For the maybe 2 screens I’ve replaced over the years, think money wise I might be ahead just paying out of pocket

Apple didn’t make apple care to lose money ;)
Well it costs around £300 for a screen replacement for an X. Did you go to Apple for an OEM panel or did you save money with a third party repair? I would always go OEM with my replacement parts. Never caused any damage to my iPhones though and have been using them since 2016.

So I only entered the “apple cosmos” in 2018 when I got my first Apple product, the iPhone X. I then got the XS, the 11P and now the 14P.

I’ve always had AppleCare, I’ve always had cases and screen protectors and never had a serious damage.

A few weeks ago I decided to go caseless on the 14P - only screen protector and a matte body skin to avoid the scratches on the bezels.

This is no joke, it’s a life changer. These phones are so damn beautiful and it feels so damn good to pick it up without a case. I am still terrified of a drop but I want to take my chances (still got AppleCare) and just appreciate this piece of art. I’m way too anxious in my life in general - I’ll take good care of it but I need this now.

Terrible idea.

I dropped my iPhone 13 yesterday for the first time from around chest height onto a hardwood floor and the device made a massive thud as it struck the ground. Luckily I had a case on which resulted in zero damage or scratches. If my phone was naked, I am pretty certain the glass back would have cracked as it landed square on the floor.
I can't even count how many times my iphone 12 pro max fell on the granite floor in front of our front door... and... nothing. Again, there are situations where far less has to happen to cause damage. I'm also in favor of a skinless use to have the full experience.

I always went without naked until I got toddlers. It doesn’t matter how careful I am when those little monsters are running around

I went caseless with my 11 pro max for a few years, and I loved being caseless! I never dropped it from my hands, though it slipped out of my scrub pockets plenty of times onto concrete, tiled floors, and wooden floors. The phone never shattered, although plenty of glass screen protectors have. These phones are built incredibly well!

This year, I purchased an apple leather case for nights out and adventurous outings. I’m uaing it until my Sena sleeve arrives. Then I’m going to go caseless with a glass screen protector again. I have to say, it is nice being able to be a little more careless with the phone while it’s in the leather case. But nothing beats the feel of a naked iPhone!
Do you have a link to the sena sleeve? So all you use is a sleeve.

I guess you are very lucky as it has been proven that these phones are easily damaged. I wouldn’t want to use my phone naked anyway even if I was able to avoid damaging the glass panel and glass back as I detest chips, scratches and dents on the frame of my phone.

Who would want to have proven that they break easily? I think no more or less than smartphones of the same quality. Anyone who actually has a problem with scratches should use a case. But I still say, that life is more beautiful naked :)

They are made of glass, unlike phones prior to the iPhone 8, which is why they are fragile.

They are no more or less fragile than similar phones by other brands as almost all phones have glass backs nowadays.

You are correct that phones are more beautiful without cases however that only lasts as long as the phone is pristine. After one drop, it’s no longer beautiful and perfect.

Honestly, its a terrible idea. And I wouldn't want to either. A good case actually makes the phone easier to hold and use. The iPhone itself has become too unbalanced. It's too thin for how tall it is, with a top heavy camera module that makes it very awkward.

A good solid case fixes all of that. And don't think for a second that Apple is actually designing the phone to be used without a case.

First post ever in this forum!

No case, high tech glass screen protector and AC+. Just bought a 14 PM and it will be no different.

BUT, once in a while I will have it in a case if I’m doing something more risky than usual. Most of the time though, I’m just rocking it as it was designed and intended. Sure, since my first iPhone, 3GS, there have been some scratches and dings, and had 1 screen cracked on my 5s, but what an enjoyable ride it has been with having the true thing in the hands. When I buy the phone I’m deciding that I’m in for the whole amount, and whatever I can sell it for is a bonus.

My new iPhones don't leave the store until they're in a new silicone case and have a tempered glass screen protector installed using that cool jig they have at the Apple Stores. And I also get AppleCare+. Overcautious? Perhaps. But I like it!

New routine; watching Succession and Ted Lasso makes me go case-less. Then see someone with a case and pop one back on! (Usually the Caudabe Sheath). I’m SO easily influenced!

I always use a glass screen protector on my iPhones, I do have a case which I use now & again if I’m doing anything that carries a higher risk of accidents. Also have applecare+

The weight & smooth grippy glass make handling the 14 plus case less pretty easy, just very careful with my phone 😂

I’ve been using my phones caseless since I was still using Motorola phones in the pre-iPhone era. All my iPhones (3G, 4S, 7 and now 13 Pro) have been caseless, and I’ve never yet had an accident, touch wood. I just think caseless phones look nicer, whats the use of having a phone made out of premium metals and glass if you can’t look at it?

Don’t think I could trust myself to do that lol I had to go and buy camera cap covers for my 14 pro even cos I’m scared I’m gunna damage the lens 😂
