This according to the Daily Mail, one of the largest news websites in the world and 9to5mac....

Is this true? Have I missed something?

Another iPhone to become obsolete next month - here's what it means for you https://mol.im/a/13746899

Apple is introducing its newest iPhone 16 in September, meaning it's one again time for the company to render yet another device obsolete.

This fall, the iPhone 15 model won't qualify for the standard update, making it the fastest model to be taken off the shelf in Apple's history.

However, in the newest development, the iPhone 15 not being included in the iOS 18 update could support claims that Apple is phasing out the device in record time, according to 9to5Mac.The lack of an iOS 18 update may not be enough to fully knock the iPhone 15 into obsolete territory, but it could pose a problem for sales which started to drop within a month of the device's release.

You missed the part about the Daily Mail saying it was Apple that is obsoleting the iPhone 15. OH?! The article didn't actually say that?! Interesting! You might want to go investigate what Apple has to say about it then and not the Daily Mail.

Every year there is a newer model iPhone launched, which means the current one becomes the older one. It's happened that way for years now. It doesn't mean that Apple automatically obsoletes the current model. It does means an opportunity for a website to clickbait you though!

Now, what the hell am I going to do with my iPhone 11 Pro Max?! Woe is me!!!!! If the iPhone 15 is obsolete there is NO hope at ALL for my little 11 Pro Max!!!!

Oh yeah the doom and gloom of “Oh My GOD my device become OBSOLETE simply because of ONE (albeit a bit big) feature MISSING!!! Oh the holy world is collapsing!!! Need to buy a new phone NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW!!!

On a more serious note, unless you can say in certain terms that your life is dependent on AI, don’t bother to do panic upgrade like this. It’s feeding the lust of a corporation desperate for the next 900% profit boom.

The Daily Mail isn’t a news website. News implies journalism, wich is a serious activity.
Let's be clear, there is no real journalism left in the West.

On topic, I find it fairly indefensible that Apple knew AI was on the way and certainly could have and should have launched the 15 with 8Gb of RAM alongside the 15 Pro.

The only reason I could see that the iPhone 15 won't be offered is if the SE4 is released and it has similar spec or better than the iphone 15.
The iPhone 15 is beautiful, I like that color infused back glass, and the modern design with more rounded edges, plus the Dynamic Island. But it’s an A16 machine with 6GB of RAM.

On the other hand, we’re expecting an iPhone SE 4 for next spring, with the outdated design of the iPhone 14 and the notch, but with an A18 paired with 8GB of RAM to be able to run Apple Intelligence. If that’s true, the iPhone 15 makes little sense in the lineup, right? I don’t understand how a cheaper entry level model will have better specs than a last year flagship. Unless…

Unless the rumors of the SE 4 having the same guts as the iPhone 16 are wrong, and not being capable of running Apple Intelligence.

It depends. There are people who value design/style over specs/features. The kind of user who just takes selfies, consumes (social) media and messages with friends... Might not even care about Apple Intelligence.

Eh, RCS will be nice to have, and the home screen customizations, and control center customizations, and topographic maps for those of us who live near topography

And everybody with iPhone XR and later will be getting it, according to Apple:
