What new design? It's the same design as iPhone 12...
Rounder edges
thinner bezel
weight loss
camera
usb-c
titanium frame

Is it still the same?
What weight loss? Also, weight loss is not a design element. Neither is an improved camera or USB-C... those are features. You cannot tell that the iPhone 15 is lighter (actually heavier) or has a (slightly) improved camera vs the iPhone 14/13/12 just by looking at it.

And the titanium frame is not a feature found on the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus... which this post is about. So all you're left with is rounder edges and thinner bezel. Not exactly what I'd call an all new design. More like minor improvements, IMO.

It's that time again, the usual YouTubers simping for Apple again.

it's like a coordinated North Korea style propaganda campaign :D

..in all seriousness people have to make a living, and a right to as well.

I generally don't mind all the perceived disingenuousness and all but what really gets me is how they gush over every single thing. Few dare to criticize any single thing, but the following year they are so quick to admit 'photos weren't great' or 'battery life was disappointing' or 'the sharp edges dig into my hand' or 'this left a lot to be desired that has FINALLY been addressed this year' when they had ZERO issue with anything this time last year. Rinse and repeat.

its really weird how the regular models color ways lap the Pro's year over year.

OK so adding fun to Pro models instead of keeping them boring overall would not be 'professional' but I think an iPhone is an iPhone. Pro means premium not pro.

“The colours - of which there are six to choose from - have been infused into the glass and the result is a very, light shade of colour. And I mean very light, almost non-existent.”

Six to choose from? I can only see five. 🤷🏻‍♂️

My only questions are does it have a 2x zoom on the main camera (using digital cropping like the 14 Pro) and does it have the ultra wide macro?

do any review talk about battery life specifics?

the few I saw for 15 plus seem to gloss over that

I wish the blue had a tiny bit more saturation but it’s leagues better than any of the pro colors. I guess it’s because it’s pulling double duty as the white color this year. If I wouldn’t miss promotion I would almost want to get a non pro this year for that color. Almost!

Is dynamic island vs. notch a big enough difference to qualify for you?
I wasn’t commenting on the amount of difference (which is subjective), just pointing out incorrect information.

That aside, I’m personally not a fan of the dynamic island.

You’re describing hindsight, of course their opinions are going to change over time.
That’s why most of them make “three months later”, “six months later”, “a year later” review updates.
Also, most of these reviews didn’t really seem disingenuous to me. Nothing about what MKBHD said sounded like he was being paid by Apple to say it. He even criticized the 15 Pro’s night mode, and specifically mentioned that he uses his action button for Google Assistant, an Apple competitor.
If he’s being paid to say positive things, he’s probably not making them too happy right now.
Sure, their initial impressions are quite positive, as most consumers initial impressions are.
That’s how it usually goes, you love everything about a new shiny for the first two weeks, then the issues or benefits really start to show themselves.
Also, i’m not sure how you expect most reviewers to talk about long-term battery life when they’ve had the phone for barely a week. Most of the 14 pro complaints started months after the phone released, not before the thing even came out to the public.
I truly do not understand what people want to be said in these reviews.
It’s an iPhone, it’s a great product, there’s really not that many things to get upset about these days in a review.
Sometimes it feels like people aren’t happy unless Brian Tong or MKBHD come out and say “the phone sucks the Battery sucks the processor sucks Everything sucks”.

A Major upgrade, are you kidding me?

Who uses cable for data transfers? Who cares what type of connector? People want to charge it!!

OK, A better camera?? Yeah, that's supposed to be since is a new model!!! It would be a surprise if a new model come with the SAME camera!!

The only practical upgrade is the Dynamic Island. There's nothing Major...

A consumer would "feel" a much better upgrade by going from iphone 14 or below to a PRO or a PRO MAX, than to go the 15..... And might be the better choice since those models could go for a discount..

Unfortunatelly even macrumors reviews are so biased and apple-fan-boy those days that they miss the point..

A so called "Major" upgrade would be 120hz, or a better display technology, or AI features or 2x more batt or a 360 camera, or whatever. Something MAJOR.... not minor

My take:
If you have an iphone 14 AND WANT to upgrade, get the PRO MAX.
If you have an iphone 11 or below, it's fine to upgrade, since OLED feels much nicer, but if you really want to feel upgrade, get the PRO or PRO MAX, you will enjoy much better speakers and 120hz and the dynamic island. Huge value.
If you have a 13 or 14 PRO, your only really option is a PRO MAX
And If you have a 13 or 14 PRO MAX, go spent your money with something else!!!

If you love technology like me, and you're are out of ideas I'll help you out.. Go try a a roland E-DRUM drum kit connected to your mac, or a insta360 360 camera, or a VR headset, or the studio display monitor, or decent speakers for your mac (like Yamahas HS5...) or a Fanatec wheel to have some fun driving, or native instruments keyboards to play with VST's, or an E-BIKE with shimano's, or an apple watch, or a fujitsu scanner, or a nice headset like AKG K371, or even some cool macos software like TOPAZ or iphone apps, cmon!!! You'll be so much happier and that would give much more value for a money than this iphone 14 to 15 "MAJOR" upgrade...

Even if they did, they wouldn’t be trustworthy because most people have had the phone for between three and six days.
And no doubt they’ve been constantly using the phone for testing and reviewing.
Not even close to enough time to have a feel for the battery performance, especially since the first several days of owning a new phone, it’s doing all sorts of indexing, processing, and managing in the background.

I, as a consumer, care about the port a lot

I think the port is more interesting than promotion. I can see the difference, but don't care in the slightest.

It's all kinda boring this year, but the screen is fine. The Pro Max is too big..

yeah but it can still be some indication, particularly if they received multiple units with different colors

I didnt call out Marques Brownlee or Brian Tong. I think Marques is actually fairly critical of Apple while retaining his press credentials (and getting quoted by Tim Cook)

It seems obvious at times though he reels in his distaste, bc it would be bad for biz for him but I also don't fault him for that personally. Can't say I wouldn't do the same in his position- he strikes a good balance IMO.

Nobody relatively speaking complained how hefty the 14 pro and pro max were. But now it's 'gosh they needed to go on a diet'

You can tell after a day of using a phone, if not sooner, that it has some undesirable heft. Not 3 / 6 months, etc.

Not sure if this got found already but according to Mrwhosetheboss the HEIC photo file sizes are only 1.5x the size despite being double the resolution and including depth information and Live Photos, and still smaller than a 12MP jpeg.

The regular models have dynamic island too. 120hz would be nice, but I'm not spending $300 more for it and lugging around a heavier phone! Seems weird for you to promote the Pros so heavily... folks buying the regular models know what they're doing. ;)

If you’re not a camera freak or a neurotic nerd there really isn’t much point in getting a pro. I’m both so it’s good for me but not for everyone. Some people I show can’t even tell the difference between pro motion on/off, it’s night and day to me.

you are literally just incorrect about this.
When Apple dropped the 14+, literally one of its biggest benefits was that it was lighter, and reviewers were very quick to point it out.
Also, there have been complaints about the iPhones getting “hefty and bulky” since at least the XS Max, but especially after the 12 pro series.
But also, for some of these reviewers, two things can be true at the same time.
They can think the 14 Pro wasn’t that heavy, while also admitting that the weight improvements of the 15 series are nice to have.
My opinions have changed with time as well, when I got my 12 mini I absolutely loved everything about it, it’s absolutely perfect design, and could barely tell a battery life difference between it and the 11.
A couple months later and I was already sick of its tiny battery and it’s constant cooling issues and several years later I totally understand why the Mini is gone.

That doesn’t mean that my initial impressions were lies.
