"no android is open source as in I am running different drivers for my gpu on my gs3 and using tweaked lte modem firmware along with the fully molested rom I am running we have acces to the full kernel of the os"

But wait.. This doesn't sound good.

Miui screwed up my gs3 so bad a few months ago.I won't chance ever running that ROM again.it wrote over my modem and GPS and put my cell in a hard roaming lock and was trying to use towers from Japan and wrote out all the baseband info for our lte we use for Verizon.

It took me like 4 hours of legit programing and I almost tossed the phone.no reset or Odin would fix it and I flashed modem firmwares and everything.

I had to go in and manually rewrite the hex with a hex editor and force write certain parts of the modem.it was a complete nightmare lol

To answer your question right now I'm on stock ota rooted touchwiz with just a few tweaks as I like the stock ROM a lot.

Even more then pure asop

The ROM I tried running was never made for my phone and that's the fun about android.he asked me*if I was running a specific ROM and I told him that at the time I tried it it was a horrible port and fed my cell

I litterally flashed 3 ROMs on my gs3 in the past 2 days.right now I'm back to stock rooted and tweaked touchwiz with latest leaked modems from verizon

Been there, done that.

Spent so much time trying to tweak my phone to absolute perfection and not enough time actually enjoying it.

And your reasons for that are?

For me it comes down to integration, the greatness of controlling both hardware and software, with a wealth of content available. You will see more and companies adopt the Apple way of doing business because it works. They all want their own ecosystems.

Examples: Microsoft-Surface, Samsung-Tizen, and Google-Moto.

Whilst I agree, I wish Apple would support more widely used technologies instead of just proprietary ones.

Apples build and software quality combined with things like DLNA would make one awesome product :)

Its possible that they will in the future, but I really believe that the control over both is what gives such a great cohesive experience.

While I agree with this, it's amazing to think Samsung has gotten to a point where their phone from last May still holds its own against Apple's most recent iPhone from September. As much as I like the iPhone, I'm still excited to see what Samsung brings with the GS4. (sorry, OP, for getting a bit off topic).

I'm not surprised. Samsung is one of the few companies that can do it all themselves. They manufacture and develop

  • Integrated circuits
  • LCD panels
  • Microprocessors

and much much more. They do it all under one roof. It's a competitive advantage.

The same applies to Samsung as they create the handset and Touchwiz. My S3 integrates with all my media devices in my house and theres never been an app ive wanted or needed that hasnt been available.

Not to sure about your business statement, any link to back that up?

Unfortunalty, I think the day of Apple being topdog are long gone now.

cayou not see your biased answers that you wrote

you just compared wifi direct to bump Im done lol

can you bump a movie you just downloaded off a torrent to another iphone using bump lol

wifi direct is a very fast data transfer protocol that will let you send ANY file on your phone to another android device and you do not have an open file system, not even close

The key issue there is that bump involves uploading and downloading to and from a server where as wifi direct is...well, direct, and takes a fraction of the time

S-beam is brilliant btw

Touchwiz isn't that great. The S3 lags more between switching apps/hitting the button to switch apps than the HTC Incredible from 2010 does. Software design, Samsung should stop touching Android.

I gave you examples of companies adopting Apple's stance in some areas. Please look it up.

Thread In A Nutshell - OP is so sucked into Apple's ecosystem he is blind to anything else around him.

Stock Android >= Jailbroken iOS
Rooted Android >>>>>> Jailbroken iOS

Do you need that in simpler terms? I apologize, it just doesn't get any simpler than that.

You keep bringing up 'this can be done with a jailbreak' but seem to be completely ignoring the fact that root exists. Which, allow me to educate you, is just about a thousand times simpler than jailbreaking and yet, does a thousand times more. Root will always be available for any Android device at the time of the phone's release, and even before in some cases. Thanks to the amazing developer community, of course. How long did the last iOS jailbreak take for the new iPhone/iPad?

And you dare to bring up malware in Android. I would love to see you give one example of sort of major malware affecting anybody on Android. Malware is and was never an issue in Android.

I refuse to feed the troll anymore than I just have...

Well said. Like you said malware is not an Android issue, it is a user issue.

Like I've said before, if you don't like the rules I based this post on, simply don't post or create your own. No need to get so upset and resort to childish name calling :)

You don't get to make any rules; sorry to inform you. You don't own this forum. You are not granted any kind of "rights" by creating a thread--especially one as ridiculous as this one is.

