mhmmm guys, how did you get it to work because I'm holding the home button like I used to in my edge phone, but on my 3gS it keeps bringing the iphone voice control....obviously

I don't see the fascination of listening to music on Pandora, I don't see where this is an issue. The ipod plays in the background. If you want to listen to music, why not just put it on your phone.?

I gotta agree, I always hear how backgrounder is the greatest reason to jailbreak an iPhone but other than listening to music streaming apps, is it really useful? What other apps are useful to run in the background?? I love the idea of multitasking but if all I can do is stream music is it really that great?? Can anyone tell me some other scenarios where backgrounder is useful??

I have always agreed about not needed multi tasking for anything other than listening to pandora/streaming music while doing other things. I have recently found another reason I would like to enable multi tasking. When im uploading photos/audioboos ect. I would like to be able to upload in the background and use other features.

Did they change the way backgrounder works? Last year it would disable on me every time my phone locked, which I have to have. I found it to be more troublesome than I wanted. If one ever came out as a permenant toggle I'd be JB'd again. Especially if it was in bossprefs.

At startup iphone 3G has 38mb of free memory, iphone 3GS has 160mb. This makes a HUGE difference in what you can do.

I am totally down with the extra RAM in the 3GS, and that is the #1 reason why I will eventually upgrade to the S.

However, I have also noticed that Apple did an amazing job putting the 3.0 OS on a RAM diet. Unlike with 2.2.1, I have no more problems with having Pandora in the background and simultaneously surfing around with Safari, or running Maps w/ live GPS tracking on (while in the car). I have even successfully managed to also keep Nimbuzz running in the background logged into GTalk with either Pandora or FStream playing music and doing something else.

So a lot of my multitasking needs have actually been met by 3.0 itself on my current hardware, rather than a hardware upgrade (which is still forthcoming; don't worry ;)).

whats the music selection like from pandora? if you like the song tand you dont want to pay for it then why stream it instead of other "free" sources (none of which i know of  *Cough* limewire *cough*)

Yo i thank you so much for posting this. I had no idea the app store had trapster. My job in patient transport and I need this so much for the long trips i take and i can have it running in the background.

Am i the only one horrified by someone in patient transport trying to beat the law when it comes to... transporting patients?

I run skype in the background often. It saves me alot of minutes+money. I run navigon as well so I can spot search google and stuff when I'm driving.

mquickdo is a pretty good pay app from Cydia. It enables advanced gestures to switch among running apps. It works really well with Backgrounder. There's a three-day trial as well so you can check it out. I just bought it this evening.

Just started using mQuickDo as well, pretty awesome. The task switcher is great, and the customization options are awesome. mQuickDo is a must if you're using Backgrounder.

very tempting. I don't care about background apps except for pandora and wunder radio... but that's a pretty big "except." Don't want to see my battery life fall too far tho. Hmm. Does the battery drain faster if you have backgrounder installed but don't currently have anything running in the background?

Question -

Once I have jailbroken my 3GS - installed backgrounder and SBSettings - can I delete the 'Freeze' application from my phone? It was only used to install Cydia - right?

If you don't have anything running in the background then it won't drain your battery. I have been running a mix of Pandora/Slacker in the background along with BeejiveIM (Yes I have Push but sometimes I just want a break from it:p) and the battery does not drain as fast as I thought it would! So all is good :)

Backgrounder + iTalk or Backgrounder + voipover3g + sipphone will allow you to receive voip calls wherever you are. i think that's pretty cool. i use it with voipcheap.com sip service to have a german number while residing in southern california.

I kinda wondered with the added memory if the "Lag" issue and "App Crashes" would be a thing of the past on jailbroken 3G(s) iphones. So no lagging at all huh?

So far it has been nice and smooth on my 3GS.
Its sitting there with 168MB of ram open waiting to multitask.
Backrounder is awesome on the 3GS.
Im running Navigon GPS, along with Pandora and I even drop a few text messages all at the same time without even breaking a sweat.
With the added ram and faster CPU Apple should have enabled apps to run in the backround on the 3GS models.

As someone who fairly recently was transported 28 miles from one hospital to another with a world class Cath lab where I had angioplasty & stents placed, i am not horrified at all.

Because I was not in "immenent distress" they were not allowed to use lights/sirens for the transport but the Interventionalist who did my procedure praised the short time involved in transport as one of the reasons I had no damage to my heart from my heart attack.

YMMV
