Just got another replacement iPad in and it also has a dead subpixel. At this point I'm just going to shelve the idea of getting an M4 iPad. Either tandem OLED is inherently susceptible to these issues or Apple has massively reduced their QC efforts. I had like 5 iPads lifetime and many more devices in hand at work and none of them had any display issues. Not going to start accepting it on the most expensive iPads yet.
Found a good deal on iPad Pros recently so I went ahead and tried my luck again and lo and behold, I was finally able to get an iPad Pro M4 13 inch without any dead pixels or subpixels again. Out of the 5 I had, 3 had pixel issues, making it a 60% chance to get a dud. So I guess if you are in a similar situation, there are good devices out there.

whats your mfg date. I just got my replacement (due to constant crash and restart) that was a May 24 build and the warranty replacement was also May 24.

It's March 2024. Interestingly one of the older iPads out of the ones I had.

Well, it was my turn... bought on June 21.

I sort of fell off the map. I did receive an 11-inch from the online store and it seems to be defect free when speaking of dead pixels but it seems to be an inherent trait of OLED. It could be a dead pixel or a less bright subpixel that causes this. At least that’s my hunch.

I hope production improves and QA improves but these technically pass QA per internal Apple specs according to several managers I’ve spoken with. Now most managers want their customers to be happy and within the 14-day limit will exchange it but these generally won’t qualify for warranty repair until you’re are 3+ more dead pixels.

so i must have asked the two reps that i dealt with 10 times to confirm, but per their verbal response, ANY dead or bright pixels ANYWHERE would qualify.

It really depends. Did you ask the sales folks or the Genius Bar folks?

What I meant was, sure you can exchange within the 14-day policy as you wish. But if you try to utilize a warranty exchange/repair, it will be a gamble. Technically, Apple says 3+ pixels to qualify for these sized displays. But you may also get someone who will override that.

I just got the new replacement and it seems to be fine. We'll see what happens in the next few days.
