No issues. Generic glass screen protector "FOVAL" brand from Amazon, Apple leather case. Tried tapping it with my thumb gently and it turns on.

This almost reminds me of the weirdness back with the original 11" iPad Pros when they didn't respond well to multi touch with a screen protector on if you weren't holding the metal side with your other hand (say if it was resting on a pillow, etc). Amazingly that got fixed in an iOS update later... made me think it was a voltage kind of quirk.
Yeah, I feel like that’s the issue, once I hold in my hand even in the case on, it can conduct with my hands and no issues are there. Only happens when the phone is one a flat surface and is not in contact with my skin, only in that case it doesn’t react to my thumb, all other fingers are fine

I have a 12 Pro Max and am having the exact same issue the Mini users are reporting. Screen becomes unresponsive after a few minutes following a reboot, but only in a leather case. With the case off, it doesn’t seem to happen.
Seems like my issue is slightly different. The issue isn’t there when my phone is in contact with something that has electrical conductance, in that case it does react to my touch, otherwise it ignores only my thumbs, works with all other fingers

My wife’s 12 Pro Max has similar issues where certain apps don’t respond at times. We’ve seen it particularly with mail, camera, and phone. I was trying to listen to some voice mails yesterday and after playing the first one I couldn’t scroll down or up or select another voice mail. The only thing that responded was the play/pause button but it was very laggy. The phone has been in an Apple leather case and has had a glass screen protector since the moment I peeled the white screen sticker off. It did not feel warm at all when this happened and hadn’t been used for a while. I don’t think it’s an issue with the screen protector either since you can swipe up to get to the app selector and can close the unresponsive app and the whole screen responds during that time. When reopening the bad app it works for one task (like going to the next voice mail) and then stops again.
I actually noticed some bugs Apple’s native voicemail app (Phone), it acts very weird and doesn’t allow to ”jump” between voicemails and listen to them, I cannot rewind the message etc... however, this issue looks more like a software one, which they can fix with a next update

Perhaps related though in the sense that there is some conductivity component. I have used my phone all day with the case off today and have no issues, and then put it back in a case and the problem recurred within a couple of minutes.

I’m sorry that you are experiencing the issue, very disappointing, especially with a new phone

iPhone 12 Pro Max, unresponsive screen on my phone when it’s on a flat surface, it doesn’t respond to my thumb, cannot unlock it and it doesn’t work in certain apps. My other fingers seem to work fine. Once I hold the phone in my hands it works properly
Have you tried getting a new thumb?

Thanks, but it's all good. In the grand scheme of things and given what is going on in the world this is small potatoes really. I am fairly optimistic that Apple will either fix it with a software update or eventually replace the device, particularly as it seems like there are a large number of people experiencing the same problem.

That would be very bad news if it was hardware related. I can’t recall Apple ever issuing a recall on a phone.
I was surprised the apple rep said that...I think he just meant if it’s NOT software it would have to be hardware...or else, my imagination..

Were anyone's issues fixed with today's software update? Unfortunately mine still becomes unresponsive in a case after 14.2.1. I was really hoping this would fix it, although the notes do say it was specific to the iPhone 12 Mini.

Went to Apple Genius Bar, they asked me to reset the phone and set up as new Lol. Pretty much what I predicted and told them, but the issue is still there. Waiting for another appointment. It became something really annoying

They shipped my replacement finally. Seems better after the update but time to time odd touches not being registered. I’m not gonna accept that for paying this amount of money.

My iPhone 12 Pro Max was DOA right out of the box. Screen was responsive through setup and the software update 14.2.1. After that the screen was unresponsive, hard reset, Mac restore multiple times, nothing worked. Bought the phone online through Verizon and it was a horrendous ordeal to get them to send a replacement..

In the future, don’t buy from the carrier. As you have experienced, they are a pain in the butt on returns, even on defective products etc. Always try to buy direct from Apple.

I am glad to see you are being sent a replacement.

Their phones are almost the most expensive once, not the experience you expect for that price

When I recovered my 12 pro last friday and was setting it up, i had this problem where i had to pick the phone up to activate the screen and touching the screen when it was lying on the table did nothing. I didn't have a case on it at the time. I cant remember if it was before i updated to iOS14.21 but it seems ok now and i have an Apple leather case on it. I am going to keep an eye on it to see if the problem repeats itself.

Ya...I’ve been on the IUP the last couple years and was sucked in by T-Mobile offering $750 for my XS Max...in this situation T-Mobile wasn’t even able to send me the replacement due to no availability so I ended up paying for Apples Express Replacement cost of $30....luckily I convinced T-Mobile to pay that $30 since they couldn’t get me a replacement...will definitely think twice about dealing with these carriers directly again..

I’m having this issue with my Pro Max. Couldn’t even use my phone for a few hours yesterday. Going to the Apple Store this morning to try to get a replacement, even though no appointments are available and I already have another replacement on the way for the green tint issue. Hope I can get one, otherwise I’ll have to go back to my X over the long Thanksgiving weekend, which would suck.

Received replacement through Apple express replacement. Working perfectly. Zero issue. I also noticed the other phone raise to wake not working well.... definitely a dud I think. I’ve owned a lot of Apple devices and that’s the first one that was like that. I think their quality control is pretty amazing, but if you’re experiencing issues just get a replacement.

My screen is still unresponsive until I pick the phone up (12 Pro Max) and then it still doesn’t work with my thumbs. The update did fix an issue I had with my photos after the set up was complete; the photo count was correct and the memory was reporting space taken by photos but none of my photos were there, just a tiny picture of a cloud where each one should have been.
I’m not that impressed with my new phone to be honest, I expected better
