I took it in today and the Apple employee refused to replace it under warranty. They kept insisting that it had to be my fault, like I sat on it or something. Apparently Apple has a very strict QC process and they never sell bent products and I should take care of it.

Holy crap you’re right. Unless it’s an off viewing angle or something, it’s definitely bent

Hold your horses, that is just lens distortion :)

There is always an Apple user, using his new iPad/Apple watch/ iPhone, and getting it damaged after slight use, and never saw or felt it happening,
there is no reincarnation of Urie Geller, working in one of the Apple factories,
you are just unlucky, buy a better case for it, and move on.

I have my new iPad pro, with only a soft sleeve, inside my backpack, that is positioned right up against my back, I have been commuting every day for 2 weeks, in train/bus/subway, and even leaning my back, with backpack, against a wall on the subway every day, and my iPad is still straight

I’m just going to keep using it since there is not much else I can do. I’m using the folio keyboard but that doesn’t really offer much protection.

There was another thread here showing where they put it on a table and it had a clear curvature showing the bend. Definitely wasn’t the camera bump either. So my horses are not held.

BUT we’ve seen this type of behavior before with iPads so I’m not calling it a gate or anything. But it is definitely an issue and not to state the obvious, but people should be careful with their expensive as hell devices

Got mine the day it came out and use it pretty regularly/heavily throughout the day and the only thing protecting it is the keyboard folio and my device is straight as an arrow. People really need to start taking better care of their devices lol.

I mean, I don't want to be rude, but this iPad doesn't bend unless under severe stress.

I'm definitely really careful with my devices. I've never cracked the screen on any of my Apple devices.

Good on him!

Why should apple be replacing an iPad that you bent by misusing it?

If you mean putting in my bag once is misusing it and then noticing a bend, then sure, I guess I misused it. I must have misused my previous iPad Pro 12.9" too since I have always put it in my bag the same way. "I'm putting it in my bag wrong".

My only question and the only thing that matters in the end: is your iPad still usable?

Apart from the slight bend, it's 100% usable so I'm just going to keep using it and ignore the bend. I have AppleCare anyways and I can tolerate the bend since it isn't extreme.

I have my 12.9 iPad in my bag all the time so yeah you did something to it for it to bend...either that or you’re Uri Geller

Well I guess it's probably a coincidence then! My 1 year old iPad Pro 12.9" (2nd gen) isn't bent and I have been using the same bag for that whole year. I must have been unlucky and the new iPad Pro 12.9" (3rd gen) bent after being in my bag once! There wasn't even much in the bag. My old iPad was even stepped on by a 4 year old on carpet! My old iPad has been in my bag with really heavy stuff (multiple computers, books, etc.) and it's fine... Hmm.. how interesting.

Are you sure that Apple pencil isn't a ICBM!
[doublepost=1541847823][/doublepost] Shouldn't be on sale if its that easy to bend, that frame is weak, and the glass being that thin is a surprise. Even if the glass was intact I think it will bend to easily and considering how easily Lithium-Ion batteries are damaged, this seems like a really bad design. No matter how careful you are accidents happen, and at this price point it is going to be a painful experience.

When will Apple realise that shaving off a few mm here and there for cost saving and aesthetics equals that old issue of form over function. Think I'll wait for next years model that is made maybe from stronger aluminium and thicker glass. I guess the old adage never buy revision one of a new design still applies.

Did you even watch the video? He said it probably wouldn’t bend in real world conditions and he was forcing damage on it to begin with. I follow this guy and he does these test with every new iOS device

It doesn’t even look bent, but if it looks bent it-you should take bette care of your products.
As I said early, I take great care with my Apple products since they are expensive. I have never cracked the screen on my iPhone (I have around 11 of them from 2G to XS Max), Apple Watch, iPad, Mac... I tend to not use them in unreasonable ways. I consider putting iPad in bag to be a reasonable use case which bending shouldn't occur. Either that or it was bent out of the box (iPad was bought on Wed, stayed in house on table for backup restore/sync on Wed/Thurs, put in bag once on Fri, noticed a bend on Sat after watching YouTube video about it).

As I have also said already, I am happy enough to keep using it as is and have peace of mind with AppleCare. All the functions work 100%. I was just trying to see if other people had similar issues, not to start a debate about how to use it. End of story.

I just got mine yesterday set it up and was using different apps I thought it looked a bit odd seems like it's bowed, so I am probably sending it back.

I also noticed that nothing fills up the entire screen, I tried games, movies, apps none of them fill the screen I checked all the settings etc. couldn't find anything. I have the iPad pro 10.5 and everything on there fills up the screen.

You do know how to determine if it is bent don’t you? “seems like it is bowed”

Me too, I must be really lucky as I have never had an Apple product bend. :p

Nothing wrong here either.

Have had mine for a week now, have taken 4 flights in the meantime always with the iPad in my backpack, taking out at airport security, using it constantly, in and out of the backpack, on packed public transport....nothing not even 1mm bend. Nothing!

So something is definitely fishy here

That is why I am suspecting that it was bowed out of the box! Let's see if it bends any further after I use it for a few months. I suspect that it won't because I tend to not be super rough with my iPad... Since I never checked it after opening the box, it was either bent out of the box or from the very unlucky first time it was in my bag.

I only checked for any bends after I saw EverythingApplePro's video! I was surprised to see a bow! Next time I buy an iPad or get a replacement, I am checking it before I leave the store!

Ok so that’s another case and you should take it further with Apple.

I always check my apple devices thoroughly for defects out of the box, I’ve had my fair share of scratches and dead pixels straight out of the box and Apple always exchanges them, but not sure what happens if you don’t make a complaint straight away after taking delivery.

You know it’s funny. If you totally broke your iPad AppleCare would Cover it. But because of this little bend they don’t give a damn. As someone that notices small things, the bend would probably irritate me so I can understand where you’re coming from

You and me both. I must be the luckiest Apple consumer ever, never have any issues like these.

Damn I hate to jinx it :p But me too, the last real problem I had with an Apple product was an iPhone 4 with an iffy screen. But they had a replacement on my doorstep next morning, so no biggie.

Never had a bent device yet, despite having owned all of the “easy to bend” Apple devices. Not that I’m complaining :D
