Has anyone else noticed on their 3g iphone any issues with the build quality? I just got a 16GB white, and have noticed that there is a noticeable edge on the case sides where the white case meets the chrome bevel.

It's almost like the case just doesn't fit well, and is possibly slightly bulging at the sides.

Should I return it (can I return it?)?
Has anyone else noticed the same thing?

My black one squeaks on the left side if held tightish - bloody annoying

Exact same iPhone, exact same thing, its just in a tiny area on the right side of mine tho. Idk it doesnt bother me too much, if it does ill ask apple about it but im not about to show up at Apple anytime soon unless its a major issue, but if it annoys you then bring it back, you paid $300 you should be happy with it

holy crap that would bug the hell out of me.

I was once content with my first gen iPhone until someone pointed out that my home button was a little loose... damn you Apple...

Not noticing it as much as I did when I first got it - but then again my Macbook pro squeaks and they wouldn't fix it as they said it was a cosmetic thing so I guess I'll have to live with it again!

Touch wood - I havent had any problems

The finishing looks good .... Guys who havent got it yet and are looking to buy one soon ... Better check it out in the store before you leave .... If anything is wrong U can exchange it there... U can even say that you want to check it out even before they configure it to ur name... Good luck

I noticed it's not as smooth as original iPhone. Some edges are a little rough, and there was a small amount of dried glue on the side of mine. Luckily I was able to just scrape it off. Nothing too major though. You can almost expect this with the massive price cut.

Hmm not overly happy

Mine has a small scratch on the silver apple logo. It also has a small raised knobbly bit on the back, where the silence switch it. I originally thought it was a foot knobbley bit, but looking at the photos it isn't suppose to be there.

I bought mine from CPW this morning (well telephone order delivered to store). I want to be 100% happy with is due to the cost, will Apple do anything about it? or do I have to take it back to CPW?

It had the plastic wrapper all around the box, could it have been done in manufacturing? Maybe a bad back case? Everything else is fine, but for such a smooth back it is annoying the hell out of me!

I have noticed the rough edges... but no squeaking

hadn't noticed any squeaking yet, but the case is a bit annoying.

to be fair, i had dropped my first gen phone a couple of times on concrete, and the case had dented to the point of hanging over the edges a bit, so it actually feels a bit familiar to me ...

what could be squeaking?

Had some dried glue on the bottom that I was able to get off. The Apple logo on the back has a couple "stains" that you can see at certain angles. Kind of annoying, but not enough to take it back.

I have no squeaking, though i do have a very annoying rattle whenever the vibrate switch is engaged (only happens when the phone is being held vertically though)...

I had some solid jelly between the back plastic and the front metal after pulling it with my neil it's now gone, but it's definately cheapper made  not apple quality:apple::mad:

I decided to bite the bullet, pack the thing back up, and return it to the at&t store I bought it from.

No more stock.

Figures. Now I am back on the fence about either returning it, or living with it. This is not a small mis-alignment, but is very noticeable (and annoying).

crap.

I logged on to ask the same thing...

my white 16gb is exactly the same way - rough edge on the right side like it's just a fraction of a millimeter out of alignment. Nothing too major, just the slightest bit annoying.

I guess I'm happy that it's not unique to just my phone and seems to be a production thing...

Mine has the slightest little chip by the sim slot. It's like a tiny divet. I went through a lot to get this phone today, it has character. This is my iPhone. Oh and Apple quality control sucks, but I knew that on my second Macbook pro.

White iphone 3g plastic issue

I too have the sharp edges that do not meet up with the chrome bezel. actually, both upper corners are pretty bad.

*Should I take it in to the Apple Store and see if they will return it for a new one?

I'm not impressed with the build quality of my phone. My fiance's 8gb black and it has no sharp edges and they meet up together perfectly.

The glass on the bottom of my phone is sunk about half a mm below the bezel and the top is about half a mm above. When I slide to unlock, my finger hits the bezel instead of sliding off.

Annoying as heck!

to tell you the truth, it seems to only be happening to 16GB phones in general.

i have an 8GB, and only returned it because there was a chunk missing out of the back of it.

My wife got a paper cut on the edge of my white one. I took it in to apple today and they're ordering me a new one. No questions asked.
