Why do you assume anyone had to pay for more GBs? I've never had to do that, and I've been using iCloud backups for years. (My phone's current backup size is 1GB.)

Why do you assume anyone had to pay for more GBs? I've never had to do that, and I've been using iCloud backups for years. (My phone's current backup size is 1GB.)
Because I do expect the majority of iCloud users do get more than the 5gb-free option. (I should Google that...)
I just backup my contacts and date book.
stumbled upon this after trying everything. Read through all pages at estimated time being 8 hours. Nothing worked. Restarted my phone and it's at 2 hours. It's a start! Let's see what happens after I post this response
started reading this thread after becoming absolutely enraged with the lack of answers I was getting....half way through page 4 and bam....9 hours remaining....now 8...WHAT IS THIS MAGIC??? Been trying to update to 10.3 for hours now. It either gets stuck on "Verifying update" when I'm trying to install it OTA (over wifi) - Or during the backup process on iTunes.
Now I got an error on iTunes that says, "This iPhone could not be updated. An unknown error occurred. (4000)"

You could go the long way home and make a backup, erase all content, connect to iTunes and it will update to 10.3 and then restore from backup.Been trying to update to 10.3 for hours now. Need any help I can get. Took me all night to back up my old phone and ive been trying all morning to restore the new one. It makes it to the same spot and stops. 32 minutes...1 hour...2 hours...16...17...18...19 hours. Im about the throw this phone thru a wall. Fingers crossed the voodoo makes its way over here.

I bum upon this thread via google search, trying to find the end of my backup restoring frustration. Started the reading and I was like cmon guys kidding me??? Than I initiated the restore once more and started to read post by post of this thread and after a few ones read, i looked at itunes and it seriously moved!! Not seen something like this in my life!

THE MAGIC IS REAL.
I just now made an account on here, solely to say that whatever juju this thread has, it is very, very real. Read through a good portion of it, clicked back to iTunes, and VOILA! My iPhone is restoring! I literally said "what the F%$&?!" out loud when I saw it. Unreal.

Magic worked and it changed from estimating to 7 minutes, but did not move for several minutes so I restarted the process, and now it remained at estimating again and seems like the magic doesn't work anymore. Please let it work I am going abroad tomorrow and cannot go without a working phone!!!
Alright it worked! After I commented I went to chat with apple support while starting the backup again and it was done in five minutes! Thanks for whatever it is (the magic)~
Been stalling at "less than 1 minute" for a few days. After reading 14 pages of crazy talk this afternoon nothing changed. Decided to reboot and try one more time before switching to android. Tried again and it worked within 2 minutes. FIXED!! THE MAGIC IS REAL!! WHAT AN EMOTIONAL ROLLER COASTER. THANKS!!
Hoping for a miracle. Phone was acting buggy. Tried to do a backup and then next an update on my phone with only the luck of time remaining and not an actual successful backup and then update. Wish me luck on this magic! I tend to have bad luck with phones it seems As I am usually always that exception as well, but still hopeful. I read the whole thread!

A little bit of luck... After days of waiting, trying again, resetting, all I've had is 'estimating time remaining'. Even checking the progress throughout reading this entire thread didn't change it. The minute I read the last post; 7hours remaining. (That may not seem great to you but it's progress!) Just made an account on here to try and speed up the magic... Fingers crossed...

I am stuck and hoping for some magic. My time remaining continues to increase, up to 3 hours after starting the restore an hour ago. Fingers crossed
