Ok guys I could do with a bit of advice here.
My situation: I'm a CPW customer on a non iPhone contract (I actually do have a first gen iPhone, but its I got it from US before they came out here, jailbroke it and put my normal o2 sim in it).
I am due for an upgrade now.
I had a fairly severe altercation with CPW; it involved them accidently setting up an account in my name and trying to charge me for it. Despite numerous attempts for me to resolve the situation, it ended up with them sending me letters threatening serious court action and a warning that bailifts would be attendning my property - all for a phone account I never actually owned / existed. It took 18months to fully resolve the situation. As part of the resolution I was offered some form of compensation when it came to me upgrading, if I chose to stay with CPW.
So I rung up and asked what they can offer me in terms of getting the new iPhone. However, naturally, evertything to do with the iPhone is 10x more complicated than any other phone. The main problem is that even if you get an iPhone through CPW, you're essentially "handed over" to o2, and therefore no longer a CPW customer. This means the compensation that can be offered to me is limited (I can somewhat see the logic in this - if they are passing me on to o2 then they are losing me as a customer anyway, so why would they care about keeping me sweet?).
I was presented with these two options:
a) Get an iPhone through CPW with o2. The compensation they can offer me is, and I quote - "some sort of accessory, eg. a car kit or bluetooth headset". Hmmmmmm....I think not.
b) I dont get the iPhone, get a different phone, and they will be able to offer me "around" £200-300 cash back as compensation. The amount will depend on if I chose to opt for an instant cheque (eg. I get less) or go down the stupid redemption route whereby you have to send them monthly bills x, y, z to get your cash back. I have been stung by the redemption route in the past, so I will most likely go for the instant cash back route - so lets say I get £200.
Now, I'm looking for some advice - I'm thinking of going for option b), getting cash back, selling the phone they upgrade me to, and buying a PAYG iPhone 3GS. My concerns are I need to make sure the contract I get will inculde data usage, and that push notifications etc will work when I put the sim in the iPhone. I'm not bothered by Cloud Wifi.
If anyone could give me advice on what contract / phone (eg. one with maximum profit when I sell it) to get I would be very grateful!
