Wireless charging is coming to the iPads and all mobile devices, for sure. Inductive charging industry is roughly only 10 years old now and it will keep improving dramatically. Best wireless charging systems are running currently at 86% efficiency and will only keep improving. There is also a huge demand for wireless charging systems, for everything from transportation to small devices like iPhones.

There is no doubt that it will be real in the near future.

There is no inductive charging on you iPad via the Smart Connector. The smart connector is simply making electrical contacts that charge you battery, just like plugging it in.
Yeah, but there's no wire involved. I. e., it's wirelessness. The average consumer isn't interested in what precise technology is or is not being used, he's only interested in the convenience of wirelessness (which is huge).

It was when this poster used the word INDUCTION that I had to reply. There was no induction at these connectors on his dock. :apple:

Probably schooled at the This is how the Apple charging system works school. Regardless of the input amperage and voltage the most the system will transmit wirelessly is 7.5w

You can input 100w but only 7.5 maximum will be transmitted by charger coil. So in way you both right. 10.5w is the calculated wattage but only 7.5w is used.

Point in fact the 7.5w is sending coil maximum output. In addition there is loss such that pick up coil in phone gets less than 7.5w

The XS and XS Max went to a copper coil in place of the ceramic coil on X from last year. Done to improve efficiency getting closer to 7.5w
I dunno where you went to school... but 5*2.1 = 10.5w

IN ACTUAL USE IT IS THE SAME FREAKING THING AS WHAT EVERYONE IS CALLING WIRELESS - I DON’T HAVE TO PLUG IN A FREAKING CABLE TO CHARGE MY IPAD THAT IS ALL I CARE ABOUT - WHO GIVES A CRAP IF IT IS QI OR THROUGH METAL CONTACTS BUILT INTO A STAND - THE FUNCTIONALITY OF PLACING THE IPAD ON A STAND AND IT CHARGING WITHOUT YOU PLUGGING ANYTHING IN IS THE SAME AS IF I GOT A QI CHARGER STAND FOR IPHONE - THIS FEATURE IS GONE WITH THE 3RD GEN - THAT IS THE WHOLE POINT OF THIS THREAD - WHATEVER THE HELL YOU WANT TO CALL IT ITS NOT THE SAME AS PLUGGING IN A CABLE
SO YOU DON’T PLUG IN THE LOGITECH CHARGING PAD? NOTHING ABOUT WHAT YOU USE IS WIRELESS.

We all have caps lock as well.

You keep giving theoretical reasons it shouldn't work. But I have this things sitting on my desk that damn well does work. Care to explain why?
Im not saying that It wouldn't actually work, as it would just fine. I'm saying its not practical for a tablet.

Which is identical to how Qi charging works - nothing is technically wireless charging currently - that’ll be great, but what the people advocating for this in this thread want is to be able to set your iPad down on a stand and without you doing anything else - the iPad charging - it’s pretty simple not sure where the confusion is? I also don’t understand how you don’t get the convenience of this feature - it is the same benefit that is available with the iPhone 8 or newer - you don’t have to plug a cable into your device