The fact that you think starting a thread gives you some sort of "right" to your own stupid rules is more telling than the absurdity of this thread.

Not that I saw.

Really? Wow. I will list them again for you, its clearly in one of my previous posts.

Examples: Microsoft-Surface, Samsung-Tizen, Google-Moto, and I am sure that the list goes on. Ultimately these companies want to be more in control, as this model presents a lot more profits. There are links all over that let you know that in the mobile space Apple may not have as much of the marketshare but they dwarf the others in profit share somewhere around 70%. Thanks for playing!

Oh Mikey, why so serious? It's very amusing you find this thread absurd yet you are still here.

Do you have more earth shattering input for me? Thanks for letting me know I don't own this forum...I had it up for sale on ebay. Luckily no bids or I would have been in BIG TROUBLE! :p

Sorry, your original statement was in regards to easily sharing content, I've shown you it is easy, and I can easily add more share streams also by adding apps just like you said you could do the same by adding apps on android

Sorry, As their are apps for this when jailbreaking, I phone matches this capability

some of your responses have matched theirs " I can answer faster without looking or taking off glove." This is a feature comparison, simply post a feature and let's see if the iPhone can do it. If the phone can do it wether it's slower, faster, or limited doesn't matter, you do seem to want to stick to the original rules i keep hearing

etc etc ...snipped

Sure Iphone5 can do some of the stuff that S3 can do with jailbreaking and workarounds. A physically challenged person (aka Iphone5) can finish a tri-athlon as well provided that this person has the use of special apparatus like floating device/harness/oxygen tank etc. Of course the person will finish the event when the cows come home.

Even if you can jailbreak the iphone5 that is just a small consolation for now. Apple has crushed the jailbreak with new v6.1.3 update. So jailbreak may be gone for a long time before the next one comes long. Jailbreaking is like creating a Frankenstein monster. You replace (or append) parts to the body to make it work better (i.e. dynamically inject code in the DLL via "mobile substrate"). This is usually not reliable. Run two or more cydia apps that inject code to the springboard (like Intelliscreen etc) will most likely cause instability. And it cause heavier battery use because you need backgrounder to make the apps to stay in the background. And at times backgrounded apps gets unloaded because of low RAM and you have to restart them again. Quite a lot of hassles to get the capabilities which are built-in to the framework of S3.

You can try to confuse people with your whatever rules about this comparsion match but ultimately it is still a functionality challenged iphone5 vs full-featured smarphone S3 in a race. If you are happy with the iphone5 so be it.

Oh yeah, great point on waiting for a jailbreak. I should've mentioned that. That's another thing that annoys the living $%#& out of me about Apple. I love their hardware (although I'd be in the camp that wants a bigger screen), but their software is so darn locked down and even once a jailbreak is available (which is becoming more and more rare), you have to be so careful. One installation of a bad app or tweak that causes a restore and you're probably out of luck being able to jailbreak again. I see that 6.1.3 is now in beta and closes at least 1 of the 5 Evasi0n exploits, rendering it useless going forward. Great...so Apple is locking it down again.

That's another major difference between Android and iOS. If I screw something up after rooting my S3, I have options (imagine that). I can either restore the phone from a previous backup right from the external SD card, I can flash a new ROM either directly from the handset or using adb, or I can just start fresh. Heck, I don't think I've used actual OTA's to upgrade any of my phones lately. I usually just grab the pre-rooted zip from XDA and flash it. Nothing gets erased from my phone and I'm now up and running the newest firmware WITH root!

You don't see Samsung out there trying to crack down on rooting (in fact, they're pretty helpful about it).

And another great point about being able to get rooted apps and tweaks directly from the Play Store. I hate having to use Cydia.

How everyone, I have a galaxy s3 hence my name. I have owned this phone for approximately 1 year. During my earliest stages of learning about the phone, I realized how much better than an iPhone it truly was. Anything and iPhone could do my galaxy s3 could do faster and better. Then the fun began, I rooted my phone approximately 6 months ago. This is what a smartphone should be. I have 100 control over my phone, not 99 but 100 percent. My friends have nicknamed my galaxy S3, the iPhone killer. By the way, any apps that cost money, I don't have to pay for because of the different app stores available to rooted Android users. At this rate, I may not even move up to the S5 when it comes out.
