There was a decent post I think on one of the Apple blogs:

The analyst has a lousy record, his job is to give advice to the people who follow him (hoping to give them a decent position in movement of the AAPL stock). - I'd imagine his rumormongering without any proven information would affect the stock price.

Rinse, repeat.

My man! I sold an almost-new PC clone in 1984 when the original Macintosh was announced. I then had to wait about a month and a half until manufacturing ramped up enough to meet the early demand. At least there was a demo model at the local Apple dealer that I could go play with now and then.

Well.. I sold my horse buggy back in early 1900's, when I first heard about Ford coming out with a new motorized carriage.. called "auto-mobile". So for 8 years, I had to walk 12 miles in snow and freezing cold between my farm and the town every morning and night.. until I was finally able to take delivery of my very own Model-T. But that was well worth it, because buggy prices have plummeted when Fords hit the local country store.

Still want complain about waiting for an iPad?

Why consume yourself with rumors -- from less that reputable sources no less?

I suspect the pre-ordering will commence by the 16th and the iPad will launch on the 26th, just in time for a little end of the quarter ka-ching.

BTW Apple was up $4 and change today so doesn't seem WS takes the rumor too seriously.

Usually Wall Street is a good indicator of potential roadblocks, etc. That they were up $4 is a pretty good sign.

If the rumor pans out to be true about the shortage, would this impact whether or not Apple does preorders?

I have a feeling I'll be having to take a day off from work to go stand in line before dawn to get one of these things on launch day.

That's exactly the purpose of the shortage LOL People will go wait in line overnight it will make the news, Apple will get free advertising...

And then miraculously the next day supplies will have free'd up and Apple will be heroes for being able to supply everyone with iPads without any wait...

It's a win win situation for Apple and a lose lose for the consumer...and it never fails because the consumers are always gullible enough to take the bait.

If you must know, I sold my netbook to raise money for the ipad. A month delay either officially or by nature of not being able to get ahold of one will mean two months without my normal access at work and traveling.

Well then, it sounds like you didn't make a wise choice. You should have sold something else to raise money for your iPad.

I'm willing to have dinne, you pay all costs, with anyone for the cost of the 64GB + 3g iPad.

I'm selling my company at dinner.

Any takers? Maybe I should put this offer on Ebay.

I hate camping out. I sure hope they do preorders...
I hate it and think it's kinda cool at the same time. When I went for the xbox 360 launch, there was like 80 people waiting outside Costco, since 6am. In the cold. lol. But we were all one. Waiting to get our hands on the 360. It was worth it. Having my friends on my list jealous, calling seeing me in the Xbox 360 dashboard. Suckers. I was like, awww man, it's awesome, it's a huge leap. Controllers, system, live, games, much much better.

iPad, isn't going to be as exciting as getting a true next gen tech like 360 was, but I still want it on launch. And enjoy it.

Heh, after seeing today's rumors again resurface, my first thought was "looks like no preorders." I'm guessing now they'll have the annoying store-only release with limited stock, and then open the online store to orders on the same day with possibly a week or 2 lead time.

So let's assume we can't preorder. How early do I need to get in line for something like this?

Let's put it this way, I live in Tyson's Corner Va, the Apple store here is supposed to be one of apple's "flagships". When the Iphone 3G was first released the line started forming at 6:00 am and went from the store all the way down the hall and out to the parking lot. Average wait, 6 hours!

The first batch is gonna have defects just like the first batch of 27inch imacs.

I am going to wait till the first group of testers buy the units and when they report the erratas to Apple, then the second batch will be the one to get once Apple announces that all errors are fixed.
