I upgraded from an original iPhone on Wednesday and bought a Black 8GB iPhone 3G. I have yet to apply the Bestskinsever.com skin to it, or put my Crystal Film Set on it yet, which I had been planning on doing tonight. I am currently keeping it in a corduroy sack/case. But I noticed how many fingerprints and smudges are on the back of it, and I'm not sure that will get any better with the skin.

1. Does anyone have a BSE or other skin on a Black iPhone? If so, how does it do with fingerprints now that the skin is on?

2. How does the white compare? I have not seen one in person and am considering paying the restocking fee to get the white if it will hold up better. Especially with the skin on.

3. How does the white look with metal buttons? The black looks quite sharp, just worried that the white doesn't contrast the chrome buttons enough.

Love to hear your opinions.

black is wayyyyyyyy better than white..... IMO
I love black all around...very cool...:D

white = oreo cookie

Even though my xbox 360 looks very nice with the white and chrome mix, the iPhone looks better with a black/chrome mix vs white/chrome. I just got the black iPhone and it is BEAUTIFUL, the smudges are not really a bother to me , but I am curious as to which plastic film hides the smudges best.

I've just been out tonight with someone who has a white iPhone and had a good look and play with it. It's the business. Very crisp and clean-looking and a cut above the usual.

Have no idea how that white plastic is going to look in 18-24 months time though.

There's a clear coat on the plastic, so that may help with the color. It's a trade off. Black will definitely show normal wear and tear scratches over time.

thanks BV the BSE is fantastic. On my original iPhone it looked new as day one a year later. Getting a hold of one and standing in line again is another story. I have 12 more days to do it, but if I'm not going to I want to put the skin on pronto.

Before you take back your black one and exchange it for the white, you might want to ask yourself which would bother you more: smudges or cracks.

ive been thinking about doing the same thing. However there arent any iPhones at my local store! I currently have a 16 gb black and its nice, but it smudges and I like the exclusiveness of the limited edition white. I just hope that it wont fade over time. Does the white show scratches? Also how do you post a poll?

I'm not worried about scratches. Neither the chrome bezel or the black or metal part of the back of my original iPhone never showed any scratches after a year with the BSE skin.

As far as the white, I am thinking that the white won't even look like it has a skin while the black will.

tradeoffs -

the black will show smudges and fingerprints more, with or without the skin.
the black looks sexier I think with the chrome volume, sleep, silent buttons and logo.

the white does have the limited appeal.
the white looks very crisp, clean.
but the white doesn't highlight the metal buttons as well.
the white should hide that there is even a skin and hopefully show less.

there is now speculation and I guess some evidence that the white is developing cracks.

I have the black, will have to wait for the white.

White 16GB for sure..more attention and the white looks amazing with the chrome buttons and apple logo..and I was on the black wagon till I saw a white in person then I picked the white immediately.

i originally bought a white iphone. i installed the invisbleshield on it and it looked like crap after two days. its soaked up dirt and looked yellowish. I had a friend who bought a white and black iphones and he was going to sell the black. I traded with him, and ordered a replacement skin from IS. the new skin has arrived and I am completely happy now. The skin DOES NOT show smudges and finger prints like the black phone does with out the skin. the skin helps hide the prints and also the black phone hides the dirt from the skin. Keep the black and get the skin for it! :D

so the phone or invisible shield turned yellow?

there is no restocking fee...the white looks much better anyways..just return it w/in 30 days to an apple store..thats what I did

they are both nice... I wouldn't trade my white. In addition to really liking it, it doesn't show fingerprints and smudges. I like the looks of the black almost as much, though it looks a little too much like other phones, and it is a smudge fingerprint magnet. I am too OCD for that

Buy the BodyGuardz film - shiney/glossy sexy black - no smudges. Just nice.

What color would Steve Jobs get?
What color would Paris Hilton get?

:) Just sayin'

1. navy blue custom model 32gb
2. one of those aftermarket gold editions.

Well for now I am keeping it. I went by the Apple Store and looked at the white one for like 2 minutes. True the display models were already hacked up, but the white one didn't pop out at me as much as I hoped it would. I guess it was too many white iPods back in the day before colors. I was also sketchy on the cracks thing, and someone said it got yellowy and attracted dirt with a skin on. So I put the skin on my black one tonight and it looks really good. Have to wait 2-3 days for it to fully cure before I can tell if the one bubble I have is a bubble that will dry off or a fleck of dirt trapped. I think it is dirt since it is small and pointy. Otherwise the application went perfect. Took a while, but looks great. Tomorrow I will put my Crystal Film Set on the screen and be done. If I really decide I want the white and supplies show up within 2 weeks, I can peel the skin off, and get the white. What's one new skin at that point. Talk about OCD. I guess I should have sold my original iPhone for more, then I could have gotten a 16GB Black or White guilt free. But hey, $40 ($14 tax, $8 skin free shipping, $18 AT&T upgrade fee) = new iPhone the same day as my 1 year warranty was going to run out. That's cheaper than Applecare. Well except for the $15/month rate hike.

i have white, and thus far love it. no remorse here. I think it looks gorgeous.

I'm debating putting a case on it though. I love it so much naked, but i'm afraid of all the wear and tear and possibly covering. I tried a kinda clunky rubber casing which was meant for the original iphone (it actually fit perfectly) but it just get awkward, excessively large, and slightly obscured the buttons due the thickness of the material...

what kind of case do you guys recommend and is it a good idea to get one at all?
