I’m the curmudgeon on this. They will likely introduce nothing that will be of any real interest to the vast majority of users.

The "Apple Intelligence" features will be used by everyone. For one example I just tried out the "clean up" feature in Photos. Trivial to use, and something that will be used millions of times a day.

Edit: I just noticed that the post this replies to was from before the "AI" was announced. Presumably the poster will soften that opinion.

I'm really annoyed that they're getting bigger. My 13 Pro is already uncomfortably large in jeans pockets. I miss my 5.8" 11 Pro, that was perfect.
Oh brother—the Minis didn’t sell and it seems no matter what Apple does to suit market tastes, there’s people like this who basically still want an iPhone 4S sized phone from 13 years ago because I remember when the 5 dropped and the complaints with that!!

I'll wait and see what the impact of "Apple Intelligence" is in the real world. Still happy with my 14 Pro Max. With my battery max still at 95%, I'll likely wait until the 17PM. My 12.9" iPP from 2020 will likely get updated later this year.

I will upgrade from my 12 pro max to 16 pro max. I am using my phone for meetings at work a lot and the battery improvements are very useful for me (apart from all the other changes).

Same here, got 12P and i am happy with it, pics not crampled with artificial nonsense, still does what i require. If the main upsell point will be ApIn, and people will be amazed by cleanup their pics then is something wrong with whole perspective. well, stop taking bs pics, you will not need to rely on this. From tech point view, not convinced by 16 at all.. but thats just me and my humble opinion frens .)

My 14 is on a three year plan, unless something crazy happens, I'm note getting a new phone until the 17, and even then it's not a given.

I upgraded from the 8 Plus, which is still a very serviceable phone. I only upgraded because the cost of getting Apple to fix the blown speakers and a new battery was high enough that I didn't deem it worth it, so became my wife's backup, so she could use Find My... when I was riding my motorbike, and some shared iCloud files.

I expect I will have upgraded by the iPhone 19.

Dad, mom, 3 kids. Have 14P. Wife have 15P. We’re using for pro video without need for anything very fancy (no bird photo or macro/night/…). Everything on tripod, with pro lighting. I still have my Canon 1DX and 5D3. Other than lenses and ISO, everything else is blown away by our current phones. With color correction and proper grading, I don’t care about the sensor quality that much.

I would normally skip a generation or two, but having a 15 or 16 means the same USB-C ecosystem for both. Then, it’s trickle down economics for older phones to kids, so it’s not lost. Youngest has a 8+, it’s getting old no matter for modern apps/games.

On 14 to 16, I am seriously considering the 16 Pro Max for the first time for the better optics, while I’m at it, even if I am more a Mini guy in general.

Photographer here. Damn it apple stop with the 120mm lens and give us usable focal lengths
13mm, 24mm, 28mm, 35mm, and 120mm is an insane hole in the most needed focal lengths. 13, 24,35, 50 ,75 would be so much better. 120 is too long for hand holding video. and not a normal need,
But that's for antique/vintage cameras that use only a single lens at a time. Doesn't the iPhone combine multiple exposures from all 3 cameras using computational photography, with some amount of interpolated or ML or even generative AI created pixels thrown in the mix, depending on zoom level?

As an iPhone 7 user I waited for the notch to be smaller and pulled the trigger on the iPhone 13 pro. That being said, I'll probably wait until the Dynamic Island gets smaller to upgrade from 13 pro.

Isn't Apple promoting climate protection and making the earth greener? So I decided to use my iPhone 14 Pro until it turns obsolete to save the world; also, I love taking pictures, but I hardly see the technology improvement in mobile phone photo shooting in recent years; people still take crappy photos; if people love about the capture the moment and concern about the quality of the images, just get a regular mirrorless camera, it works much much better than a cellphone.

I am still rocking a 12 pro max at 84% battery health. I have no interest in the 16 pro max’s boring colours, & AI.

Thus I am holding out for the 17 pro max, with the hopeful rumoured design changes, increased ram, triple 48pm lens and better cooling structure.

Which is better? Surgical-grade or aerospace-grade?

I wouldn’t want to fly to Mars on a rocket made of scalpels, but I also wouldn’t want to be operated on using random parts of the space shuttle. It’s a tough decision to make when choosing to buy a new iPhone.

Just waiting for the regular models to finally have ProMotion so I can ditch the Pro model. Besides the display, there's nothing else I really need or want on the Pros.

Good comparison. For those with older generation iPhones, the 16 might be a good update.

good comparison.

As expected the new phone is measurably better in every way- hardware wise. But we already knew that.

The detail will be whether the software wows us enough and whether those same software updates will trickle down to older phones.
