For a complex scene like this, I think portrait mode did very well, much better than I could have done manually blurring out sections using my finger in a Bokeh app.

Just received my 7 plus today and am loving it.

Happy with portrait mode so far, but would love to see a bit more work done into the actual blur itself. It's a bit too consistent for me, compared to what real bokeh looks like. Would it be possible for Apple to tweak it to produce more natural looking blur?

I'm sure they plan too but I agree the lack of a consistent look in the out of focus areas makes it a bit of an odd man out feature at present. It does just ok on planular and near cut out compositions of front to back. But throw in another axis of elements anywhere in the scene and it looks pretty bad, like colorful mold growing on extremities of the subject, lol!

I'm going to pass on using it until it is much better, it's just nowhere near as organic as a real optical effect.

Yeah its definitely a bit jarring to someone that knows what real bokeh is supposed to look like, almost in the "uncanny valley" category. However its definitely still useful and fun, just would like to see more effort put into the actual blurring effect. Once they polish it up, its going to be great. Definitely a good sign for the future of mobile photography.

[doublepost=1477620066][/doublepost]Portrait mode is still in beta, but it sure adds a lot of character to my photos. I really like it despite the many negative things said about it. Portrait mode handles this scene well.
