Have you rebooted? Have you synced to iTunes lately? Have you checked what app is on the most? Have you checked location services? Have you disabled the settings that you don't need? Have you set location services to while i'm using for each app? Have you had Apple do a diagnostic? Google and this forum is your friend.

Done all that mate, optimised it as much as I can do.

Will get onto Apple if it doesn't improve now I've done a fresh reinstall via iTunes. But it does seem from a bit of research that the 8's battery life just isn't that good. I'd get the Plus but it is too big, the X apparently is good so I might swap to that.

Nope, and some of his claimed sot is background activity so isnt really getting a true sot. The only way to do that on an iPhone is to go from 100-0 in a single sitting.

I meant to say usage since last full charge was getting over 8hrs. Standby was a different number.

I know the 7 series have unexpectedly bad battery life, but the 8s are meant to be quite a bit better in this regard - what are you comparing to as a baseline?

I always get to end of the day with iPhone 7 and 8. Usually sto background loading from trash apps like Facebook, Instagram. Also check if an app is using GPS 100% of the time.

Why does the 7 series have unexpectedly bad battery life?
Of the 4 phones produced with the general 6 design, the 7 has the joint worst battery life, despite having the largest size battery of them, and a chip specifically designed to be more power efficient (having the two pairs of cores, one of which are specifically for low intensity use).

Battery size:
1,821mAh - iPhone 8
1,960mAh - iPhone 7
1,715mAh - iPhone 6s
1,810mAh - iPhone 6

Battery endurance (from GSMarena*):
66h - iPhone 8
62h - iPhone 6s
61h - iPhone 6 & 7

*This is assuming a baseline of 1h talk time, 1hr web browsing and 1h video playback per day, you can adjust to a more realistic use case on their website, but as this is just for relative purposes it works well.

4 hours and 61% lol, how long do you want it to last? Look up occasionally :)

The whole day would be great, which it doesn't. It dies by 4PM, which is useless for me.

If this is normal, then that's absolutely fine - but I will need to find an alternative which does last me, because this phone isn't suitable for my usage.

That’s normal. 10% per hour.

Thanks mate, sadly that isn't going to cut it for me!

Try a plus model, it’s night and day - the primary reason I put up with the bulk of the plus size (the extra screen size and sharper resolution are also nice, but something I could probably live without for something that goes everywhere)

Thanks mate. I will look into it - my understanding is the X is much better as well?

It's such a shame as I really think Apple could do a lot better here. The Pixel 2 for instance lasts me all day.

X should be 20% better tops.

I’ve heard mixed reports for the X, some say near-plus battery life, others are saying not a lot better than standard iPhone battery life. I think it’s a lot worse for browsing intensive use due to the oled sucking power when displaying light colours for prolonged periods.

Yeah it’s been something iPhones have struggled with, but then the pixels have a lot more volume to fill with battery - and they do with a 2,700mAh one vs the iPhone 8s 1,821mAh, the price for being more compact I guess?

Thanks mate. Such a shame as I really don't want to use Android!

Might have to get me a Plus.

For real world usage, perhaps:

8 = A hrs

X = 20% plus A hours

Plus = 40% plus A hours

Yep the X is not that good imo, you are correct with the browsing.

Might have to get me a Plus.

It's the only iPhone with great battery, the X isn't much better than the 8 for the above reason, i have had both.

And FID is a dogs breath :)

It’s a guess though. :)
[doublepost=1527499650][/doublepost]Run a GeekBench 4 battery test. A partial one with screen dimming. I’ll run one on my X and you can then compare.

Okay mate brilliant idea.

Can somebody do the same on their 8 to see if my battery is performing normally?

I am literally getting nowhere close to that...and definitely didn't get that on the SE either.

7-8 hours of continuous usage? As in SOT? I can't believe that, sorry.
Agreed. His post suggests 9-12 hours for the 8plus which is utter nonsense; I triallled it for 3 days and got about 6.5 hrs general usage.
