Weird, I can’t get my 14PM to look as washed out as the left one on the same settings

If you think there’s something wrong with it, why not go exchange it? Stores keep stock for exchanges. And Early Field Failures have a name because they exist.

Last thing: you haven’t recently just completed data xfer or something, right? They may throttle brightness when overheating etc.
I did the transfer a few hours ago so I doubt it's overheating - feels cool to the touch, same as the 14PM...

Anyone else noticed the 15 Pro Max brightness is only half that of the 14 Pro Max? First thing that caught my attention when I'd finished setting it up. On max brightness, the 15 is so much dimmer.

Photo is a bit rubbish as it was taken on my iPad, but you can clearly see the difference. Rather disappointing... :/

Which one is 15 PM?

Same here. My 14PM looks like the right one with brightness all the way up.
The washed out effect is from the awful camera on the iPad Pro overexposing the photo. I could probably adjust the exposure to darken the 14PM screen, but then the 15PM would be really really dark.

If the Apple models in the store are just as dim as mine, then I'll just have to turn the brightness all the way up to max to be able to read the display, but it just seems odd when they are supposed to have the same screens in them...

Is it me or..... 15 PM(Right) has a greenish tint on the greys like 13 pro max.
Looking at it here in person, and comparing it to the 14PM, I'd say it's got an ever so slight yellowish tint to it but otherwise seems OK. It's just the brightness is shockingly bad!

I had the same issue and was worried at first. But the new phone was just indexing/warm and lowered the screen brightness for that. 30 minutes to an hour after setting up the phone max brightness was normal compared to my 14 pro max

I had a friend restoring an iphone SE2 from iphone 8, and his screen was also really dim. He only reset settings without resetting data, and it was all fixed.

restore is funky.

For those who don't know how to hard reset:

Press the volume up and let go, followed by volume down and let go, then hold the power button and keep holding it until it reboots and the Apple logo shows. 👍

Having the same problem. 15PM looks like it’s in night shift (it’s not) and noticeably dimmer than 14PM. Finished installing/ indexing a few hours ago. Phone was hot at that time. Been cool for an hour at least.

Have tried the hard reset recommendation with the auto dimming off a few times and hasn’t changed anything. Still looks the same.

Will give it a day or so and see if it recovers or if anyone else has any ideas here to try.

Try reset-reset. The OS reset in settings, but keeping the data.

Settings --> General --> Transfer or reset iPhone --> reset --> Reset all settings .

I was blown away with how dark my 15 Pro was (compared to the 14 Pro) on both 50% brightness and 100%. Was able to fix it by turning off true-tone (which was defaulted to on after migration), then turning true tone back on. Now it's way brighter than my 14 pro. Before I couldn't even read things. It's an issue with the migration for sure. No need to reset settings etc... just toggle true tone off and then back on. I also restarted my phone a few times which could have fixed it in combination with toggling true-tone.

More info on how to do this here: https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/adjust-screen-brightness-color-balance-iph60ba71065/ios#:~:text=to turn True Tone on,True Tone on or off.

I hope this helps someone.

UPDATE: A hard reset, as recommended by Skrungemaster, fixed the issue. My odd looking grey colours and the face melting brightness are back to normal :)

I noticed this right away with my new 15 Pro Max. Very irritating. But I left it alone for a while and it got much better.

As someone else suggested, I think it’s because it was doing a metric ton of downloads, and the system decided to dim the screen to reduce power drain. (The phone was noticeably hot in my hand.)

Even my 13 pro max looks like the right picture (15 pro max) the left picture is definitively wrong, or the OP activated an accessibility feature he can't remember because there's definitively something wrong with his 14 PM screen. Its way too bright on area that supposed to be a very dark grey.

Thanks all!

Having this issue again today multiple times. Phone is never hot, was sitting on my table, turning off true tone, then back on fixes it immediately each time. Auto brightness is off in accessibility. Is it recurring for anyone else? Can't really read on the display after it happens. At least there is a short-term fix.

Hey all, new here but having the same issue. Try going to Accessibility>Display & Text Size>Reduce White Point. Toggle that off and watch what happens. Fixes the screen brightness issue for me.

Yup, absolutely the 14PM in OP's photos looks too bright on the gray UI elements - both my 13PM and 15PM look like the phone on the right, and are near identical in max brightness with auto brightness off (15PM slightly brighter).

Maybe they have an accessibility setting toggled on the old phone that hadn't correctly applied itself to the new phone - increased contrast, reduced white point, or both at once could result in those dark gray elements appearing weirdly bright. Hard reset may have gotten those to correctly apply.

Painful when you’re outside on a cool day, with a brand new rig, taking photos.. preview what you’ve taken.. dim. Open lightroom to edit light and colour.. dim..
