Honestly... first time I have experienced a Genius Bar guy with attitude. He never looked up anything, just looked at the iPad and told me he couldn't help me. He never used his iPad to check the serial number. Nothing... quite intimidating actually.

Next time tell them up front that the device is covered under AC+. You got to understand these geeks has seen it all and he know that iPads do not bend by themselves. Once he understands you have AC+ the geek knows they got to replace.

Sometimes you get that one "genius" that takes the title a little too seriously.

I sat in an Apple Store listening to the tearful pleas of a teenager sobbing because the Genius wouldn't replace her MacBook Pro because she spilled a 32 ounce pop on it. She didn't realize that Diet-Pepsi would ruin her MBP, and thought that it was 'SO UNFAIR' (pout) because it was 'an accident' and that Apple wouldn't 'make an exception in this one case' and replace it. I rolled my eyes so hard I swear people could hear them! She left sobbing, still (A+ for Oscar performance), and asking what she could do to 'fix it'. They actually suggested distilled water. I mean, it's already fried, what is a little more liquid going to do, am I right!

Geniuses are probably some of the most tolerant people when it comes to the crap they see and no doubt on a daily basis.

At another Apple Store, a guy started getting hostile over his dropped MBP (screen shattered, touchpad cracked). He thought that just because he yelled louder than necessary to be heard over the din of the store, and acted all huffy and assholish after being told that was 'not covered', that Apple would just bend over and poop out a brand new one On The Spot. Instead they threatened to call the police, and wished him a good day, and watched him as he cursed and stomped his way out of the place. His threats to 'NEVER EVER BUY ANOTHER APPLE PIECE OF 'DOOKY' EVER AGAIN!' (pout stomped foot) made them laugh in the back room, I'm sure.

I have gotten the best service by wearing a suit and tie, and going in and stating what's wrong, and suggesting solutions, and playing dumb when necessary. Not 'stupid', and always treating them nicely. They deserve it...

But that doesn't mean that I haven't had the occasional Genius on an ego trip. I just go get a snack, and come back later. Usually they have forgotten about me, and I get help then from someone else. (Although that one time. A Genius noticed I came back, after I was already talking to a different one, and I relayed all the attitude I got earlier. I think he got a 'talking to'. He wasn't happy that I came back, and after he was talking to another genius while looking at me, I started making hand gestures towards him, and both the new Genius, and I were giving him dirty looks. I just spoke the truth. Got issue solved which was why I went there in the first place) (I think going in in a suit makes them feel like you are from a business (good guess) and they do not want to overly piss off business types) YMMV

Time to give them an attitude as well. You're a paying customer...you shouldn't have to tolerate that. I personally would like to see them get fired.

But they hold most of the cards. Sounds like the OPP should have mentioned their AC+, like by saying that 'I thought the AC+ was a waste of money when I bought it.'

If you meet attitude with attitude, they will communicate that and you aren't likely to get a warm cup of spit. I believe they save pictures of 'bad customers' and warn other stores about them too.

"Hey buddy, i'll see you after work...."

News reporter: "hi johnny, this apple employee have gone missing for two weeks."

In all seriousness, they still have to help that customer regardless.

I probably would've just filed a complaint about the Genius bar person separately when they ask me what happened when I went to the Apple Store.

I have been in the Apple Store when they had to have the police remove an "entitled snowflake". They had dropped their 6 month old 7+ and wanted it replaced for free because it was under warranty. This person swore that Apple had replaced a friends phone for free and wanted the same treatment. His voice got louder and louder until the rather large police asked him to leave.

I have never had a problem with any of the Geeks and they have always supplied great service.

I once dropped an iPhone and cracked the screen. No AppleCare+ on this one.
I came into the Apple Store, took full responsibility for my boneheaded move without a performance, and just asked what my options were. I was totally cool about it.
The Genius went in the back for a couple minutes and came back out and just swapped it out for a new one right then and there. No harm, no foul.

Sometimes just being upfront with them, without acting like they owe you something, goes miles. I'm sure they get these pieces of sympathy performance art all the time.

Same.

Twice!

