So I preordered from mobiles.co.uk yesterday, and I have received a message that they are temporaroly out of stock of the 3gs.

Does anyone know if this is because, obviously, the phone is not released yet, or whether it's that their allocation of stock has already been pre-ordered and I'll have to look elsewhere?

Any info would be superb.

That is fine, It shows that for everyone until they have stock the day before it is released.

I have just gone to get my PAC code from o2 so i can use it with the new 3Gs, I dropped the contract from £35 to £30 and they told me that i will still have 7 months of paying £35 not £30 for the rest of the contract !
That can't be right can it ???? Has anyone else had this ???

I think he is talking about Simplicity?

http://shop.o2.co.uk/sim-only-simplicity

You can choose what you need. For example third one down you can configuire to 600 mins, 1200 texts and unlimited web bolt on for £20 a month which is what i'll be doing and then buy a 16gb 3GS on paygo :)

And I know we've talked about the limitations a few times already. But you will lose visual voicemail, wifi "could" access and is that all?
Because Im in agreement that looks like the best option, keeps you out of a contract!

By moving to the Simplicity tariff does anything else not work on the iPhone apart from Visual Voicemail? You still have VM right and you don't have to pay extra to access it?

With the Web Bolt-on, I take it that doesn't include Wi-Fi hotspots? Anyway to have both as you can have unlimited web and Wi-Fi with the iPhone tariff?

as far as I am aware, with the PayGo you get 12 months FREE unlimited data surfing on 3G and WiFi then after 12 month period, you must top up by £10 per month to keep the 3G data going. You don't get Voice Dialing or tethering on the PayGo.

I got a text from them notifying me I could call and preorder now, but when I called, they told me to give them a ring back at around 12. Hopefully the PAYG option will be available to preorder too!

Wi-fi is available as a bolt on with Simplicity.

no voice dialing? this cant be right, its a software feature, not a contract feature...

Think he means Visual Voicemail. I'm guessing tethering will only be available on the iPhone pay monthly tariffs too (i.e. not on Simplicity).

Id assume the tethering hack will still work though?
just not the stupid £15 a month tethering ripoff...

you can drop a tariff but only after 9months of paying the original tariff .. not sure if this helps with your question? .. if you've paid 9 months or more (which would be impossible it's it a 3G iPhone) then you should only be paying £30 per month for the rest of your contract!

Thanks, I have decided on the advice of someone else to get it on PAYG now rather than pay out the ret of the contract as it works out cheaper.

The iPhone 3G was released on 11th July last year, which was exactly 11 months ago. :p

Been away from this thread a bit. Watching what's going on on twitter, O2 have already admitted that the UK wholesale price they pay for the iPhone 3G S is the same as the iPhone 3G. Hence, they've essentially admitted to raising the price on the 16GB iPhone by nearly £30. There's something very fishy going on pricing wise.

The iPhone should only be about £100 tops more expensive than an iPod Touch with the same memory capacity, that's the way its always been. Which means it should be £265, £314, £383 maximum. Seeing as the £35 a month tariff pays a subsidy of ~£15, the iPhone should be priced on an 18 month contract as free for the 8G, ~£50 for the 16GB and ~£120 for the 32GB.

Iphone on Vodavone?

Carphone warehouse rang me this morning to ask if i wanted to place my order for two new iphones. But as i can't O2 here i said 'no thanks'. So does any one know if we are to get these phones on Vodafone in the near future?

You don't need to buy out of your current contract though if you buy the PAYG version - just pop in your sim card. Meaning you can sell your current 3G, use up the final months of the current 18 month contract and be out of contract in time for the *next* iPhone - in the meantime (from December) you can be on the £20 simplicity tariff which includes tonnes of minutes and unlimited browsing...

£538 (32gb PAYG) - £200 (from selling current 3G) = £338 (plus saving at least £100 by moving onto simplicity tariff in December)

OHHH RIIIGHT!!! i didn't know you just continue the contract on with a PAYG phone.. lol!

so whats the process? I just go into an o2 store, buy the payg 3gs, take my sim out of my 3g, pop into 3gs and all works fine?

does o2 need to do anything on their end? eg:activate blah blah.. ?

what would happen to my 3g if i didn't trade it in? would that just be an ipod touch? or could someone else use it with an o2 sim?

thanks
