I love how he thinks the iphone 5 wins for playing movies because it has higher dpi but LOWER resolution compared to the g3s and the movies are cropped to fit the iphone screen res.

op whats better a movie in 1280×720 or that movie converted to 1136x640 to fit the iphone screen.

This is the first time I have ever heard someone use dpi over resolution for watching an hd movie...well not really hd on the iphone since it needs to be scaled down lol

so op would you rather download a movie in true 1280x720 or 1136x640 ?

while we are comparing the movie watching part of the phone you might aswell add a few points to the gs3 for having hdmi out so you can actually watch those movies on a tv :)

Huh?

I dont care which phone it is, i just dont prefer glass on the back of my phone that can break easily. I almost got a N4 and if not for it being hard to get i might have but then i started thinking about that glass back and it bothered me about it. Between that and wanting more Memory space i decided against it.

I was agreeing with you.

You can like Android like we both do with or without disliking a glass back.

What I was getting at is its annoying when people tell me I hated the 4/4S design simply because I like Android because now Android has a phone with a glass back.

Sorry for the confusion.

Am I the only person who feels that the quality of Android apps has suddenly risen?

More than ever I'm finding that apps are slicker than their iOS counterparts!

Photostream may be propietary, but I can do it, Print/Read later - minor use is your OPINION
Fine. Just add photostream, print and read later as share to IOS (note: last two also possible with S3). So my original point is still valid i.e. limited in iOS. iOS can do a SUBSET of S3
Sorry, your original statement was in regards to easily sharing content, I've shown you it is easy, and I can easily add more share streams also by adding apps just like you said you could do the same by adding apps on android

I can save my photos, docs, movie projects all to my phone storage
Not save any type of files from the browser. And files in iphone storage are accessible by the owner app only. You cannot copy out files from phone without itunes (or upload to cloud). S3 wins with MORE capabilities and content/file centric model
Sorry, As their are apps for this when jailbreaking, I phone matches this capability

Well I guess this round would go to the S3 if you needed subtitles badly, but if we dig deeper the iphone5 has a higher PPI, maybe not by a whole lot but if were doing a comparison the iphone wins here
Sure. Iphone win with higher PPI. Countering this I give you S3 has higher resolution and bigger screen. :)
A larger screen that you have to try fitting in pockets with over saturated colors and lower brightness level, if what i've researched is correct ;)

Can the S3 edit Raw files yes or no? I'm not the only photographer using a smartphone
Why not? With an app. Was there a "photoshop touch" app recently. I bet this is not the only one
Sorry, photoshop touch cannot edit RAW files

Well the same could be true for android fans, I've received a lot of rebuttals saying that I may be able to do something it isn't as "easy" as on android in their opionion ex. screen captures
I am commenting based on your responses to my post.
some of your responses have matched theirs " I can answer faster without looking or taking off glove." This is a feature comparison, simply post a feature and let's see if the iPhone can do it. If the phone can do it wether it's slower, faster, or limited doesn't matter, you do seem to want to stick to the original rules i keep hearing

The point is I can do it and you wanted to stick by the rules right?
true. But this is a match. the better side (S3) wins
negative, please see above response

You do use your calendar to keep track of your schedule, no? As long as I marked "busy" (or some other criteria like keywords) in a meeting/event entry, that will do. For adhoc schedule not in calendar, I can just tap a shortcut icon to set the phone to silent for 1, 2, 3 hours or any custom duration. If this is still not enough I can always use the manual method like iphone.
Sorry I don't, not everyone does, so should I mark this one as your personal preference?, like I said, I can do this, wether you think it's not as nice as android is personal preference
I can do like iphone (i.e. flipping on/off, limted "do not disturb") as well. But S3 can do MORE. S3 wins
Once again, it's proven the iPhone can do it and then you change your stance to the S3 has more ways to do it, sticking by the rules, iPhone matches yet another supposed android only feature

Talking to your phone makes you look like an idiot? There again that is your opinion.
Maybe I jest too much. But again voice dial is not always usable (i.e. in mtg or noisy place). S3 can do voice dial too. But Iphone can't do this. S3 wins.
I'm starting to get the impression you have never used an iPhone5, you can do voice dial, so i'm sorry, S3 doesn't win

Ok, so I can ask siri to send a txt at a certain location and also have it scheduled (just set one up to text my wife every day when I leave work
Can you do this with Siri. I doubt so. S3 wins (on all automation functionalities)
Yes I just told you I did it with siri

This is a comparison of features not who can do something better, that would be for a new post.
Wrong. Not just about something better but doing something MORE. You are evading here
Not evading following my original rules, does android have a feature that iOS can't perform jailbreaking allowed. Excerpt from my post "Ok, so admittedly I have only played with the S3/android a couple times but constantly hear that there are things that the S3 can do and the iphone cannot. I was hoping some S3 owners could give specific examples of the S3 abilities that the iphone is lacking."

