There’s always something better around the corner that’s for sure. Next year who knows could be 48mp iphone/8K and Touch ID And suddenly it will make people upgrade it again.
Yes. And it def seems possible that next year is punch hole/48mp and maaaaaaybe TouchID. If that's the case then it pretty much makes the 13 obsolete.
I did see one YT vid saying that punch hole may not come next year and they'll stick with the smaller notch for one more year, but who knows.

The alternative to a notch with current tech would be:

  • Thicker bezel
  • Punch-hole
  • Under-screen
Am I missing anything? Personally, I don't mind having a notch. I treat it as a top bezel that is carved out to have more screen space to display extra information.
I think Apple is definitely keeping some kind of notch until they can do under-screen Face ID.

If they wanted to go down the hole punch out for a camera like so many others have done then they’d have done that years ago.

For better or worse, Apple always does these things differently. And I certainly don’t see them dropping Face ID unless something better than both Face ID and Touch ID comes around.

Yah I agree. It’s fine I like how it distinguishes the iPhone from android.

MacRumors so is gonna melt down when they keep any semblance of a notch. I want to see people here ranting about it.
That’s the thing about iPhones though -the notch is now a part of the iPhone’s design aesthetic and silhouette. How are we going to easily distinguish iPhones from other smartphones once it’s just another edge-to-edge display with no notch or punch hole camera?

I usually upgrade my iPhone every year, but I think I’m going to run my iPhone 13 Pro Max into the ground. I hate to use the f-word, but there are a few features that will make these models exceptionally nice and, in some cases, truly “future-proof.”
  • Finally a 120hz display
  • WiFi 6E, the X60 modem, and possibly even Bluetooth 5.2
  • Huge batteries (relatively speaking)
I think these Pro models are going to be really nice, well-rounded phones that have the potential to last a very long time. Next year’s periscope lens is really going to tempt me because it seems super useful, but I think I’ll be able to do without it. I’ve been waiting for a model worth holding on to and this seems to be it. Would be interested to hear you guys’ thoughts on this.
Yeah I agree. I'd add to that list "(finally usable) ultra-wide camera". The wide angle is great but the picture quality in scenes other than broad daylight has been... mediocre at best.

I’m probably the only one, but I don’t like the hole punch and would prefer the reduced notch.

Same. IMO Apple is the only company that managed to make a non-ugly notch. The hole punches just look so weird. Obviously I’d still rather not have a notch but at least Apple being Apple was able to get the dimensions right.

I feel exactly the same way. Even if they have a no notch, hole punch iPhone, I would still buy it.

My launch iPhone 7 JB 128GB is still going strong. It’s almost 5 years old. Hmm. It’s been an excellent phone to hold on to. I don’t get why everyone is so wasteful upgrading every year or two. I’m making sure I get my $749 out of this thing and I think I have!!! I do admit I REALLY want 120hz but if it’s only on the bigger phones I might have to wait. A mini with 120hz is what I’m waiting for. Might be awhile or never!!
Many of us want the latest tech which is why we upgrade every single year as things move so fast.

My parents & family inherit my 'old' devices, so nothing goes to waste.

Really? My launch day iPhone X is at 90%. Only reason why I’m even replacing it is because the screen is cracked and it’s messing with the Face ID.
I just got a new battery for my 8 Plus. Should be good for another 2 years.
in Chiang Rai Thailand they charged me $45!!! If my GF took it in it would of been $30 My Bad!!! Great Place to Retire! _0002138.jpg

Just heard from my Uncle Sal. He is hanging out at local Apple Store. Says place is hopping!

My whole family will be getting the 13.

As long as they don’t use the same crappy batteries they used in the 12 series. The fast wear on these is insane. There are some of us who are already close to the 80% mark (fortunately not me, I’m at 93%, but that’s still not great for a device not even a year old).

I’ve noticed substantial improvement based off my iPhone 11 Pro and X. My 12 pro is now at 99% after 3 and a half months which can’t be said with the other two. My iPhone 11 Pro was at 99% after a month and a half and my X took only a month.

My XS Max I had to charge twice as frequently was at 85% after two years. My 12 Pro Max I ordered on launch day is down to 91%

My 12 Pro Max was at 98% in June and it’s been in free fall since.

Not worth upgrading from a 12 pro max.

120hz is useless on a small display.

wifi is already fast enough, 5G is a gimmick so they can sell more phones, no need for it on mobile phones.

Always nice to have a bigger battery, my 12 pro max is good enough when it comes to battery life.

I’ll be keeping my 12 pro max for another year, unless apple has some surprises in store for us.

Amen. I don’t need 120hz panel. 5G isn’t a gimmick it offer lower latency and higher speeds. I notice a double the increase in speed in 5G vs LTE at home. I use around 400GB of data per month and speed and latency is important especially if I’m using hotspot.

Wait, what? Why would 120hz be useless on a small display? Everyone I know who’s ever upgraded from a 60hz Android phone to a 120hz Android phone has found the difference to be very noticeable and loved it.

The benefits of WiFi 6 and WiFi 6E have very little to do with speed.

Meh. Idc about 120hz it is yet another battery drain. Idc about it on the iPad or the android devices I’ve tried it on.

I find it to be very noticeable on the iPad Pro and I really enjoy it, but my parents can’t really tell the difference. 🤷‍♂️

Okay disregard this thread it looks like the iPhone 14 models are going to be able to communicate with satellite internet providers such as GlobalStar and that’s too useful of a feature to pass up because it could essentially save you from getting lost in an area with no service.

I’m never going to be able to pass up an upgrade smh 🤦‍♂️
Okay if anyone cares I actually changed my mind. I’m going to hold on to my 13 Pro Max for a long time, which is way more satisfying than upgrading every year anyway. It’s just such a good phone. I’ve been waiting for 120hz for years and yes it is as good as I thought it’d be. At this point there are only 3 things that I still want from my phone: wifi 6E, a pericope camera, and emergency satellite connectivity. But I can live with being limited 3x optical zoom, and I don’t really put myself in situations where I could get lost without cell service. Regarding wifi 6E we are just so far off from wifi 6E routers being widespread.

Truthfully, no one needs to upgrade every year and never understood why people upgraded from the x to Xs (not the max), but it is a free society. I kept my Xs max for 3 years and probably could’ve kept if for 3 more but I wanted new features. I will keep this for 3 years I bet, unless it’s another 11-12pro kind of upgrade then I’ll keep it longer.

a bigger iPhone would make me break the upgrade cycle and upgrade asap

X to XS is definitely a perplexing upgrade. I went from X to XS Max because I was super excited about the idea of a big Apple OLED screen. Don’t really remember any meaningful upgrades other than the size lol

I understand that one, I almost upgraded to the x but decided to hold off for a year. What phone are you using currently?

I’m using the 13 Pro Max and after upgrading 4 consecutive years I’m finally going to hold on to this phone for a long time. Wasn’t as expensive as it sounds because I could reliably fetch $800+ for my old phone on eBay
