I plan to squeeze a third year out of my 14 Pro Max. I just don't see the draw here. Rather it's time for an Apple Watch upgrade.
I am doing it myself, it's time next year. Besides 2024 It's an Apple watch and iPad upgrade season. I like the possibilities of what is being done in the future of IOS etc. No need to upgrade this year.

Totally agree.
There’s almost no sense to upgrade every 2nd year.
I usually do a 4 year upgrade cycle mainly because that’s when the battery dies.

Unless you have specific use-case and need for cameras, frequent upgrades are money thrown away.

Glad to see someone with common sense around.
I went 4s - 7plus, 7plus to 11Pro Max, and 11Pro Max to 14 (last one because battery reached 81% before trade in)
Maybe you wanna give that phone to your kid/friend/cousin and they'll be good for 2 years or more and you get the new one? I almost never sell me used phone, I just give it away to people I care for or sell it for cheap.

Ah I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds the standard main lens to be too wide.
I just read that the main on iPhone 14 actually is 26mm, but my point still stands - it should be narrower, about 30mm. 20/30/70 would be better.

If it was up to people that upgrade every 5 to 7 years or more Apple would close shop.

I have the 14PM and deff see upgrades for my needs. The higher screen brightness for sure! I will be able to see my screen better outdoors! YAY! Oh, and the better UW Chip also!
What ever the brightness is in warm/hot weather it will dim the screen and you cannot see anything.

I was considering it but my kids are 12 and 13 and I ain't poisoning their brains with devices. :)
When they are 16 then I will look into it.

For about a decade, cellphones just kept getting smaller and smaller, until the keys got impossible to type on. Then came the touchscreen phones, and the shrinking trend reversed. Now it seems evey generation of every phone, iOS, Android or whatever, has to be larger than the last.

What I'm waiting for is the SE that is rumored to debut in 2025, to replace the 2020 SE I have now. As an avid bicyclist, I need a phone small enough to fit sideways in one of my jersey's back pockets. That way, it doesn't fall out when hitting a bump or other surface imperfection. Best case, it lands on a soft surface and isn't damaged. Bad case, hits pavement and breaks. Worst case, you don't notice it fell out, and the wrong person finds it.
You do realise that the SE you are waiting for is the exact same size as the iPhones that have been released for the past 5 years right?

Not sure if anyone asked this before, but did the pill cutout get bigger with iPhone 15 models? It looks like the one on iPhone 14 Pro is tiny bit smaller.

Normally I would be sticking with my 14 pro max for 2-3 more years, but my wife has an iPhone X that has become barely usable. I may use it as a good excuse to hand over my 14pro max to her and get a brand new 16pro max :D

Well, it's good to know that someone on this board has the inside information to determine that.

Quadlock case and bike fix - perfect solution - worked for me for last 6-7 years.
I've seen it. But I prefer the phone in a pocket instead. It prevents me from looking at the phone while riding, which is about the most dangerous thing a road cyclist can do. If I get a ring, I pull over before looking at it.

I admit I laughed hard at this:

‌iPhone 14‌ Pro‌iPhone 16 Pro‌
Surgical-grade stainless steel chassisAerospace-grade titanium chassis

I never considered doing surgery on anyone with my phone before, but I never expected I could one day send it in deep space.

I waited 5 years to get a 15 Pro max. I think I can wait 5 more years for the next upgrade... unless I get abducted by aliens. Then surgery and aerospace grade stuff might come in handy, but I think I might have other issues at this point.

I came from 12 Pro Max to 15 Pro Max and I am not seeing anything that is greatly improved. 12PM Pictures were as great as 15PM which I can compare it even now in my Photos App. Actually, my iPhone 3GS (3 MP shooter) took pictures in December 2010 still looking great in my Photos album and I still use it for my various Social Media profile pictures. iPhone cameras are excellent irrespective of the edition or version you have. Don’t fall for the Camera upgrade slogans.
