Been out of the loop for a bit, but decided to check lead time on the Caudabe open sheath and found they weren’t listed as pre-order anymore.

Have an open gray sheath with seaglass buttons on the way for my orange PM.

Nope, I can't do it. How's the weather over there?

Didn’t get the 20 yards of snow they called for; it’s just super cold here :-(

Allegedly getting “more” tonight and it’s actively falling lightly.

No CC button though 😄

Never owned the original iPhone. I started with the iPhone 3G and been using iPhones since.

I was into “jailbreaking” at the time and would get features on my phone from Cydia (it was the jailbreak AppStore) way before Apple decided to release them. Anybody else?

Me and some of my old friends would nerd out on all the features and when Apple finally decided to release more features into iOS I always remember being like I’ve been using this already for a while now, finally Apple! lol

What was everyone’s first iPhone?
I loved jailbreaking my iPhone and customizing it. I was so happy when Apple finally started introducing more features from Cydia. I started with the 4S.

After jailbreaking my 3G I refused to buy a new release until there was a JB available. I still miss folders in folders!

But as it started to take longer and longer for the JB to appear, and even longer if you wanted untethered, I gave up around the 7. Took a while to get used to a non jailbroken iPhone.
The last phone I jailbroke was my 12PM. I kept it jailbroken for 2 years.

Late to the game but my first was the 3Gs. I was collecting iPhones since the 3G, and was thinking about having all of them on display, but decided to bail after thinking I wasted too much money on them. Some of them were sealed. I ended up selling all my collection except the 3Gs.

That’s a lot of phones! Definitely an expensive hobby 🫡

oh yes, jailbreaking.

I only jailbroke my phone because, way back when, I wanted to know what one of the WiFi passwords was that was stored in it. At the time, Apple refused to let one see the passwords once you'd entered them. I don't know about keychain all those years ago, but I had a Windows laptop so that wouldn't have been useful anyway.

And then, after jailbreaking, I shrunk my icons down and had 6 icons in each row, and some interesting icon placements as one could put them anywhere.

I remember the phone looking like a stupid toy once I got an iOS version that I didn't jailbreak with those stupid big icons and only 4 across.

After many years, I've just about gotten used to that 😁. At least I can move them around and put widgets on the home-screen.

Got these plateau protectors for my iPhone 17 Pro and I think I have aligned it up pretty good on my 2nd go. Lucky you get 4 in a pack.

Pretty much eye balled it and looks like I got it pretty good without dust underneath,

Anyone else who has an open plateau case use any protection at all ?

Yes.

Ah Evutec, the first to use aramid in cases. IIRC, they had outsourced a company for their aramid and that company eventually said, we can make cases on our own too...and Pitaka was born. When you think about it, their ballistic nylon cases are the precursor to Apple's TW cases.

I bought them for my 5 and 6. You could even buy them at a Target store. A shame they faded away.

Back then, Pitaka was the upstart, and their early QC was sketchy.

I like this variation more than the retro Spigen.

Is there a reason why Caudabe doesn’t sell their products on Amazon?

Everything associated with being an Amazon seller comes at a cost.

Including returns, which is more likely to impact products like cases where shoppers like to audition and return, which has repercussions for the seller. And sellers must adhere to Amazon's policies and take returns, which cost them fees to handle or discard.

Amazon offers exposure to a huge number of registered shoppers, which makes them hard to ignore, but doing business with them can be difficult (not unlike Apple), even with product categories like tech accessories where the margins are high. That $60 case probably costs less than $10 in wholesale quantities, if that. Glass screen protectors are less than $1/ea, with installation kits. Those $80 charging stations, around $10-20.

These brands are able to provide "good" customer service, take returns, and freely send out replacements because the numbers allow them to. That $30 high-end screen protector is so easily replaced, almost like a subscription, because they cost so little to procure.

Sure, there are many other costs involved in running a business, but it's a large active market ready to be exploited.

Since we're talking the huge winter storm, let me express my disappointment.

I'm in central Kentucky, and we were projected to get 10-14" of snow with the ice and freezing rain staying just south of us.

Instead, overnight, we've gotten about 3" of snow and now it's a mix between rain, sleet, and freezing rain. Should switch back to snow late this afternoon before tapering off completely by tonight.

Admittedly, I wanted a dumping of snow. Instead, I get to stress about the power going out ll day today. Ugh. At least we've got our generator and plenty of fuel if needed.

Current look at our conditions...

The best part is we're going into the deep freeze later today for the rest of the week, so the ice covered roads will stay that way for the foreseeable future. This has turned into the worst case scenario.