Optical zoom, bracketing, shooting in RAW, aperture
Please read my post PROPERLY. I think I said "nearly all". And it's about camera APP (not hardware). :p
Yes, you did say "nearly all" which is still an incorrect statement. You are showing your lack of knowledge in this post. You then stated "Let me put the challenge to you the other way. Tell me what options are missing from S3 camera app compared to SLR. "
I then answered your statement, I believe you are doing the evading here

so once again, you have to buy a mid-high tier TV, not everyone has purchased a new tv in the past couple years, so it would actually be much easier for someone to just buy a $99 apple TV
What if you have many TVs in your house with DLNA? You buy one box for every TV? Don't forget, you can do same (i.e. airplay) with S3 by buying a AllCast box. S3 once again has more options. S3 wins
That's a big IF, with the economy the way it is, I find it hard to believe a large portion of the population ran out and bought 2-3 flat screens TVs in the past year, and even if they did, you are paying a good $600 or more for a halfway decent set when you could have spent $99 to do the same thing with your older sets. Since apple TV will work with older sets AND the newer sets according to your past rational iPhone wins?

You actually can with various apps or jailbreaking
You can go thru trouble of jailbreak, many of my points are still not possible. S3 wins with stock ROM. Root/custom ROM S3 kills iphone even more
Sorry original post said jailbreaking allowed, doesn't matter if you think it's easier on S3

We can both post benchmarks all day, but if you are trying to say the iphone is slow, that is just silly
You are the one who brought out benchmark first. :p Now you are back pedalling.
Yes I did, and various sites showed that even though the iPhone5 should be slower because it didn't cram in the latest highest end hardware, yet it outperformed the S3 handily

Having the option (push my home button to answer which could lead to accidental pickups) which is not as nice as swipe to unlock which has way less of a chance of accidental pickups seems silly, why would I want more options when those options aren't as nice, are you telling me it's nice to have options even if they aren't as nice?
Just an excuse. I can answer faster without looking or taking off glove. :p And S3 home button is not to press accidentally. Once again more options S3 wins
Well, sorry once again, but there is a jailbreak you can use that allows you to use the volume buttons to answer your phone,S3 does not win

I'm not sure why you think it's a bit of a mess on iphone if you don't want an app on it, you simply delete it and if you want it back on just re-install it for free. This also seems to be another instance where it seems much more of a pain in the ass to mess with and few people probably use, but since it is a comparison then I would say this goes to android, unless there is a jailbreak option?
You know what equalize is? You uninstall from one it is gone from all. That's stupid. I just want different selection on my different devices without paying again. If you like Iphone way, S3 can do the same as well. Once again S3 has MORE options. S3 wins
I'm not sure what you mean here, are you saying if I delete an app off my iPhone it deletes off my iPad, etc? If that's your statement it simply isn't true, I can download and app and it is available to all and yes free for all my other devices

I'd like to add a few benefits to iOS that I posted earlier that noone has responded to:

-ios normally gets apps first, not a huge deal, but it's nice not having to wait.

-ios users are not a prime target of malware (yet). My co-worker just got a virus on her S3 a couple days ago and had to take it in for service

-ios is not as fragmented as android, so most apps will look/perform better on iphone

-ios devices are not loaded with "crapware"

-my text messages not only go to my phone, but to my mac and ipad.

-I love that if my wife takes pics they are automatically shared without her having to do anything, and she gets all my pics, I love shared photostreams where i can choose who gets to see my pics instead of sending them to facebook for everyone to see

-A feature I use all the time is the ability to view tabs that are open in safari on my other apple devices along with the read it later feature

-I also like to DJ, I don't believe the Djay or traktor app are available on android?

Im sorry the gs3 hands down beats the living crap out of the iphone 5 and you can jailbreak it all you want,we gave you the info and your true colors have shown as you are not ever going to use or buy an android phone.

