This is entirely my point. The iPhone SE was created to be a modern iPhone whilst keeping price low - the smaller 4.7" design was merely a consequence of that. This is an iPhone designed primarily for the budget-conscious, not the people who like small phones. If the latter were true, they would have gone to greater lengths to produce a new chassis with smaller bezels etc.

It wouldn't surprise me if the next iPhone SE (if there is one) is based on the 6.1" iPhone XR/11 chassis and size.

Whether it was designed for the ‘budget conscious’ or not, it attracted a lot of people who weren’t bothered about price but cared greatly for the size. My wife went from an iPhone 6 to an SE a few years ago and most of her friends copied her once they realised a smaller iPhone had come back. The size was appealing and I think still is to this day. The cost isn’t always relevant and Apple may or may not realise that.

Really hope the 5.4" iPhone 12 lives up to the hype, and Apple doesn't disappoint.

It's the phone I'm waiting for to upgrade from my original SE.

Hmm, wonder if Apple will keep the XR in the lineup. There's enough of a gap left by the lack of 8+/SE+.

$399 iPhone SE 4.7" 64GB

$499 iPhone XR 6.1" 64GB (?)

$599 iPhone 11 6.1" 64GB

$649 iPhone 12 5.4" 128GB
$749 iPhone 12 6.1" 128GB

$999 iPhone 12 Pro 6.1" 128GB
$1099 iPhone 12 Pro Max 6.7" 128GB

XR should be there until 2021 March, which it will be replaced by SE Plus for the same price.

I still dont understand how Apple is pricing their mmWave iPhone Pro at this price range. I guess we will have to wait longer to find out. Because it certainly does not fit into Apple's margin.

Although I do see Apple repeat what ( likely ) happen this year in 2021, where iPhone 13 Pro Starts at 256GB $1099, and introduce a Mini version 5.4" at $999.

who are these sources and how are they more reputable than Prosser?

I read that post to, as it stands; there is no more accurate analyst right now over John Prosser and Ming Kuo. Those two combined are essentially owning the iPhone market in predicting pricing/release windows/and overall physical specs’.

Because upgrade from XR to 11 was quite worthy.
And if someone says that everything is leaked, I think that we can be surprised at the end

I guess most people out there who aren't big tech enthusiasts do 2-year contracts, so it's probably best to look at the 12 as an upgrade from the XR for most people. So all the 11s camera improvements + 5g + oled + a14 + 128gb storage at base level + reduced bezels + further likely camera upgrades + I'd presume slightly better battery life over the 11, which has slightly better battery life over the XR. So for the "average consumer" the 12 will probably be a nice upgrade. For someone on the 11 right now I'd agree it looks a bit lacklustre.

I think we're arguing the same point? The point of the SE is that it's a powerful, entry-level iPhone, not that it's a small iPhone.

They wanted to hit $399. They chose the parts to do it. It happened to be a smaller phone. This is not the smallest phone they could have made, even if they wanted to keep a 4.7" screen, therefore this is a phone designed around a price point and not a screen size.

I think the rumoured 5.4" iPhone 12 is the phone a lot of people have been waiting for. That looks like being a phone designed size-first, with a new chassis and obviously higher price tag. The point I'm getting at is SE does not necessarily mean small, it means cheap. And that's fine. Loads of people want a cheap, powerful iPhone. The rumoured SE Plus is perhaps more evidence of this.

I wouldn’t even bother replying to Relentless Power. They go round the forum trying to start debates for no reason whatsoever and, as you can see from this convo, completely contradicts themselves.

The rumoured iPhone 12 is the first one I’ve been excited about in a long time.

I’m doubtful in the longer battery life in a smaller chassis.

True, should have specified the 6.1 inch 12 max, which I am sure will have a slightly better battery life than the 11 with a14 improvements + savings from switching to OLED. The 5.4 inch will probably have worse battery life, but I think most people switching from the XR/11 will go for the 6.1-inch model anyway.

