So the iPhone 3GS is released in the UK on June 26? When the iPhone 3G was released how much did owners of the original iPhone have to pay O2 for an upgrade?

As an iPhone 3G owner i am looking forward to the release of the 3.0 OS. I'm not to fussed about the iPhone 3GS, as there are no changes to the external look of the phone. The only differences between the 3G and 3GS i can see are the, improved performance, built-in video camera with editing, voice control and compass. It would be nice to have the 3MP camera with the ability to record videos.

If O2 offer a good upgrade deal i will probably get the 3GS, otherwise i'm not that fussed. :)

You can't really compare the 2G iPhone to 3G upgrade, because the original iPhone was not subsidised by o2.

I am ready to buy my first iPhone, don't want a contract and was willing to pay £340 for a pay as you go. Wondering now if O2 will announce pay as you go phones for June 19th, after all the handsets are the only change, the network and sims are already in place for the iPhone Pay&go service.

Please O2, offer Pay&go on the 19th.

It will more likely be £400 as the 3G is still £342!!!

so there is no difference between the 16GB and the 32GB models at all other than capacity?

I'm not too fussed to be honest...I can do without. If O2 offer a good price and/or i get a decwnt resale value on my current phone then I'll probably get one. Otherwise I'm happy to hang on to my current 3G

You need a bolt on to tether! £15 for 3GB! No Thanks!!

If you would like to leave your contract early you will need to pay extra - call us up and we can explain how much in each specific case

Seems like some poor guy is answering all the questions through twitter!!

And to confirm, you will have to sit out the remainder of your 3G contract before you can upgrade (unless you want to be stung for an early leaving fee)

From the O2 twiter account it looks like there will be no early upgrades to the 3GS if you are still in contract!

Sorry, I'm trying to be as clear as possible - if you are eligible to upgrade in December, you can get one in December

If you want to get out of the contract they will charge you for it! Well that sucks!!

and the tethering costs a lot!
To tether you need an Internet Tethering Bolt On: 3Gb for £14.68/month, 10Gb for £29.36/month. Both include The Cloud's Wi-Fi.

My Need For New Tech is Killing Me! >.<

Took out my iPhone Contract October 2008, when can i get the 3GS! Not Happy with O2 at the moment, if the 3GS isnt subsidized i'll seriously consider a Pay & Go 32Gb.

From O2 Twitter:

"You will be able to upgrade to an iPhone 3GS when you're eligible for an upgrade"

I started my contract on July 11th when the 3g Iphone was releases. How do you find out when your eligible?

this is a HUGE FAIL

following @o2 on twitter...

if you're currently within contract you can't upgrade! if you want to leave early u have to buy out your contract and then upgrade at the silly prices for the handsets £274 aparently for 32gb!!

and the tethering options are SHOCKING!!!

Why i this surprising?

That is inline with any Phone company's upgrade policy.
Why should the iPhone be offered a different upgrade option than Nokia, Samsung etc?

I really don't understand why they are not letting us upgrade as per last year ??????

because last year they had a loyal customer policy that if you had original iphone which was in 18month contract, you could upgrade to 3G without paying an upgrade fee

and this year they have scrapped it...

do they say how much it'll cost for a new customer? i don't have an iPhone and was thinking of getting this version, but if it's too expensive.......

Gonna wait for something properly official on the O2 website, but im not very happy right now.

I figure its because there is only 1 model a year. And people most likely to buy the model already have the last model, so have to wait 18 months to get it

Last time around the phones were not subsidised in the contract. So O2 was effectively losing absolutely nothing apart from tying you into another 18 months contract.

Ugh, guys! This is woeful. I really hope O2 update soon so I know where I stand. I sold my 3G a few weeks ago! I'm dying without it.

With regards to the 'updated' iPhone, what does everyone think? I don't know that I'd upgrade if I hadn't already gotten rid of my 3G.

Just realised that if they make you wait 18 months to upgrade from the 3g, then you get a 3gs with another 18 months... you'll end up skipping the next completely (as long as they keep up the yearly cycle!)
