Actually no, I didn't include Photostream, Print, Read Later, (Google+, LinkedIn, Tumblr)-these three may depend on the app
I hope you realize that we are not talking about opening an app and sharing content from inside the app. Photostream is ICloud proprietary. Print/Read Later - minor use

Nope, I can save documents also via itunes file sharing, web server, e-mail attachment, bump, cloud storage
And my point was "save to phone storage". Yeah, you can save to those sources but this requires a round trip of data movement and thus wasting cellular data, battery, slow. No wonder Iphone users clock up much higher amount of data usage compare to other OSes :(

Hate subtitles, video player plays my videos just great, i've also never had an issue going over my data limit and my phone has always lasted at least a full day
Well, you can say you dont need this and that BUT that is just you. However, if you do need it, then you CAN"T have it which means this round goes to S3 (as this thread is about a match) :p

No, it's just tells that I myself don't like using my phone to edit files, especially since files I normally work with are RAW files in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, not that I would want to, but can the S3 edit RAW files?

see above response.

I honestly have only ever needed to copy past the last thing, but is this a feature I might like...absolutely - notice how I concede on some points I agree with (can't say the same about a lot of these android fans posting)

If you take out your personal preferences, I think you more or less need to concede all my points. :D Unfortunately for IFans, that's the reality - that S3 can do many more things which Iphone/ios cannot do.

I have an app, I choose the song I want and then select a clip I want (not some crappy canned ringtone bought online). Then just plug into itunes and sync, how tedious is that?
You need your Itunes (specifically the PC your phone sync to). So you can't do this adhoc. On Android, you just copy ringtone to phone or install ringtone app and select. Anytime anywhere.

So for this to work you have to manually enter this event into your calender right? So in actuality it is taking you much longer to enter this information as opposed to just flipping a switch?, also what if it is an event you don't need to turn the ringer off, now you have to remember to turn it back on, i'd much rather have the option to simply flip a switch that takes nanoseconds instead of relying on events i have to enter or even if they are auto entered

You do use your calendar to keep track of your schedule, no? As long as I marked "busy" (or some other criteria like keywords) in a meeting/event entry, that will do. For adhoc schedule not in calendar, I can just tap a shortcut icon to set the phone to silent for 1, 2, 3 hours or any custom duration. If this is still not enough I can always use the manual method like iphone. :p

Saying "call my wife" is too many steps?????
Saying this out while you are in a meeting or a quiet place will make you look like an idiot. :D

On my S3, from lock screen, I use the "phone" icon to go straight into dialpad, press and hold number for speed dial. Quick and fast - no mess. Or I can put direct dial/sms icons in the notification panel.

I have a folder on desktop containing canned SMSes with predefined receipient and content like "I'm leaving office". I just tap the icon for that canned SMS and the sms is send. How many steps you need to achieve this in Iphone? :p

Negative sir, I do NOT have to open facebook
Are you sure?

So, you arrive at a friends house to pick them up, and your phone knows that you are there to pick up a friend and it's going to text them this? I don't see how that is possible, what if you are just driving past your friends house? Something has to be setup here, much easier to just ask siri to send a text

You do know this is useful for regular routine not adhoc. What you do is you set GPS point(s) or cell tower ID(s) and the text to send (or whatever actions) in the app. You can even set schedules/time frame on when the tracking is turn on. The app runs as a service so it is always on.

I agree, that would be nice to have the option, but then again I really don't want my phone overloaded with options that it becomes cumbersome to use trying to find options to change any little thing
Please dont keep saying about you. As I understand from thread title it really does not seem to be about debating personal preferences.

I'd have to disagree, noone has yet challenged the abilities I posted earlier, they only seem to be finding little tidbits they PERSONALLY find nicer on android

Well, no one will be interested to challenge your personal preferences which most of your points seemed to be. A real challenge would be if you counter my points with something to show Iphone can do even more or better than what my points presented.

I think because we don't need to move big movie video files, there just available to us via itunes, also with hulu/netflix, etc there really isn't as much of a need anymore for wasting space with large video files
How so, I can send files to any device, it hasn't been restrictive for me
I'd much rather save whatever space I can in my phone for this situation, although, if it had FM transmitter capabilites that's another thing although still not a deal breaker for me

these few points are suited to....see above

Nearly all the options of a digital slr camera? You can't be serious? You have obviously not used a DSLR beyond it's auto settings? iphoneography is huge, the camera app is in no way a disgrace
Let me put the challenge to you the other way. Tell me what options are missing from S3 camera app compared to SLR. :p

But you still have to have a DLNA device...I agree having an hdmi cable is a nice backup plan though, you can also use iphone ipad with a keyboard

Oh...then again most mid-to-high tier TV sold in the last couple of years have DLNA embedded. I am not sure but can you use a mouse with iphone/ipad?

