iPhone 12 Pro Max, unresponsive screen on my phone when it’s on a flat surface, it doesn’t respond to my thumb, cannot unlock it and it doesn’t work in certain apps. My other fingers seem to work fine. Once I hold the phone in my hands it works properly

So maybe it’s not just a Mini issue.

No issues here on mine. I have an ESR Screen Protector should that matter
I have ZAGG screen protector InvisibleShield Glass Elite VisionGuard+. Never had any problems with them on my other phones. Especially considering that this issue happens only when the phone is on a flat surface in horizontal position

No issues here. I have an elago silicone case and an ESR tempered glass screen protector on my 12 PM.

No issues. Generic glass screen protector "FOVAL" brand from Amazon, Apple leather case. Tried tapping it with my thumb gently and it turns on.

This almost reminds me of the weirdness back with the original 11" iPad Pros when they didn't respond well to multi touch with a screen protector on if you weren't holding the metal side with your other hand (say if it was resting on a pillow, etc). Amazingly that got fixed in an iOS update later... made me think it was a voltage kind of quirk.

Sounds like you may have what many of us mini users are going through.

I have a 12 Pro Max and am having the exact same issue the Mini users are reporting. Screen becomes unresponsive after a few minutes following a reboot, but only in a leather case. With the case off, it doesn’t seem to happen.

I’m experiencing what I feel like is a latency intermittently with touch response. Especially in certain apps and scrolling. Sometimes seems not to register touches. 12 pro max

Try taking the phone out of the case and see if it makes a difference. It made the problem go away for me.

Or perhaps some kind of grounding issue affecting the capacitive touchscreen.
Ya. I’m on chat with support now. They seem to think it sounds like hardware issue. They did diagnostics but didn’t show anything

That would seem to indicate some sort of overheating then maybe ?
My wife’s 12 Pro Max has similar issues where certain apps don’t respond at times. We’ve seen it particularly with mail, camera, and phone. I was trying to listen to some voice mails yesterday and after playing the first one I couldn’t scroll down or up or select another voice mail. The only thing that responded was the play/pause button but it was very laggy. The phone has been in an Apple leather case and has had a glass screen protector since the moment I peeled the white screen sticker off. It did not feel warm at all when this happened and hadn’t been used for a while. I don’t think it’s an issue with the screen protector either since you can swipe up to get to the app selector and can close the unresponsive app and the whole screen responds during that time. When reopening the bad app it works for one task (like going to the next voice mail) and then stops again.
