The BBC's iPlayer is a reason all by itself to buy the iPad. It handles streaming content via a Wi-Fi connection seamlessly and, as with the full-fat website, gives you catch-up for much of the corporation's output. The catch is, of course, that it's UK-only – get to it via the BBC website and then put a link to it on your desktop.

Very cool recommendation. We love reading our news and watching companion videos to the news on the app. BBC's content will be a great addition.

The only travel issues you have to worry about with the iPad is the stupidity of the TSA screeners. I recently took mine on a trip and the screener decided to remove my iPad from it's sleeve and put it screen down in one of those dirt-laden bins, scratching the screen! I had to just submit a claim to TSA for the damage. Other than that, it is a GREAT travel companion.

I was wondering if you had to remove it like a computer? I can just leave my kindle in my carry on. Sorry about your scratch, that really sucks.

Just got my this morning by the way..!

Mine was in a neoprene sleeve and she took it out. iPad's are not supposed to be treated like a laptop (ie; need to be turned on) by TSA. She asked me if it was a laptop and I said no, she took it out of the sleeve anyway and hence the screen scratch.