We just have differences of opinion here, I love having files of the same extension, and not having to drag drop, and organize manually

With 64GB on my phone and 5GBicloud and itunes match, i still have a ton of storage to spare, glad I don't need to buy memory cards which also have slower transfer speeds than built in storage
Don't forget you can't freely use the space in your iphone and cloud is limited and slow
That's the best part, my internal storage has been more than enough, i use icloud for my backups, and itunes match is not slow at all

Didnt you read my point on "you can't freely use the space in the phone storage"? You can even transfer data (limited to certain type) into the phone storage without Itunes. Iphone is so much-ado-about-nothing. btw: SD card is certainly MUCH faster than cloud - have you ever think that.

Slow? I'm not sure where your finding your info especially since the iphone beats the S3 in speed tests

I am saying slow scrolling not the rest. You like to use benchmark test as a challenge, fine let me counter this with the more realistic real-life-usage test. Look at result of page load (see the S3 without Flash plugin results for fairer comparison). Seems S3 has upper hand.

I'll stick with the iphone here, because I can definitely see the possibility of accidental pickups with an S3, not that this is a huge issue though, i'm sure it doesn't happen often
Are you forgetting, I can turn off the buttons answer/end. Another example (out of many) of what S3 has and Iphone doesnt.

This seems to be more of a pain, because now you have to remember whose got what on what calender and whose go the app you want to use, No Thanks

You are not thinking it thru. :p . Google calendar has color coding if you want to see all the calendar entries together. Or you can show only selected calendar. It is a powerful way to share your calendar with different people.

Wrt to apps, you can share them even if you bought the apps using different accounts. Or you can buy different type/category of apps using separate google a/c. Then you only sync apps from selected a/c to your children phones (leaving out the a/c that have those you-know-what apps ;) ) .

On Iphone/ios sync, all devices are equalized. Sometimes I just dont want stuff (like games) that I used on Ipad to go into my iphone. A bit of a mess with Iphone. It is a all-or-nothing (inflexible)

To be fair, most of the reasons you've listed for getting an iphone, you can easily do on Android. Taking your top 3 for example

iTunes Match - Google Music (25000 songs for free)
Find My Mobile - Find My Phone and 100's of other similar apps
Siri - Google Now

Personally its seems you wasnt that interested in Android and wanted to go with the iphone all along - Thats why I cant be bothered to answer every point.

Agree, not sure why he kept debating when he said he just wanted to know what Android could do. Now it is a bitchfest. Who didnt see that coming?

Find my phone? There is a bunch of those that ive seen.
Not to mention the "Got Ya" app which both phones have in the app store. That one is pretty cool. Takes the thiefs pic and he doesnt now it and sends you an email of his face and location after he incorrectly enters the wrong unlock screen code, pin, swipe or wrong face detection. Whatever it is you use to unlock your lockscreen.

Ok, so let's go ahead and play by my rules. Which includes jailbreaking being allowed (even if it may not be as elegant of a way to do something on android)

Actually no, I didn't include Photostream, Print, Read Later, (Google+, LinkedIn, Tumblr)-these three may depend on the app

Photostream may be propietary, but I can do it, Print/Read later - minor use is your OPINION

Well I guess this round would go to the S3 if you needed subtitles badly, but if we dig deeper the iphone5 has a higher PPI, maybe not by a whole lot but if were doing a comparison the iphone wins here

No, it's just tells that I myself don't like using my phone to edit files, especially since files I normally work with are RAW files in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, not that I would want to, but can the S3 edit RAW files?
see above response.
Can the S3 edit Raw files yes or no? I'm not the only photographer using a smartphone :)

I honestly have only ever needed to copy past the last thing, but is this a feature I might like...absolutely - notice how I concede on some points I agree with (can't say the same about a lot of these android fans posting)

Well the same could be true for android fans, I've received a lot of rebuttals saying that I may be able to do something it isn't as "easy" as on android in their opionion ex. screen captures

I have an app, I choose the song I want and then select a clip I want (not some crappy canned ringtone bought online). Then just plug into itunes and sync, how tedious is that?

Optical zoom, bracketing, shooting in RAW, aperture

so once again, you have to buy a mid-high tier TV, not everyone has purchased a new tv in the past couple years, so it would actually be much easier for someone to just buy a $99 apple TV

We just have differences of opinion here, I love having files of the same extension, and not having to drag drop, and organize manually

We can both post benchmarks all day, but if you are trying to say the iphone is slow, that is just silly

Having the option (push my home button to answer which could lead to accidental pickups) which is not as nice as swipe to unlock which has way less of a chance of accidental pickups seems silly, why would I want more options when those options aren't as nice, are you telling me it's nice to have options even if they aren't as nice?

This seems to be more of a pain, because now you have to remember whose got what on what calender and whose go the app you want to use, No Thanks

I'm not sure why you think it's a bit of a mess on iphone if you don't want an app on it, you simply delete it and if you want it back on just re-install it for free. This also seems to be another instance where it seems much more of a pain in the ass to mess with and few people probably use, but since it is a comparison then I would say this goes to android, unless there is a jailbreak option? :)

It is really disappointing that Android doesn't have anything like Find My iPhone. What do they expect the customers to do when they misplace their phone!?

Big and horrible missing feature.

