Is the LIDAR sensor likely to do anything useful? Does anyone with the iPad Pro find it a benefit? I'm wondering if it's one of Apple's short-term enthusiasms like 3D Touch, absolutely great until it's dropped without explanation.

I’ve seen the demo of it on the iPad Pro and it’s cool, but I don’t know if I need it? It’ll be interesting to see how they market that. If all models now have OLED, I think more than ever Apple will need to make the Pro models stand out. I didn’t see a hell of a lot of difference in the last 2 years but this year there seems to be 4 excellent iPhone coming and a big price gap. It makes no difference to me as I’m likely getting the iPhone 12 6.1” but still.

I would think there will be more features for LIDAR on the iPhone than the iPad. Could see improved portrait mode as it’s basically a TOF sensor.

Could this Power Portrait Mode?
Today, the iPad doesn’t support portrait mode on the rear cameras. Could they fix this in a software update in the future, by using this depth data? While I wouldn’t say it’s impossible, it’s very unlikely.

I kind of have to believe LIDAR was pushed on the iPad to allow early development for the iPhone 12 lineup so more AR focused apps can be showcased. I would imagine WWDC would have something to show here as well.

While it isn’t a game changer in and of itself, it does make you wonder if the tech is a high level preview of what we can expect for future Apple Wearables (ie, glasses, etc....)

This is very interesting if true.

iPhone 12 $549 (4G LTE)

While I love the classic design of the SE 2020, no doubt there are a lot of people who’d like a different look after 6 years of essentially the same design. With 5G being limited as of the moment, a 4G LTE-only iPhone 12 5.4” could very well be the best selling iPhone for 2020.

Seems unheard for Apple to release a flagship/latest gen below the usual $649 MSRP but these are trying times.

That would be perfect. My 2020 SE would be instantly traded in.

Didn't he just get a bunch of things wrong about WWDC this year?

He still has a 78% accuracy record..you think all leakers have 100% track records? He’s not the only leaker who had said this is likely

God I hope there’s no differences in screen quality between the 749 iPhone and the 999. I could care less about lidar. Don’t miss it on my returned iPad 2020 vs my 2018. I just want the same screen quality, and awesome battery life.
