Chiming in... I'm having the same problem on my 14 pro. It has only happened ONCE, but interestingly enough, I wasn't even using the camera. I actually wasn't using the phone at all. I took it off the magsafe charger and the camera module started rattling very loudly for maybe 2 or 3 seconds and stopped on its own. Really hoping this is only a software issue (and that the camera sensor isn't going to get damaged if this keeps happening...)

For me it happened for about 30 seconds. I’m also concerned about impact on the senzor itself, it looks like the driver looses control of the electro-magnetic coils, and oscillates in a loop of some sorts, but it is pretty aggressive. At first I thought it was the haptic engine, that’s how intense the buzzing was.

Why doesn’t everyone with this issue just have a replacement sent out instead of hoping? I sent a recording of it and straight away said when do you want a replacement for!

Mine doesn’t have the shaky camera but I do here buzzing/white noise from the back microphone (when put next to my ear) when using the back camera.

When using instagram and opening the cam there is a slight click.

Do we know if this is normal?

Which way of contacting the support did you choose? I am currently talking to the Twitter  Support, sent them screen records and everything, and all they say is that this is software-based and they wouldn’t want me send my phone in… :/

But I really would like my phone to be turned in since I am concerned that the damage now has already been done inside the camera…

Apparently the iPhone 13 has the same „issue“. So I guess this „next-to-ear-sound“ is normal. But definitely the loud camera shaking.

Because the issue is so widespread that replacement devices will probably have the same issue until whatever software bug that is causing it is fixed. Don't want to go through the hassle of swapping to a new device only for it to have the same issue.

I went through the apple support via out text messages. Basically a live chat. I selected ‘recent order’ explained what’s happening, they put me through to a tech guy who asked me to run the tests via settings. He said all was fine isn’t a software issue so it will be hardware issue. Put me back through to support team who arranged for a courier to collect this one and once collected a new one will be dispatched. I’m on holiday though Tuesday so nice I still have this for 2 weeks and saves me from the worry of new phone phobia!! Give me a shout if you need any more help

Yeah agree but they’ve offered it to me so just in case

do agree with you. But I don’t think we should just accept it for something that costs 1,000+ they told me replacements get priority over new orders so shouldn’t be more than 2-3 days without a phone.

I'm seeing the same issue on my 14 pro. I can only get it to happen when opening snapchat so I'm not convinced it's a hardware issue at this time.
I haven’t ran into the issue since I backed up my phone and factory reset it.

I’ll wait for some updates, in any chance this is hardware, i’m waiting the 59 days to ensure i get a replacement from another (newer) batch. But my bets are on software since no one reported any issues with the native camera app. It’s all happening when using 3rd apps.

But can you hear the white noise/static on the native camera app if you hold up the mic to your ear?

Same issue here! Spoke to apple support, they said IT IS a hardware issue and will replace my phone with a new one. Annoyingly I’m going away Tuesday for 2 weeks! Luckily they are extending the return period to 30 days so will arrange when back.
Surprised it would be a hardware issue if it doesn’t happen in the built-in camera app. I’m waiting for an Apple system update before getting a replacement. Or it could just happen again, assuming it’s software.

Can confirm you can hear white noise or buzzing coming from near the rear camera on my 14 Pro. Happens in any camera app, including the actual camera. Can only hear it when you put your ear right next to the camera though - hasn’t been loud and the viewfinder hasn’t been vibrating.

Apparently it did it on the 13 Pro too but I traded it in so I can’t tell.

Don’t know whether to ask for a replacement or wait for a software update.

I just tested my iPhone 14 Pro (Deep Purple / 256GB) in Instagram, Snapchat and TikTok. Zero issues with the camera. I'm using iOS 16.0.1.

The slight buzzing/humming noise is there (when you put the ear few mm from camera), but that's normal. I still have a Galaxy Note 9 (my old phone) and the noise when you are using the camera is also present there.

No rattle today so far but I did get it Friday and Saturday when I opened Snapchat. Was able to get a video of it. Sure sounds like the OIS banging around+ some sort of interference.

I'm also hearing the light static noise and buzzing/humming when putting my ear next to the camera module while being in the stock camera app - the issue with this is that i can actually also hear these noises when playing back recorded video.

Apparently this indeed appears to be somewhat "normal" as i've found countless similar reports here and online wrt. it happening with, e.g., iPhone 13 models.
The solution would be to deactivate the stereo sound recording, but why do i have to deactivate a feature to be able to properly record video audio?

I'd expect any replacement device to have the same "issue" (but maybe to varying degrees?)

Furthermore, when opening the camera app within Instagram i can as well sometimes hear a slight (single) clicking/snapping sound coming from the camera.

Yep. The noise is there on all iPhones. I’s just the way electro-magnets work, the lens is a very small resonator and the coils that controll AF/OIS induce magnetic fiels on floating objects, hence creating a miniature speaker effect. Check out how AF works on miniature cameras, it’s the same idea as a speaker, but you repleace the cone with the lens.
On larger cameras like dslr of mirorless, you have a step by step motor in the lens, movin the elements in and out, cannon actually has amazingly silant motors specially designed for this.

Same here. First time it happened was when I just normally took it off the charger and the phone started going crazy even tho it was just in a lock screen and not in any app. Second time was when I opened Snapchat and it instantly stopped when I closed Snapchat.