Nope. Most people don’t want necessarily want a larger screen. They want the cheapest price, most up to date model with the latest specs, and a pocketable size while getting the first two. iPhone 6 through iPhone 7, the Plus version sold a lot worse, because it was larger and more expensive at the same time.

The only reason people buy the 11 is because it’s much cheaper than the 11 Pro. With the iPhone 12, many many iPhone 11/Pro users will shift to iPhone 12 non MAX.

Disagree. One only needs to look at the sales of Android phones this year; the S20+ destroyed the S20 which didn't even appear in the top 6 list. The 11 pro max/XS max also vastly outsold the 11 pro and XS max. Small phones are popular among enthusiasts on this forum + Reddit but people irl do generally prefer bigger phones and thats why phones keep on getting bigger. I am 99% certain the 6.1 inch max will be the best selling 12.

Samsung gimps its smaller phones. That’s why they don‘t sell. That’s called sabotage.

iPhone 6, 6s both sold more than their Plus version.

People want the cheapest price. Some people want a bigger size. But not many will pay extra for it. Those who do pay extra do that because they want the most expensive phone around. Make the iPhone 12 Pro more expensive than the iPhone 12 Pro Max and the Max would then sell less than the non Max.

People perceive more expensive as better/more classy. That’s it.

I expect the customers considering the S20(+) and XS/11 Pro (Max) are a lot less price sensitive compared to the mainstream market.

Customers may prefer bigger phones. However, not everyone may be willing to spend $100 more for a bigger phone (granted, probably just $4 per month on installment).

Looking at Apple's recent price adjustments and rumored iPhone 12 pricing, we can surmise that the majority of the mainstream is in the $600-700 price range.

The XR replaced both the iPhone 8 and 8+. While the XR might be the best seller among the XR/XS/XS Max batch, it's quite possible the it didn't sell as many units as the 4.7" & 5.5" models combined did for the previous period.

It will depend on the battery life, because I can't see many XR users who have adjusted to their screen size, replacing their phone for one which is significantly smaller and possibly has worse battery life. For many people once you get used to the bigger screen its hard to go back. And a lot of users with phone older than that will have jumped over to the SE. Considering the rumoured baseline of 128gb, the rumoured 749 price point of the 12 max is good value compared to the 11/XR, though the 12 is of course lower. I will go out on a limb and predict in terms of sales it'll be.

12 max>12 pro max>12>12 pro.

I just don't see the 12 Pro Max selling more than the 12 for the simple reason that fewer people can afford it.

Mind, I see more iPhone 8 or older users upgrading to the 5.4" iPhone 12. Unless they still hate the size, I just don't see XR and 11 users going back to a smaller device.

I like my SE very much and prefer the older design with home button. However, it can't be denied that there are probably plenty more Apple customers who would prefer a change in aesthetics at this point in time. Despite the significant performance and feature improvements, there are probably a lot who don't view the upgrade from 6 to SE as being "worth it" because the SE2 more or less looks the same as their old device.

I think that 128gb 12 pro 6,1” will be sweet spot for many if they want to upgrade in few years so...

12 pro > 12 > 12 max > 12 pro max

Screen resolution for all models, good riddance 720p screens. 😊

Because a quirk of OLED is that the resolution needs to be higher to get the same quality, so it will be bumped to 1080 and over. Amazing twist of fate. Otherwise I could see Apple sticking with ~720 on LCD phones forever.

I like OLED, but the flipside to this news is goodbye to the best LCDs in the industry and all Apple's R&D in LCD leading to it.

The rumored SE max will most likely have a 1080p lcd panel.

Can’t see Apple switching all their iPads over to oled, they’ll most likely keep using lcd panels in their non pro iPad models.

Actually, I don’t see Apple using OLED in the iPad line upat all. It’s been heavily rumored mini LED is the next transition, and I assume micro LED will be migrating towards the Apple Watch and iPhone displays within three years. OLED technology is reaching a point where it’s not really ‘new technology‘ and the battery conservation is sufficient, But with internal advancements consuming more battery, mini LED is the future for the iPad.