Wow did you even bother to see if it does?I'm surprised you didn't hear about the guy that traced his note 2 and got his phone back.there is a big thread about it and you can remotely turn GPS on and you can see and hear the person that stole your phone.the app is also installed in the root of the ROM and you can't see it as and even if u do a factory reset you can still use the app to find your cell

Ignorance is bliss but this is a new low, even for here.

Meanwhile my Note 2 with Cerberus will snap a picture/record from the mic on-command even by text, or when the device passcode was entered incorrectly, and do a ton of other things not possible with Find My iPhone. Oh, naturally it lets me find my phone.

Cerberus is a complete anti-theft application, the best protection you can get to recover your misplaced, lost or stolen Android device. This is a free trial for one week, then you can buy a lifetime license for a small price (2.99€) from within the application: no monthly or yearly fees, just a one-time payment. License is associated to your Cerberus account, if you have multiple devices you can use all of them (up to 5) with the same account.
It has three ways to protect your device:
- Remote control through the website www.cerberusapp.com
- Remote control via text messages
- SIM Checker (for devices that have a SIM card): you will automatically receive alerts if someone uses your phone with an unauthorized SIM card
Remote control allows you to perform many operations on your device, like:
- Locate and track it
- Start a loud alarm, even if the device is set to silent mode
- Wipe the internal memory and the SD card
- Hide Cerberus from the app drawer
- Lock the device with a code
- Record audio from the microphone
- Get a list of last calls sent and received
- Get information about network and operator the device is connected to
- And much more!
Cerberus automatically enables GPS if it is off when you try to localize your device (only on Android < 2.3.3) and you can protect it from unauthorized uninstalling - more info in the app configuration.
The app works even if the device does not have an internet connection thanks to remote control by sms messages. Also, the SIM Checker feature allows you to know the new number to send texts to, if the SIM card is changed. Texts received and sent for Cerberus remote control will not start any notification and will not appear in the Messages application.
Cerberus does not drain the battery because there is no background service running: it will activate only if there is a remote control request and will stop afterwards.
More features for rooted devices: complete uninstall protection (a thief will be able to delete Cerberus only by flashing another ROM), GPS auto-enabling even on Android > 2.3.3. More info on the website in the Help section.

Thats superb! I thought you said you used to have a Samsung Galaxy S3? This feature is built in! (www.SamsungDive.com)

Failing that, theres plenty of great apps to find your phone with plenty more features then the iphone offers. Theres even an app which allows you to install it from the desktop AFTER your phone has been lost/stolen!

Edit:

This is a great thread to read of someone that had his Galaxy S3 stolen. He used Samsung Dive and also Dropbox (Offender took photos of his family while still connected to the original owners dropbox account!)- http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=4277199

Unfortunately like most phones, it was taken out of the country so unable to be retrieved. Great read though!

To the three posters above: Samsung added that feature, it's NOT an ANDROID feature.

chris2k5 is right; Android does NOT have a 'find my phone' type feature.

Wait find my phone is part of the operative system and comes intergrated with iOS? Last I saw it was an app you would need to buy and install.

That means that Android doesn't have feature, but it has apps available for it that have that feature.

That's like saying "Yeah the SGS3 has 128GB of storage space" when really what you mean is that it has 64GB built-in and supports up to 64GB MicroSD cards.

The tracking is built into iOS itself, find my iPhone just lets you locate your devices on a map.

Even without find my iPhone installed you can find your phone using a web browser by logging into iCloud.

Rather unfair when the OP allows Jailbreaking and apps as a workaround and then reveals he doesn't have a jail broken phone himself, the two on here are just trying to illicit responses with their childlike observations, the "find my phone comment" and "Billboard 100 using iTunes as its prime source" (still waiting for a link for that one) are prime examples. Time for people to ignore this thread and let it waste away.

Google has built in tracking also with places in Google maps.you go into settings and share location to your friends and you can track your cell that way.

Sounds like sour grapes to me...yawnnn back to work

How does that help you find your own device? Not quite the same if you have to rely on a friend to help you find it.

Log into your gmail acc on a browser and click on maps.bam theres my celly.

And how exactly is it different if you lose an iPhone?do you just yell siri find my cell ?

You are wrong about android not having GPS tracking.Google places is all about your Goole hangout and people in your circle and they can all see where everyone is at.

Unfortunately Google's Android nor the Samsung phones have find my phone integration which makes it harder for people to find their phones. Why can't they just have a system where you can pin point your phone on a map?!

They should've added that instead of NFC which no one uses.

This = Funny

My post was asking what the S3 could do that the iphone5 can't and I allowed jailbreaking. The fact that my iphone is not jailbroken doesn't have anything to do with that.

This is coming from the guy that couldn't handle a debate and "blocked me" like a child who got his favorite toy taken away from him ;)

If you want this thread to go away so badly, maybe you should see your way out of it?

It's not. There is not find my phone on the S3. TouchWiz nor Android Jellybean has it which makes it a big disadvantage. You can scour the menu settings all you want.

You're wrong about this.

S3 has a find my phone feature called "Samsung Dive"

It worked on my S3; not sure if it worked on the S2 or not, as I didn't know about it back then.
