And finally yesterday I got a call from my carrier that my iPhone can be picked up from a local store.

Been using it for the past day and this thing is brilliant...it's fast and responsive. Although I hope that Apple can do something to make the battery last longer :)

Get an external battery charger. I bought one for only $5.

Not actually a big problem for me. My phone sits on a universal dock when i'm home, so that's not a problem. And I go to a trip I always take the charger with me (I have 2 of those).

I was just saying if you use the phone much, you have to recharge it every night. I'm not a so heavy user, I usually text, surf the web, check twitter and facebook and that kind of little stuff and I'm pretty fine with the battery...but you can always ask more :D

last friday

i received a call last Friday from one of the suppliers in belgium

they had my phone in stock Iphone 32gb black .. i was on their waiting list

I had to explain i purchased one from Australia ... as i got bored waiting ..

so this obviously means stock has started to arrive in Belgium again !! :)

so if you are still waiting i suggest you start ringing round ..

Iphone in Sardinia?

Hi all (and especially the Italian forum users here!),

I'm due to go to Sardinia for a holiday in late September and was thinking of picking up an unlocked iPhone 3GS if the prices aren't crazy and subject to stock availability.

Does anyone know if there are any stores I should be looking out for in Sardinia?

Muchos gracias!

Unlock of iPhone

I don't know if Italy have a AT&T network, so maybe it has been unlocked by Apple Inc. But, may it was talked to the other mobile network, maybe T-mobile or others (I don't know about Italy's Telecom Network).
:D

You need to look for Vodafone or Tim stores, they are the two networks officially selling the iPhone. Other electrical stores might also sell them too. When you get to your hotel ask the guys at reception to ring around some of the local stores to see who has stock because the people working in the store may have little or no English.

Funny you should mention that, Easy-M called to inform me that my 32GB White had arrived yesterday. Unfortunately, my wife had the mobile phone and had turned it off so we didn't actually get the call and therefore when I called them back today my phone had already been sold to someone else.

I've said it once and I'll say it again, I bloody hate Wednesdays.

Still, at least I know that I am at the top of the list now and that it should not be long now. Apparently they do still have a 16GB White version available, in case anyone is interested.

I finally* caved in and ordered from expansys. Ordered yesterday afternoon, and got a DHL tracking number this afternoon.

It's not the cheapest option.

[*] Wanted an iPhone since the announcement back in January 2007 :D

Hi

I've booked a cheap ticket to Brussels for 1st September. I've done a bit of reading of this monster thread but basically wanted to ask, what's the best way to get a 32gb at the moment?

Do I have to preorder? If so how? Or do I just walk into a mobistore, fnac or what?

Many thanks for your advice!

Order online. All media shops in Europe (or Italy, at least where I'm at) ran out of iPhones weather 16 or 32 and if or when they recieve supplies from Apple- it's probably 3-4 iPhones which are already booked by people.

TIM and Vodafone, in Italy, now seem (or refuse) to sell iPhones without contracts. Like it's supposed to be sold here, anyway..

Somehow off-topic: I don't know if you knew, but the /only/ Apple Store in Italy is in Rome, which I really don't think they've got any stock anyway.. All others are just retailers, or just random media shops who know very, /very/ little.

There is almost no stocks of 3Gs in Italy, I heard that from a friend of mine who runs a vodafone store in north Italy, but I was told that they expect new shipments to Italy in beginning of September.

I noticed today and yesturday that Handtec has iPhone 3GS 32GB black in stock for next day delivery, so maybe some of you will prefer to go through them.

I ordered 1 for myself today for Saturday delivery. I also called them to make sure its not a "computer error" and the phone is actually in stock. They said its not a mistake but there are only 5 left. :)

I've opted for them as I worked out it was only a few more pounds when I factored in cost to aiport, airport to Brussels, food etc and I don't have to spend 2 days away too!

I'm quite sure this has been discussed earlier in this post but I don't have the time to go thru 53 pages :(

Any news on the warranty?

If I buy an Italian iphone then get Apple Care for it, will I be able to get it serviced outside Italy, say, in Spain?

I have a close work collaborator in Milano and could "use him" to get an iphone for me..

I'm really fed up with Movistar.. I bought the 3G 13 months ago. See, in Spain there's no law requiring operators to unlock phones, just a "recommendation" from the Spanish "Ofcom". So, Movistar basically unlocks ANY phone after 12 months into the 2-year contract EXCEPT for the iphone, which they require the full 24 months to be over before they would even consider unlocking your iphone.

That's still an improvement over the US, where AT&T won't unlock the iPhone even after the 24 months are up. Sigh.

iPhone warranty is only covered in a country that sells them. So you have to send it back to Italy if you want to get it repaired.

If you buy AppleCare, the same thing, iPhones applecare doesn't offer worldwide warranty for the iPhone.

Anyone know about the stock situation in Belgium?

As far as I can tell, the stock situation is better and therefore you might get lucky. As noted in this thread, I placed an order (i.e. put my name on their waiting list) about 6-weeks ago for a 32GB White model and finally got a call from them confirming that mine had arrived last week (but I didn't get it because my wife had turned the mobile phone off). I tried cold-calling a few places the weekend before and some of them had had stock briefly the day before. Given this it is certainly possible that you could find somewhere with 3GSs available for open sale but don't expect this and if you are prepared to compromise on a 16GB model then I think you will have better luck.

You cannot reserve an iPhone at a Mobistar location without paying a deposit of about EUR 120 so you will need to be lucky to get one from them. However, Mobistar is the official supplier in Belgium and therefore likely has the better stock levels. Since they have bee working their way through their own reservation lists I expect that it is quite possible the some stores have finished their lists and may now have phones available for normal retail sale, although you may find them unwilling to sell you what you want if they cannot sell you a call plan of some description (this is why I tend to avoid them).

You can reserve an iPhone with an independent stockist like Cami (www.cami.be), who are now advertising that the 16GB version can be bought from their web site. There is no guarantee that they will have received a product for the date that you arrive but if you call them and explain the situation then they will usually be helpful. I have my reservation with Easy-M but they are in Leuven and so getting to them from Brussels would require another train trip (assuming you are travelling by Eurostar). You can find a list of all the independent resellers on Apple's Belgian website here (it's in Dutch but I'm sure you can muddle through).

Best of luck - I'm hoping that I'll get another "bite at the cherry" this week since I have separated my wife from the phone and now keep it near me. This seems like a ridiculous amount of hassle to go through for a mobile telephone.

oi oi,

iPhone arrived last Monday from down under.. very quick service from Ausluck.

Shame I have just received a customs invoice, but.. it's only for £20 so not all bad :)

woop woop :D

then I don't understand how could there be 53 pages of people willing to risk having a faulty iPhone just to get it unlocked :(

I had to replace my iphone three times in the first year I've had the 3G..

Well, still no joy from Easy-M and when I spoke to Cami this afternoon the gentlemen there thought that he would not receive additional stock before the end of September! I sincerely hope that he is mistaken. Certainly I cannot believe that they would see absolutely no stock of the devices for over a month. Oddly, they are listing the 32GB Black model for order on their website (well, pre-order) but no mention of the White version.