Each time I told them the story, took out my wallet, and asked how much to fix it...
Walked out a few minutes later with a new device, no charge.

Maybe these apple people are discriminating against certain type of people? You could still be nice and upfront and still get denied or must pay up.

You have to understand the frustration for people who are out a ton of money, and hear all these stories from people saying Apple took care of them. We on this forum know Apple's policies inside and out, but the average Joe only hears that Apple replaces items for free. So, when they are at their bottom, they are frustrated for 2 reasons.

In all seriousness, they DID. Give us $400 for a refurb, or leave. Going on what the genius had at the time, that was 'help'.

If you treat them nicely, or anyone else nicely, you often get better results. Always try that first. Admitting you are human is sometimes the worst thing for some people to do.

They did with entitlement more like.

Both new models bend very easily. Put these like anything into an environment where extra pressure is exerted, you know what you're going to get. Yes I think Apple should be putting stronger metal in these things. But we all know they are obsessed with thinness over durability and practical everyday use.

Just like we all don't care if an iPhone shaves 1mm of thickness when many would prefer we have 2 days of full battery life.

Lol, aluminum bends. Water is wet. Fire is hot. These aren’t “commercial grade”, “industrial” products. They are well made, consumer devices. You exert force, **** happens. No matter who it’s made by.

You don’t need stronger devices, you need less dumb people.

I take care of my stuff to the point Apple has said that's in good shape. When I had my iPhone 6 it bent ever so slightly and I never had it anywhere but my bedside or my front pocket which was loose fitting. They designed the volume rocker in a weak fashion. Then they reinforced it. But never said anything. So, there is a line between normal use and stupidity. You sit on your phone you get what's coming.

I would think that they would put stainless, or titanium pins in the top and bottom of the damn things to keep them from bending. The weight hit would be minimal, and the durability of the 'pro' models would make them stellar products. Worth the extra cash...

I only had the iPad Pro for a few days, and it's already bent!! I received it last Friday (which was a nice surprise) and this morning I noticed how it had a bend in it. Anyone else with this problem?

(just wanted to add that this is from normal use at home, never put it in a bag or did anything unusual to it)
[doublepost=1504895574][/doublepost]Exactly same problem on exactly same side of ipad and again no mishandling and even protected by cover and keyboard. this is no accident. I am reading hundreds of these posts all across dozens of forums.... apple store no sympathy simply $800 repurchase option well thanks after 10 years of apple service having spent £10K plus in last 5 years alone!!!!

have one thanks. but would seem that all of these I am seeing bend are on the same side (Keyboard ) connector edge and yes see the posts on handle with care etc but to be honest I have 4 ipads in the household all of which have stood the test of time and wear and tear and never had any problems, this form factor bends it is all over the forums just thought people should know that when you spend over a thousand bucks on a unit with keyboard, case and pen that it is then potentially useless not due to maltreatment but due to a design flaw!

Which ipad is it? Pro 2? Or 1? I have first gen and never that problem...or maybe because i don't use keyboard connector.

I dont think the issue would be using the connector, it would be the theory that the case may be weakened by the circle cutouts for the connectors.

Would be interested myself if you would post those forums for us, where you have hundreds with the same issues. This MacRumore forum is the most popular and I’ve only read less than a handful over the years.

I really have no idea to what extent to take all these reports seriously.

I have no trouble believing that the iPad Pro bends easily. This is natural given its larger size.

What I find extremely dubious are all the reports of spontaneous bending. Claims like "again no mishandling and even protected by cover and keyboard. this is no accident." are very hard to believe - far more likely some pressure was applied to it knowingly or unknowingly, and the complainers are either being dishonest or oblivious.

Again, unless it is typical bending due to "battery bloat" - it's more likely that people treat the iPad Pro with the same cavalier attitude to other, smaller iDevices assuming that the bend resistance is similar and then complaining about it. I would also consider it possible that under extreme temperature changes the metals might expand differently and cause bending.

That's fine, just don't insist that it gets bent without any externally applied pressure / other abnormal environmental factors. I can appreciate a call to action for Apple to use higher grade aluminum, just not these "magical" reports of self-bending.
