I’m good thanks. Tried it again with transparent glasses in a dark room and still don’t notice anything special. Screen is still great.
But I’m not sure how the rose tint in my Apple glasses affects blooming anyway

From now on I’ll watch stuff after capturing my iPad with a phone camera in total darkness nicely overexposed. I think that’s how it works
Well at least your honest about it.

And nah, you don’t need to use a camera to notice the blooming. Hence the point of this post. People here really are using the excuse of using an overexposed camera haha

the screen is great tho, yup

Sorry. Forgot the sarcasm tag for you ?

I absolutely don’t notice any excessive blooming when using that thing normally. That’s all. I absolutely need a wrongly used and overexposed camera to see it.

I have a 12,9" on order and it's arriving on friday. I have ocd... I'm having second thoughts, will I be able to live with it? I'm spending nearly 2000USD for this machine+magic keyboard. Maybe it's just worth getting the 11" and have the consistent bad blacks. I'll have to wait and see for myself I guess. People are veeeeery different about this issue. Some people are disgusted by the blooming and some say it's "nearly nothing" etc.

You see it only when you search for it, testet it with my own and it was only noticible if you going in a dark room and watch a dark screen with white on it, but only noticible with camera, for my eyes i see it not as a problem, the older screen glow is way more frustrating like this amazing new 2021 mini led for sure

So he has absolutely edited it in post to make it look better than it is.
It is way way worse in real life than he makes it seem.

If it was as good as he makes out, I would be happy with it, and would be keeping it.
But the reality is so much worse.

Max Tech will always have a bias as the channel is dedicated to Apple (I do like watching their content). If you're negative towards Apple you get cut off and possibly blackballed. So, while I don't have a dog in this fight, this video was very sugar-coated and I'd argue they avoided/cut away from some shots that didn't support their narrative. That said I'm sure the blooming issue can be controlled, like avoiding dark mode etc.

One youtube channel dedicated to Apple vs real-world users reports doesn't justify the thread title "The Truth About Blooming" IMO although it was interesting to watch.

Guys, Max Tech was spot on. I have an OLED TV and it does slightly bloom too. It's because there's a glass on top of the panel, for one thing. In the case of the Mini-LED's on the iPad, which produces way higher brightness than OLED, the blooming can be a little more but not as exagerated as in the photos being circulated.

Also, our naked eyes can produce blooming when looking at a bright object up close.

Max Tech is right in suggesting to lower the brightness on the Mini-LED iPads. These new screens are really bright and therefore should be tamed accordingly. And they are indeed beautiful to watch HDR/Dolby Vision with.

Ok. One last comparison. One is my OLED laptop screen the other my iPad Pro. The OLED also shows the light bleed around the balls when looking right.
I think Apple did a fantastic job and I expected worse. My wife doesn’t even know what I’m talking about here lol

It’s not a issue I can’t believe ppl are calling this a “issue” u have to bump up the brightness above normal usage and look for blooming , seriously? And to the ppl crying for oled idk why because that technology has issues like raised blacks, horrible green tint, uniformity issues, banding, crushed blacks, and this is not me against oled I have a oled tv and it’s great but if I go looking for “issues “ I will find them . My iPhone 12 has horrible green gradient tint that I notice when it’s in a low light environment on a dark background. And I exchanged it several times and this was the best I could find.

Both screen technology have there flaws if you look for them some cases they are obvious that’s the screen lottery. but the fact is mini led is far superior to what we got in last years iPad and the 2021 11” , till micro led is available this is what we have just enjoy.

of course any display tech can show bloom when you see it through a photo/video camera
you can make the ultimate test that even the micro-Led will not pass...make this video with a mirror, shot the video into the mirror that show the display...and you will always see the" bloom"...is the effect of image travel/speed barrier

so those who poasted those images i bet they were taken with a smartphone camera and not with a prof camera...and even a prof camera can see the blooming if you make the mirror test/effect

Nothing to worry about, had mine since launch day, no chance it’s going back.

My personal experience so far with the blooming :

No issues whatsoever in daylight, bright or dim does not matter, dark mode or light mode does not matter. Black levels are really great.

During night time i only have an “issue” in a completely dark environment (dark mode and night shift on) but,
- movies still look great with the contrast. Especially light sources like lamps are really beautiful against a dark background
- bright (white/yellow)text on black surface and bright UI elements such as the white bar in the middle bottom or the battery indicator in the corner does show blooming. a good example of this is you look at the opening of a Star Wars movie where you have the yellow text with the “backstory” in the beginning.

Same with white drawings of lines and dots in notes (dark mode) and white text in the books app (dark mode). Here you get a greyish halo of 1 cm around the text. In the books app I must admit it’s annoying enough so that it could be an issue for some people. It feels almost as if the text doesn’t make use of the 2600 dimming zones yet, but just the 70 of the older models.

1cm? Really? That’s pretty big….

Personally I think people are too picky, sure there are visible dimming zones, but they're not really a big deal unless you decide to make them a big deal.

Nothing is perfect, not even the iPad Pro.
This is the correct response. Regardless of the product released there is always a subset of people on this site complaining about the screen. The sheer volume people who get overly anal retentive about color temperature on their iPhone every year is always comical to me.

And that’s all, folks. This video should be linked to every bloomer spreading their nonsense. Blooming exists, but it’s nowhere near bad as photos of sorry bloomers spreading panic and misinformation.

Then you have a crappy OLED tv, 100 %

Then they’ll say he’s a ‘fan boy’ and a ‘sheeple’ and say it’s rigged because on ‘their’ iPad Pro m1, that they’ve never owned, is worse than anything in existence. Then they’ll show you one of the widely debunked ‘photos’ as proof. Boom. That proves it all. Oh, and also the billion core amd threadripper (eta 2046) pisses all over an m1 anyway.

As for MaxTech... pfft, I think their staff seems really nice, they're accessible and produce a quality product, but their bias is ridiculous. The screen in his iPad could be on literal fire and he would be saying "Wow! How is this even possible! Look at the contrast!"
They might be biased (who isn’t, to some degree?) but they make it up with their quality (objective) screen/battery/sound comparisons and benches from which you can form your own opinion.
If I wanted to listen how good M1 iPad is I’d just watch one of the dozen Apple shills who got it early for their previews.
