Given that the 16 has already been panned as lacklustre, what's the one feature you'd make sure was in iPhone 17 that would rocket sales next September?

For me, it would be to enable the FM receiver they already have, and make it an App. Seems silly, but it sure would be handy.

It’s dead, Jim.

Tech is generally at the limit imposed by physics. Nothing will “skyrocket” sales, much like no TV or PC release skyrockets sales. It’s a mature platform, yet everyone still acts like it’s 2009 and each phone is a huge difference than the last one.

Well, I can only speak to my for myself because it’s hard to determine what other people would do. A good example is the iPhone mini. if reading these forms was a good gauge of iPhone sales that would’ve been the number one selling iPhone ever. It tanked.

The one feature that would make the iPhone 17 Pro Max a guaranteed purchase for me. A ring/silent switch.

12GB of RAM. Since a LLM data set takes up about two gigs, I guess running two languages simultaneously (necessary for AI-quality translation, etc) would take 4GB. So, half of the currently available RAM. I suspect 12GB will be the minimum if anyone wants to do translations using on-device Apple Intelligence.

“Panned as lackluster?” Reviews don’t come out til tomorrow
I mean, chatter around the web, every YouTube comment, every discussion board, all of it. Like overwhelmingly all of it has described this years release as ”boring” to put it lightly.

And I’m saying that as someone who clearly has no issue with it. Looks great, great device. But come on, unless you live on a mountain and never go on the internet you have to see that it’s been panned.

I really don't mean to be 'that guy', but can you tell me where you heard that the iPhone has an FM receiver? Everything I've ever read says there is NO FM receiver (urban myth) and if Apple just introduced that with the 16 series, I'm not aware of it.

customisable colours on ordering cos the colours Apple bring out every year seem aimed at men rather than women in the Pro models!

That's never gonna happen. They'd rather sell you a music subscription.

Remember the only Apple product to have FM Radio was the iPod Nano and only for a short time 1 or 2 generations.

I don't think they can invent a killer feature in its current form factor. I'm just curious how ridiculous the camera bumps gonna be going forward, as they are quite ridiculous now.

Was waiting for this thread. iPhone 15 was lack luster, iPhone 13, iPhone 12 all were lack luster. What’s next years killer feature?

FCC chairman Ajit Pai wants Apple to turn on the FM radio that’s hidden inside of every iPhone. In a statement today, he asked that Apple “reconsider its position, given the devastation wrought by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria.” The FM radio, he said, can be used to receive “life-saving information” during disasters.

Apple said Pai’s request wasn’t possible for its newest phones. “iPhone 7 and iPhone 8 models do not have FM radio chips in them nor do they have antennas designed to support FM signals, so it is not possible to enable FM reception in these products,” an Apple spokesperson said in a statement.

I guess they're no longer in there and off. Still would like to see FM, but good update.
You realize this isn’t for some sort of public safety. This is coming from the FM radio lobby because they want everyone to listen to FM radio. Just like the dying AM radio has a lobby trying to make a law that automobile manufacturers are required to install AM radios in their cars. Just follow the money is what I say. Thankfully the cell phone lobby has more money than the FM radio lobby 😂

If you have cellular data, you can just get an app for FM radio

4000mAh minimum battery capacity for the 2025 lineup...

I still can't help but be attracted to the camera layout of the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus [with the bump only on the camera area] which what Apple should have done for iPhone 11 and iPhone 12...

As I said, if you have an iPhone 11 Pro or 11 Pro Max [and iPhone 12 series] the iPhone 16 or 16 Plus should be your next iPhone... I'll be keeping my iPhone 13 Pro that replaced my iPhone 14 Pro Max until I see something worth it in the future iPhone models...
