman from Bloomberg did say that Apple are working on an updated Files app, tabs in apps (like in MacOS), same app side by side, some new Apple Pencil stuff and the one that stands out the most for me is the home screen redesign which is said to be iPad focused. Aside from these features would you like to see anything else?

Here is my personal list:

More Pro apps like Final Cut Pro X for iPad Pro
Home screen redesign that makes the iPad Pro look less like iPhone
gestures for the Apple Pencil
Dark Mode
Updated look to IOS

The iPad Pro is a great device but in order to make use of its power the software needs to get better, lets hope that happens in IOS 13 :)
I’m excited for dark mode and the updated files app.

Yours is a 11” or a 12.9”? I’m trying to make a correlation and see if it’s predominant on one size than the other. Yes, I know both models can show this behavior, but it’s just a matter of statistics. Thank you

Like I asked above, would you be so kind to tell what size do you own? It’s for statistics only. 11” or 12.9”?
Thank you.

This is really a little thing but, I’d also like to see uses for all of the F keys on the magic keyboard. The media, brightness, and volume keys work, but the two keys that start expose and the launchpad on the Mac do nothing. I’d like it if they brought you to the home screen and opened the app switcher.

2017: both 10.5” and 12.9” iPad Pro models
2019: iPad Mini 5 :(

I do not own any iPads anymore.

Where did you get the iPad Mini 5? Was it a new one?
Yes it was new. Apple store in NYC.

WiFi, 256gb, space gray.
[doublepost=1554416310][/doublepost]
So you are saying that there are touch issues on the Mini 5 as well??
Yes. My fingers and the pencil would not respond in procreate. I had to quit the app and start over. Several times.

It became unusually hot while I was downloading movies on to it at the Apple store on Friday morning. So if heat is a culprit, well that was the issue.

I am so bummed, but just going to investigate Wacom tablets now. I am done with giving Apple chances with iPads until they fix this issue.
