There isn't much left for iPhone to improve after 13. These can happen:

-faster cpu but no one can feel the different
-on screen touch I'd
-change the look of the phone again
-more color
-3x zoom becomes 4x
-little bit bigger size sensors but not much since iphone cannot be so thick. 13 sensor size become so big that iphone cannot get any thicker than this in future.
-more not so useful software stuff like cinema mode video
-they will claim having even better camera AI but 13 camera AI is already very mature after few generation improvement.

All of these are not that useful, I can keep using old iphone and will switch to cheap 13 years later no problem, 13 will be the last generation with big hardware upgrade like real bigger sensor and 120hz refresh rate monitor.

The main sensor size is little bit smaller than S21 Ultra 5G. Well the camera AI of Apple is much better and stable than Samsung.

camera AI is much more important than little bit bigger sensor size, so 13 pro max photo is better than s21 ultra. iPhone always has better video than Samsung. My family member uses 13 pro and photos are seriously good.

Plenty of big/noticeable upgrades Apple can still introduce in the coming years...

- Genuine 2 day battery life on a single full charge
- A flip iPhone (as someone who loves smaller phones and coming from a 13 mini I can't wait for this)
- Completely port free design reliant on 100% wireless charging/bluetooth headphones
- Completely notch/pinhole free design (14 rumoured to have pinhole so still not full screen)
- Under screen touch id
- Always on display

That's just maybe over the next 3 years.

Yes definitely the pros have the best phone cameras on the planet right now. I don't take many pics so I didn't need the Pro .i got a free13 trading my 3y o XS iN so I'm happy

Thats good, I am using 11 now and will eventually get 13. Pro is too heavy and thick for me and 13 photo quality is good enough for me.

I agree these are possible in next few years but I don't think any of these are very useful for most people. flip version may becomes the "supreme pro max" version.

Just making it thinner and LIGHTER + getting rid of that big and clunky camera bump would be a HUGE improvement for me!!!

Adding Touch ID and getting rid of the notch would also be nice.

I've gotta say, I agree with the OP.
The iPhone has become such a mature product that there isn't a lot to do anymore to give users improvements that they will feel in their day to day life.

At this point all I want over the iPhone 13 Pro are :
Notchless design
Bumpless design
Touch ID under display
More resistant (I scratched my iPhone 12 - the first scratch on such a device in over 13 years now - don't even know how it happened)
Periscope lens for a great camera zoom
Maybe Center Stage for phones - if they don't support it already

How is a two day battery life not useful?
Always on display is also useful if you just want to glance at something without handling your phone.
100% wireless charging is useful if they can improve the charge speeds, saves having to plug in/unplug cables.

They just increase the battery size even it makes phone heavier. That means they cannot find out a way to make it more battery effective.

Always on displays has been discussed for years but never apply to iPhone. They just don't do it that way.

100% wireless charge makes battery dies much faster which they don't want to have that reputation. They earn a lot by selling iphone unique plug power cable which they would never want to stop.

The next big thing will come in the form of wearables (AR glasses).

In this context, Apple doesn't need you keep buying / upgrading iPhones, it just needs you to keep using them, and they can continue to earn from their users in the form of additional accessories, services and app downloads. It's perfectly fine if you are currently using an iPhone 12 or 11 and don't feel like upgrading. Heck, Apple likely isn't losing sleep from people still using the iPhone 7 or 8 out there.

Second, consider that there are currently more than a billion active iPhone users. The iPhone doesn't need to be such a compelling upgrade that every iPhone user rushes out to upgrade on day 1. Apple simply cannot meet that sort of demand. Instead, Apple is likely operating under the assumption that the average iPhone user will hold on to their phone for 2-4 years, and the current iPhone only needs to target them.

So you are both right in that I don't expect future generations of iPhones to sport "WOW!" upgrades, and also wrong in that Apple is still able to add new features and functionality to the iPhone by way of accessories (eg: Apple Watch, airtags, even the Apple Card), services and annual software upgrades that come together to offer a cohesive experience that the competition will find hard-pressed to match.

Here are wild wild and crazy ideas that they probably won’t do, but could. Showing there’s always room for more innovation

- 3D screen (without glasses). Surprised they haven’t done it already with Face ID being able to track your eye line.
- Wireless keyboard and monitor capabilities, enabling full PC like abilities.
- Like above but for more of a seamless Apple TV presentation experience.
- Built in thermometer.
- Hands free gestures
- Apple Pencil mini support, with or without a spot to store stylus
- Improved speaker output with Dolby Atmos
- True edge to edge, bevel free display
- Dual Screen, with display on the back
- Touch gestures via back of phone
- True wireless, non Qi based charging
- …and so forth

Supreme pro max you win the internet.

Maybe one day they will have a build-a-iPhone where you can build your own on their website. So if you want the notch, you got it. If you want the camera bump, you got it. If you don’t? Well, you got it. Lol

I hope no tech company hires anyone like you or else we're all in trouble for stagnation.

Its fine to justify the device we own today, but to dismiss things we haven't had implemented or havent even imagined is silly and limiting. Phones are not done evolving.

- Foldable screens
- Always on screen
- Center Stage selfie camera
- Future Battery tech
- Max size / Phablet differentiators
- Apple Pencil
- Lenses
- Periscope camera system for more reach

This argument has been made since the XS Max and it really serves no purpose beyond feeling good about the phone just purchased. So rather than dismissing the future then why not just accept that better things will continue to exist but we dont have to buy each version.
