So any time you leave the house, the phone has to be in a case?
What do you consider danger places, JM?
Hiking. Outdoor work. Loose pants (workout shorts). Working out. Basically anything active where I don’t want to have to baby it, or want to be able to place it on any surface without worry of scratches (outdoors mostly).

Office work. Chilling. Grocery shopping. Going out to eat. Anything low activity. Those are places I don’t need a case.

Well, I started off putting case on when out (office etc) but on Friday at my brothers wedding, 1/2 way through the evening I took the case off. Really starting to dislike cases. It's taken me years but really do prefer the iPhone without now.

Can anyone of you guys/gals who went caseless with a 13Pro or 14Pro tell me how problematic scratches are on the metal frame bit?

Does anyone know the brand IQShield? I used to get a skin for the metal part and then put a screen protector on but I can‘t get a decent skin anymore online so I was wondering if I should go caseless and skinless. I do have a 14 Pro Purple and AC+. Can you buff those scratches out when reselling?

Errr, you can’t buff out paint chips and scratches. Only silver iPhones can be buffed out because the sides are bare metal.

Caseless. Off into Liverpool City Centre tomorrow. Thought of putting a case on but, Why? No need. Not going "crazy", just shops and something to eat. Funny how you think that when going somewhere you consider putting a case on....! Also, Apple Store Liverpool One and have AC+ so all covered!

As the old saying goes, it is better to have gone caseless and dropped it, then to have never gone caseless at all.

Enjoy the freedom, the lightness, and the luxurious touch of a caseless phone. 👍

Is it? I can’t think of a single advantage for me to not put a case on my iPhone. It’s not like the phone feels nice to hold with it’s sharp edges and I’d break it within days.

Terrible idea.

I dropped my iPhone 13 yesterday for the first time from around chest height onto a hardwood floor and the device made a massive thud as it struck the ground. Luckily I had a case on which resulted in zero damage or scratches. If my phone was naked, I am pretty certain the glass back would have cracked as it landed square on the floor.

Last one I had a case on was a 6S, but it was because it had a cheap soft aluminum body

Having a well built phone and putting a cheap case on it doesn’t make sense to me, especially back with the beautiful feeling X

I normally just run a nice screen protector

The 6S had an aluminium back and last I checked, aluminium is more durable than glass.

It is, but it also feels and looks cheap compared to SS and glass, and for me at least the only dings I have gotten on my phones have been on the edges, with the SS it often isn’t a factor m

The 6S does feel cheaper than the newer designs but the newer phones are objectively less durable than the 6S along with any previous iPhone. There are users here who have went through 2-3 replacements in one year because of the glass backs. I would never dream of not using a case with my regular 13 because it’s such a fragile phone.

6S also felt cheaper than the 4S

Everyone is different, but I’m no soft shoed office worker, I’m outdoors and around machines all the time, I think in all my iPhone days, with all but one being caseless, I maybe replaced 2 screens, never broke the back glass, and edge wise any scuffs were hardly noticeable

Premium does not mean more durable. I agree that these newer phones have a more premium feel than the 6S along with older iPhones. They are objectively less durable though. For instance, a cheap $20 Alcatel, which is made from plastic and is similar to a Nokia 3310 is more durable than my iPhone 13. You can constantly drop those things on hard surfaces and not observe any damage whereas one bad drop will resign your iPhone X to the scrap heap.

Phones that have glass to the front and glass to the back are the least durable devices and you cannot argue against that. The fact that your X has SS sides means very little when the front and back are made of glass.

The 6S is a tank compared to your X. I used to see people drop those phones all the time and they’d be fine because of their metallic backs. I used a case on my 6S anyway because I wanted to keep mine pristine.

AppleCare+ was never really big thing until iPhones were given wireless charging. I refuse to purchase needless insurance so I use a case on all my devices.

I have dropped my 13 once which happened 2 days ago. It was from a 2ft height and it landed square on a hardwood floor with a massive thud. If I hadn’t used a case, I am certain the glass back would have had a nice spider web design.

I drop mine a couple of times a week on average. It’s just the hazards of daily life for me. I also have young children so you can imagine they are not exactly careful.

You have any medical things?

A few times a week seems excessive, even if it was dropping your keys

HA! Yeah when I replaced my screen like a year ago, it was in my pocket, took my jacket off and as I was putting my jacket on a friggin low seat it fell out, like maybe 2’ and cracked lol

No, just a busy person who rushes around a lot. I wouldn’t have a very functional iPhone if I didn’t have a case on it as these things are far too fragile.

Understood, but slow down, if you’re dropping stuff that much

Old saying, slow is pro, you’d probably actually get more done and have less stress :)

Shows how fragile these things are!

Accidents happen and we can’t always baby our phones when we are busy living our lives. That’s why AC+ is so important if you don’t use a case because you’ll probably make at least one claim per year.

I would just use a case though as AC+ is more expensive than my entire building and contents insurance for a year, hahah.

For the maybe 2 screens I’ve replaced over the years, think money wise I might be ahead just paying out of pocket

Apple didn’t make apple care to lose money ;)