I cant wait to see your thread about the gs4 vs 5s death match thread lol

open source os >locked down os plain and simple and next time you go to best buy and look at a tv make sure to ask the sales guy how many ppi the set has.

Some developers simply put no effort in sharing on iOS IMO.

Goodreader can share to other inbuilt apps on my iPhone. I can move a PDF between adobe reader, goodreader, iBooks, and even open it in Safari as an option.

Goodreader can also directly upload to dropbox in a specific directory that you specify when uploading. It can also sync with a myriad of cloud services.

So the sharing is there, just needs more spotlight and more polishing and improvement from Apple.

Also you can simply connect to wifi, and use any browser on any computer on your network to upload a file to the app without iTunes involved.

So filesharing is there but needs a bit more polish and improvement too. But i can bypass iTunes if i have to.

Just putting this out there.

----------

open source os >locked down os

You are confusing open with open source.

For example, windows is closed source, but open. NOT open source.

Open source is not the requirement for something to be open. It just means you can put it up on the web for anyone to copy and use without any licence.

If open source OS > closed source, then linux would have killed windows by now.

no android is open source as in I am running different drivers for my gpu on my gs3 and using tweaked lte modem firmware along with the fully molested rom I am running :) we have acces to the full kernel of the os

asop from google gives anyone the pure souce code for anyone to do what ever they want with it.That is what makes every android cell different from each other as you can see how many things Samsung has done with it

and when did I ever say windows is open source?last I knew that kernel is more locked down then the pentagon,do you know how bad it would be if windows went open source?

hackers would literally have a field day with the banking system and the stock market.

You first paragraph can apply to windows too, which is not open source. It is more in line with open.

The second paragraph is what i already said...

why would it apply to windows when we are in a thread talking about android vs ios and the gs3 vs the iphone 5 I don't think I mentioned windows in this whole thread.

so let me say it again to be clear

open souce android os > locked down ios

you can bet your iphone that google is working on a pc based open source os also, its actually just about to come out on the pixle.Give that about 3 years and it will be a huge competitor to windows and even windows 8 looks like a tablet os

It was an example, calm down.

Also hackers are already having field days with causing a lot of harm to many financial, government, and corporate databases.

So do you use linux on your desktop?

Why can't i bet my nexus 4?

Also, chrome OS is out for years. It is not just coming out.

Do I really need to answer that lol

ps I know chrome has been out and its not been out for years but its in no way up to par with any true os yet, thats why I sad in about 3 years it should be a real threat to windows, its nothing more than a web browser now and legit you can do more on jellybean android than it

Let me guess, because you actually use windows? :)

Why not be true to your statement and switch to linux mint/fedora/ubuntu/red hat? Because open source is better, you are losing out.

Chrome OS will be nothing more than a web browser in the next three years. It is a web based OS which runs web apps.

Great for casual users, but for us technical and professional software users, it will not crush windows or other desktop OSes anytime soon.

Also i hate being stuck to internet for doing every thing. I know it is in google's best interest to serve me ads for whatever i do, but i already get 1000x the daily dose i require for ads. So no thanks.

Im not sure i see what your point is. You say you want to see what a GS3 OR Android can do that the iP5 cant but it doesnt seem like you are looking for info, just want to debate how you can combat and counter what some have said. To allow jailbreaking is really absurd.

We should be comparing both phones stock because if you allow us to include Rooting , you would seriously be left in the dust. Just being able to run a completely different ROM alone (for which there are several different kinds of them to choose from) that has more features than stock JB does is something the iPhone will never be able to do. Install different modems is another thing you can do and the list is mighty long.

That would be more fair and seeing you say things like "there is a Jailbreak App for that" IMO is ridiculous. As it is , yes a jailbroken phone brings it up to par but still not quite.

And BTW, if you use Samsung devices you can do all that stuff your talking about that you love when reading a book you can go upstairs and use your iPad where you left off or taking a picture and it goes to your Wifes phone, etc...Samsung has AllShare which does the exact same thing and works with your TV as well as is the equivelent to Apples ecosystem....if you choose to share everything you do with others. I do not choose to do that. I like to pick what i send to others.
You can still share things with not using just Samsung devices by using Dropbox and such but it would work the way you discribe if you had Samsung devices.

I really think this thread has run its course and is accomplishing nothing the way it is.

You should title your thread "I can install different modems on my phone, so THERE!"

