I think it's not Apple handling the buybacks, it's a third party company that is just really well integrated, and they have determined the best price that keeps them in operation. When I turned in my MBP M1 pro for $950, it was some other company that received it and issued me a bunch of Apple digital gift cards. Anyway, there is a risk to buying back used product - who knows what hidden issues there are in your iphone or how badly you have treated it. The offered prices take into account that risk and the cost of running their operation. If you think you can get a better price on eBay, then sell it there.

I put in my two cents I recently traded my iPhone 14 for an iPhone 16e because my battery on my 14 went to heck and I just figured I would get the 16e as a temporary replacement for now when I traded my old phone of I only got $150 trade in for it Best Buy only offered $10 more for it am I bothered by this no just the way the things are like a new car I the value goes down every day 😐

Why didn't you replace the battery?

Just to say....

the price for second hnd iPhone 15 might be a little bit lower (= faster degrading) than for the iPhone 14 at the same time of its life-span, because the mistake to produce it with an Titanium-casing led to much higher tinner emperatures.
Titanium has only half the capacitty to transfer inner heat to the envirement (= to the outside of the iPhone 15).
This has led to electronical problems and downregulations to protect the processors, the SSD-Space and especially the battery.

I am sure that the reaction of apple to change the firmware is nothing different but further and earlier downregulation of the performance to prevent the iPhone 15 (especially the pro/Pro max versions) to overheat regularily and prevent catastrophic damage.

It is NOT by accident that apple went back from titanium to aluminium (with its double capacity to transfer heat) with the following iPhone-generations...

So if you buy a used iPhone 15 you can be nearly sure that this model has had much more often a dangerous overheating-problem. This not only if heavily used - no! Also because charging heats the battery a lot and the titanium blocked half of the capacity to transfer the heat of charging to the outside of the iPhone.

This might also be the case that there have been more problems with battery life than with other iPhone models that are produced with aluminium cases.

;)

I can only recommend to NOT purchase iPhones produced with titanium cases...

Your phone has lost 50% of its value because 18 months is an eternity in tech therefore a 2023 flagship is no longer considered cutting edge, your device is unlikely to be in ‘as new’ condition after being used for an extensive period of time and it’ll require a battery service from Apple which isn’t cheap.

Why didn't you replace the battery?
Apple would not do it I was at 82% battery so said the heck with it and just got a new phone mainly was ready to upgrade because I had switched pretty much all my Apple stuff to usbc standard and wanted to have one cable for everything

I have to say, as someone who had to replace their broken 11 Pro, this used 15 Pro is to me the first iPhone that somewhat deserves to be called „Pro“. I was always susceptible to micro stutters but this Pro Motion screen is a godsend, the outdoor brightness incredible and the bezels don’t bother me as much. Horizontal Face ID is often very handy and the DI good to have. The Ultra Wide camera is actually useful. The 3x telephoto very appreciated. USB C is a game changer in a household with an Android user, MacBooks and other recent electronics. The buttons feel better than they ever did on any previous iPhone. 5G is great. The speakers, so far, didn’t degrade with time. Loading times are a thing of the past for almost all apps. And 128gb base storage is a no brainer.
Yes, all of these things are basically only quality of life improvements, but after 4 years they add up to what should have been the first iPhone to actually be called „Pro“. I miss the feel and thickness of the 11 Pro though.
Thats quite interesting!
I once thought of upgrading to 15 Pro but was scared off by minor reports of phone overheating. At this point no sense to upgrade to 16, if 17 Pro turns to be awesome maybe this time.

Another thing why I would upgrade is square corners: imo they are much better than this rounded retro stuff.

As for USB C yes, it is a great thing. Fortunately or unfortunately, still got mostly lighting stuff at home😀 Tho have some USB C units and LOTS of original and great quality USB C cables that I would gladly use for charging.

As for the speakers - they are probably allright! Turns out 11 and 11 Pro were susceptible to debris collection. Cleaning takes 5 minute - a teardrop of pure ethanol on both speakers, brush with old toothbrush mildly, turn on the Sonic app to clean it out and it will be brand new.

And as for the storage - mine is maxed out 256gb. Was quite expensive at the time. Tho 128gb baseline on new devices is much welcome, as you noted

Yeah, mine surely does get warm at times, playing "Payback 2", which is a mildly graphics intense game, it gets so hot that I am worried about the battery, which also drains a whole lot quicker than it did playing the same game on my 11 Pro, don't know what all of that is about. Battery life also was never good, even with 100% battery health.
I always kept my speakers clean but eventually after 2 or 3 years there were some frequencies that sounded so shrill I stopped using them. Longterm I guess the "max speaker volume" setting might also help these retain their quality, will see. Glad to hear you're not one of those that never even think about cleaning their speakers and microphone grills and hen just complain about audio quality, I've recently had to explain to an ex Genius exactly that. Got a voice message the day after explaining his speakers sound like new :D

Just for the record, did Apple actively deny you service because the battery reads more than 79% remaining capacity or did you just figure they wouldn't do it? Or something else?

Well I’m sure you as well know what apples policy is Is on battery replacement is I went to Apple showed them my battery percentage and they said we can’t replace it because it was at 82% 🤨

I don’t know if I know, it seems to be a long standing „myth“ and discussion around here. Many people say they were denied service, many say they weren’t.
I agree that Apple should service any battery, as a compromise maybe only <90% ones, if the customer is willing to pay for the repair out of pocket. But apparently that’s not the case.
Anyway, I’m sorry to hear you’re one of those that didn’t get service.
