If I had a dime for every iPhone release that they predict will be a “super cycle”…

To me, the only real super cycle was the iPhone 6. That phone convinced even 5s users to upgrade in huge numbers due to larger screen. That has played out and I have yet to see any one specific iPhone after the 6 convince people in the same manner to upgrade from their current one-year old device. Not even 5G with the 12.
U forgot the iPhone X.

With not much of an upgrade for a lot of users, this year will be a hard sell for the iPhone but I expect it to sell well but not sold out everywhere like previous years
The 15 Pro Max will probably back order there seems to be a great deal more interest in it than previous 13/14 Pro Max due to the differences in the camera.

I don’t get the Type C obsession. I pick up a lightning cable and you know what it’s a lightning cable.

I pick up a Type C cable. What wattage is this cable? They don’t have anything on them that tell you so the more Type C cables you have the worse it gets. Is this a data cable or a charge only cable? Thunderbolt or USB 3.1 3.2 4.0?

Type C is a mess.

I also wouldn’t put it past Apple to say Type C phones won’t work with Type A CarPlay systems. There will be some lightning authentication that doesn’t work right and they will say get a new car.
I go the other way. Pick up a USB-C and it just works. I buy 10 Lightning cables on Amazon and only 8 work when they arrive, and within 2 months, all but 2 have stopped working. In 4 months, I am back on Amazon buying more cables.

The faux anger and not understanding inflationary pricing by apple fans is hilarious.

No one is forcing anyone to buy a newer phone when the one they use is likely perfectly fine. If it's too expensive don't buy it. A new iPhone isn't a human right

I don’t think people have a choice, they won’t be buying it as many will no longer be able to afford it. It must be frustrating for those due an upgrade but are now keeping their current phone or having to buy last years. Not the end of the world though and a very first world problem.

Current iPhone 14 Pro Max price points in the UK:

128GB - £1199
256GB - £1309
512GB - £1529
1TB - £1749

£220 price jump each tier up from the 256GB. Totally ridiculous, pulling prices from thin air again when NVMe prices are dropping drastically.

1TB should be the base memory at £999 and that's for the Pro Max model.
Yeah it's crazy if you want a higher tier storage. My current iPhone uses 312Gb out of 512, so I can't really go under 512.

This storage tier of the iPhone Pro is so expensive in Switzerland that the equivalent Samsung flagship, the S23 Ultra with 512Gb is $602 cheaper as I type this, so our US friends understand. This assuming no price increase for the 15 Pro, I'm just comparing the 14...

I am not defending Apple, but they are improving the phone in other areas titanium, the radio, the cameras and the storage so if you want those things 100 bucks doesn’t seem too outrageous. I have the 13 Pro Max 512 and will be waiting to buy a 15 promax when they become available used.
That may or may not be a fair argument for a price rise, but my point is that finally raising the base storage after many years to something slightly more sensible for a modern smartphone isn't a good reason alone when the cost of storage has been dropping.

Prices were jumping ridiculously even before inflation came into play.

If they had a worthy upgrade to justify the increases it wouldn’t be an issue. But everything inside an iPhone is old tech repackaged.

My brother lives in Switzerland and I’ve seen the crazy prices for general cost of living let alone tech purchases lol.

iPhone X was not a super cycle it was the beginning of Tim Cooks sky high pricing policy. It all began with this.

It was full of old tried and tested tech with no justification for any price increase from the previous generation.

There's nothing wrong with "old tech" so long as Apple (or any other company) is able to put them together to provide a great user experience for the customer. If anything, this is precisely what Apple does best - take an emerging product category with a frustrating user experience and deliver a polished product made possible by their control over hardware and software.

Actually in general tech purchases are very good value in Switzerland because of the low VAT compared to the rest of Europe.

It's just Apple's pricing. Samsung, Sony etc are cheaper here than in the US.

Yes I think compared to UK prices Apple products are very marginally cheaper in Switzerland

That's right, the 14PM 512Gb is ~40 francs cheaper here. Still absurdly expensive compared to XPeria 1 V, Fold 5 or Ultra 23.

Just got a Moto 5G Stylus 2023 for $40 (which is insane @ SlickDeals.net) and it’s awesome. I’m losing interest in these $1000 devices. It also can do iMessage and FaceTime (coming this summer).

I have an iPhone 12, but I’d be hard pressed to come up with a compelling reason to spend $960 more than the Moto for a new iPhone.
After using the Moto for a few days, it always comes back to the software. iOS is always going to be a cut above the rest, for me at least. Still, for $40 this thing outshines my iPhone in some key areas and that’s pretty amazing.

Everything is higher except paychecks funny how that works.
Depends on where you live. In my country, Belgium, wages automatically go up with inflation. Every working person in my country now earns over 10% more than a year ago.

Obviously, companies are not happy with this system, but it shows socialism isn’t so bad as its depicted in the US.

Far as I’m concerned prices are going up and companies are undercutting employees too. Meanwhile they are posting record profits.
Why not removing human from equation? I bet a company that’s operated completely and solely by AI and robots can make record profit too because they don’t need to pay ridiculous compensation to just a handful of people’s work. Glad society is heading towards that direction.