By the way, I'd also like to note. None of you android users seem to want to touch the android malware problem.

picking and choosing....picking and choosing

Oh I have told you and a lot of others have also but you come back with statements like well the iphone has better ppi so its better then 720p and you can use a 100 dollar device to just stream video and not do full network sharing like a bone stock gs3 can do.

can you hook up a hdmi cable to your iphone 5? NOPE I looked and they said it might come out but nothing yet.

I have no malware on my phone and please tell us all the crapware the gs3 comes with,Im dying to here this one as I use most of the touchwiz stock apps and there really isn't anything that is even remotely considered crapware.

when every we brought up a solid point you would counter with well the gs3 has an over saturated screen and less dpi and its loaded with crapware and malware.

Im done with this thread

and I do have a Ubuntu partition on one of my hds but I admit I never use it and my tweaking days are done on the computer, android fills my needs and I enjoy using windows 7 as my daily driver.

here is a quick list that some others with more time can chime in on

hdmi
true hd format
nfc
open dlna media server
open file system
plays any codec
wifi direct
open os
a back button
micro sd slot that supports the fastest uh1 speeds and file system(most android don't support this)
removable batter
standard micro sim to swap between markets, yes I ran a att sim in my Verizon gs3 etc
standard micro usb plug

and so on

Oh I have told you and a lot of others have also but you come back with statements like well the iphone has better ppi so its better then 720p and you can use a 100 dollar device to just stream video and not do full network sharing like a bone stock gs3 can do.

can you hook up a hdmi cable to your iphone 5? NOPE I looked and they said it might come out but nothing yet.

I have no malware on my phone and please tell us all the crapware the gs3 comes with,Im dying to here this one as I use most of the touchwiz stock apps and there really isn't anything that is even remotely considered crapware.

I don't believe carrying HDMI cables is a benefit, call me crazy i guess.

My statement of a $99 device vs buying a set with dlna is not a valid statement?

You do acknowledge there is a malware issue, just because you haven't caught anything yet?

The screen issue was changing after every comment, the quality of watching a movie on an S3 and iphone5 is great in their own respects. Wether you believe DPI, Color saturation, screen size, or brightness is a key factor is a matter of opinion and not a so called SOLID POINT

But I guess you are done, but i'm sure you'll be back.

Well thanks for finally admitting that your "open source > closed source" argument was just a placeholder.

----------

open file system
plays any codec
wifi direct
standard micro usb plug

Very valid points. Things i absolutely miss from GS3.

there is no no admitting to anything my friend you are the one that brought up the open windows into this,I have no need to mess with the windows kernel and I do use Linux and have lots of fun in the past with it,it has nothing to do with android as what I do on android is not limited by my computer os I use.

I also have 2 playstaion 3s one that is on the latest firmware to play games and the other that is modded to hell and back running a custom linus kernel and os

And, he wasn't done ;)

hdmi - A link was just provided above we can use hdmi cables
true hd format Sorry I don't know the specifics on this issue, but I do believe this is a matter of opinion, i'd rather watch a movie on a screen with more accurate a color depiction and brightness level rather than possibly losing a fraction of "true HD" quality
nfc - Yes, iphone does not have NFC
open dlna media server - you need dlna devices
open file system - there's an app for that (as stated before)
plays any codec - Another valid fact, but I can convert if i needed to
wifi direct - bump
open os - safe and secure "closed" system i.e.: doesnt have the massive malware issue android has
a back button - home button
micro sd slot that supports the fastest uh1 speeds and file system(most android don't support this) - Built in memory without having to buy more memory cards and have a larger phone in order to have space for this
removable batterdon't have to buy spare batteries or carry around spare batteries
standard micro sim to swap between markets, yes I ran a att sim in my Verizon gs3 etcI'm not positive, but I believe you can use the iphone5 on at&t and verizon
standard micro usb plug cable that is programmable, and can be inserted in either direction

No it was just about you saying things like open source > closed source implying anything closed source is worse than open source.

And then i am showing how android is the only open source OS doing a fine job so far, when it comes to desktop apparently no one cares about open source. I would say a normal guy doesn't even care about open source in mobile space. Just open. I was just pointing out the difference between the two.

I don't care if my OS is open source, but i would definitely like it to be open. Those two are different.

cayou not see your biased answers that you wrote

you just compared wifi direct to bump Im done lol

can you bump a movie you just downloaded off a torrent to another iphone using bump lol

wifi direct is a very fast data transfer protocol that will let you send ANY file on your phone to another android device and you do not have an open file system, not even close
