If the rumor pans out to be true about the shortage, would this impact whether or not Apple does preorders?

I have a feeling I'll be having to take a day off from work to go stand in line before dawn to get one of these things on launch day.

What rumor, this is the first I've heard about it.

I highly doubt that its accurate given that apple has had a huge lead time to manufacture the device.

I'm not worried, I'll get one when I get one. If I cannot pre-order, so what, I'll just order it and wait until it arrives. I survived this long w/o an iPad I certainly can wait a little longer.

I've got a great idea. What if Apple were to release the iPad in the UK first.

It would be far more likely for the rumored 300,000 units to satisfy demand here in Blighty.

If this number of units were to be released stateside, there are going to be some very frustrated customers:rolleyes:

Why can't people be more mature like this?

Will it kill you if you have to wait 2-4 week longer?

Why do people expend energy belittling others for wanting to get a product on the first day it's available?

/shrug

If you must know, I sold my netbook to raise money for the ipad. A month delay either officially or by nature of not being able to get ahold of one will mean two months without my normal access at work and traveling.

Actually, in all seriousness, I was wondering the same thing about pre-orders (As immature as I am)

I'm not going to wait in line for this as in the battle between desire and impatience, the latter wins.

I'm hoping that this rumor is either (BS or will change) or they will have pre-orders anyway

My back is bothering me today, and I will probably need to go lie down a bit. If I had the iPad, I could keep reading and posting stuff in this forum, or read an ebook, or watch a video, etc, etc, while resting my back. It's going to be a long month wishing for an iPad every time my back acts up. I hope I can be excused for wanting to get my hand on one as soon as humanly possible.

A MacBook Air would serve you even better, the out the MacBook Air section.

i never pre order an apple product but all of them i got on the first day.

if your serious wait in line.

you might make friends instead of talking on the net all day.

Seems to me you created your own problem. Did anyone force you to sell your netbook prematurely? What's that, you say? "NO". Thought so. Chill.

Apple has said nothing about pre-orders. We have been assuming it to be that way so this "bottleneck" could give Apple some time to complete the software and media agreements.

We might still be able to pre-order but the date of arrival is/could be up in the air.

Now the Joojoo and iPad can duke it out for "first to market".

Update!

This just in: Update, 11 a.m. PDT: An Apple spokeswoman told Wired.com on the phone that the “iPad will be available in late March.”

For someone that is not going to get an ipad, you sure are worried about people that want to get one.

I sold my netbook now because I anticipate at least a small surge of them on eBay as we approach launch. More netbooks on eBay means lower prices. Jobs said the first devices would ship in 60 days (late March) so I hardly think that 30 days prior to the anticipated replacement is too premature.

By all means continue to look down your nose at the rest of us though.

U definitely have a chip on your shoulder!

Not sure how you decided that the coming of the iPad means a global meltdown in used netbook prices, but whatever!

You're the most patient and sensible person on this forum.. Either that or you are just trying to convince yourself that waiting is OK. ;)

My man! I sold an almost-new PC clone in 1984 when the original Macintosh was announced. I then had to wait about a month and a half until manufacturing ramped up enough to meet the early demand. At least there was a demo model at the local Apple dealer that I could go play with now and then.
