I honestly can't see Orange making the iPhone 'cheaper'. As it stands, 02 are still having shortages of stock - and this is after people saying its 'expensive'. Fact of the matter is, its a hot seller - its a phone everyone is after... iPhone is the 'coolest' brand to date.

Now, why would Orange make the iPhone cheaper when its selling so well already? Would be a terrible business decision IMO. Even if they do decide to make it 'cheaper' - they'll deduct something off the package i.e. free 3G or make the minimum contract length longer, as they are already notorious for doing so.

They could reduce the price by £5 across all tariffs and then people would think twice about going to O2!

So long as they keep up with demand, this is very interesting.

More interesting for me as I have a 3G and am waiting for the next iPhone revision.

i guess at least O2 could give existing customer a discounted tariff. i got my current mobile phone 10pound discount a month for 12month as existing customer.

now competition will commence against orange, i cud try ask o2 to give me a discount, or ill go for orange!

Really couldn't care less. 3GS is most likely gonna be my last Apple phone anyway.

And then O2 would match or undercut Orange.
Hopefully, having a choice should benifit us, the consumer. Either that or it will be just as expensive on Orange

Whilst I have no glaring issues with O2 here in London, it'll be good to see exactly what Orange can offer with regard to tarrifs, data and wi-fi.
My iPhone contract is up for renewal in January, so I'll be watching to see how things develop.
Unlimited data is essential on an iPhone, because you use so much of it so easily. Orange will have to at least offer the same data options, IMO.

At last!!!! While i have an iPhone on o2 i bought mine on pay as you go and used my old o2 contract sim card. I thought the iPhone contract deals were awful and as for the 3G coverage its probably the worst out of all the UK operators. For supposedly the biggest UK network they have been warned many times about their below par 3G service and have done nothing about it.

Hopefully this will lead to them improving their iPhone specific tariffs and sorting out their coverage.

My Orange reception is normally brilliant. Except at work. And at home. And my parents homes.

Oh and when Oranges data services literally die network wide, while im using Google Maps to make my way around Edinburgh (a city which i dont know) for about 8 hours, and every now and then at night while im trying to send an email from in my bed before i sleep.

Other than that, they're fantastic.

Actually, why am i with Orange again?

I had been with Orange for 10 years prior to switching to O2 last October so I can get the iphone 3G. Orange was much better in customer services up to 2004 where it all went down the pan. Then they stopped caring. So far I am very pleased with O2. My contract expires in April. I will wait until the 4th generation iphone comes out (I suspect June/July?) to decide what I will do about it.

Ditto. Simplicity until then!

Given Orange's impending ~37% share of the UK market this can only be thought of as a smart move for Apple.

Would I actually switch, though? No, because down here Orange coverage is even worse than O2 coverage.
you never know the merger with t-Mobile surely would improve orange's coverage as they would be using more masts?
