A lot of people coming from X- or 11-shaped phones who bought the 12 Pro sight unseen have commented on how much bigger the new phones feel due to those flat sides. People who like big phones will be fine with this, but I expect the size difference to feel more significant than those extra few millimetres would suggest.
I agree. The size is something and then the shape, the design is something else. But the first hands-on will tell.

The whole "iT's tOo BiG!" argument is getting a bit tired already, though. I've had the largest size phone since they were available and it's not a problem for me personally. I'm a small girl with small girl hands. It still fits into the back pocket of size 4 jeans. It fits fine in a small purse.

I just like a big screen. To each their own. Hope people will enjoy the Mini too. It's small and cute, but I read a LOT on my phone and game quite a bit as well -- the larger screen size is welcome.

I agree. It's slightly larger than the iPhone 6 plus, but it is not too big.

I think the size is big if you’re on your phone a lot. I use my Apple Watch to keep me from constantly checking my phone, so I can put it down for long periods of time. I use my Mac for big tasks and I’ll use the 12 pro Max to consume content. If I had an iPad Pro then I would get the mini. The 12 pro is too much money for the battery life and specs that are close to the 12.

But the huge difference is also the screen size (so not just the body) and you are not struggling as much while using the 6+ (6s+, 7+, 8+) than while using the 11 Pro Max or even worse the 12 Pro Max when trying to reach the top or the bottom of the screen (5.5" vs 6.5 (11PM) or 6.7 (12PM).

I am a photography enthusiast and I was really really tempted to order the 12 PM and still find it really great but I am not sure that the extra battery, the new camera stabilization and the bigger sensor will compensate/balance for the struggle that carrying or manipulating a huge phone will be every day.

I agree that the iPhone 12 Pro is priced just $100 less and cut on some 12PM camera features but it is sill a great photo-phone and so much easy to use/put in your pocket.

The 12 Pro is more versatile than the 12 PM is. I agree. It boils down to personal preference.

There is a very fine line between perfect and just too big.
And that line is somewhere at a millimeter it seems.

11Pro Max. 158mm x 77mm x 8mm x 226g
12Pro Max. 160mm x 78mm x 7mm x 228g
yeah...they are not very far apart size wise.....

The price difference between the iPhone 12 128gb and 12 Pro is £150 in the UK (I think $150 in the US right?) and if you're interested in photography then the 12 Pro over the reg 12 worth it IMO (Personal preference again ;) ) because of the extra Telephoto lens, Lidar, ProRaw coming, extra 2 gig which is futureproofed and which could be used in some photography software computation.

right also not too sure about the impact of the very flat 12 PM sides. It gives better grip but it might not allow the hand to slide up or slide down easily over the screen.
My phone will always be in a case so the shape of the sides just isn't a factor. :)

you’ll all find out this phone has nothing to do with “too big” once you get it, and ALL these threads will switch to “too heavy”.

mark my words.
LOL. No.

Yet another fear mongering 12 PM post. The 12 PM is thinner this go round. It will make the device feel lighter in turn compared to the 11 PM both in hand(s) and in front pocket.

I will say it yet again. If you are happy with the size of the previous Plus and Max models, you will be just fine with the 12 PM.

The weight contributes to a more premium feel. Aluminum while light just doesn't have the same feel. Maybe it's more perception than real.
Until you use a light phone and then heavy doesn't feel as premium as it does unnecessary.

LOL!
I received the case for my Pro Max today and put my 7 Plus in it. The 7 Plus is just a little loose. I will notice the screen size difference but not the physical size.

I was surprised that the screen size increased from 11 Pro Max. At some point, IMO, if the screen size becomes unpocketable, then it becomes an iPad Mini.
True. And we all have an our own idea of the sweet spot in size. Just 3 or 4 millimeters wider and it’d be a perfect size for me. I’ll probably be happy with it though as the screen is taller than on my 8+. I’ll definitely miss the Touch ID though.

This year lots of iPhone 11pro and X (non max) users will probably be switching to the 12 pro max as it’s the best in feature among all iPhones. I feel for these people who will definitely feel that the max size is oversized.

however for people like us who love the bigger screen and battery every year, would love more a little bit bigger screen on a little bit bigger structure.

also for that commenter who says we shouldn’t let Apple let this get bigger to the size of a pizza box, well a time might come when a little tiny winy screen will probably fold out to a pizza box on the press off a button.

It is not just its size, but its weight. At 228g it is a bit heavy for me to hold for a long period. A 6'7" inch with this phone's thickness (preferably with rounded edges) and less than 200g of weight would be ideal...

...
I am used to large screen with one hand by frequently adopting reachability (swipe down gesture). Once you get familiar with it, it will become intuitive and never an issue for you (especially with the iOS14 introduction of widgets).

Just checked the weight, just 2g more than 11 Pro Max. They've done well to keep it the 'same' weight.

The flat sides don't look comfortable, but I never use a phone without a case, Apple's silicone ones feel comfy, can't see that changing.

Like matraco says above though, having a phone this size and sub 200g would be an incredible achievement and you would feel the difference.

Yeah that’s far away in measurements. The 12 pro max is 6.33 inch tall and the mini is 8 inches tall. That’s a big difference. The mini is 5.33 inches wide and the 12 pro max is 3.07 inches wide. Big difference.
